Did you do your first oil change service at 1,000 miles? (Which I would highly recommend with any brand new car)

 

Last I checked, most new cars ship with special lubricants that are designed to help break in the engine, swapping out that oil at 1000 miles would be dangerous.

With that said, I looked in the manual to see when the first recommended oil change is, but couldn't find anything (I imagine Alfa wants you to do it when the car tells you to).

 

I will be doing my 2500 miles. While 1,000 miles its a good idea I feel like I didn't break the engine in 100% yet and wanted to wait bit more. I know what you are saying though. May have oil sent into blackstone labs for analysis as well.

 

Greetings! A quick question, I stopped by the local dealer yesterday to take a look at their Giulia inventory and after popping the hood on one I had difficulty locating the dipstick ... the salesman couldn't seem to locate it as well... it may just be a matter of my aging eyes, but where in the engine bay is the dipstick? Thanks!

 

Right underneath the oil cap, that yellow piece.

 

Oh, I forgot you have the Q .... I was researching the Ti and for the life of me could not find the dipstick. I just hope that AR didn't follow the BMW school of thinking on this model and only allow owners to check oil level via the interior digital info system. I guess I'm just old school in many ways, (owned a 2000 GTV in college), and want the convenience of having a manual method of checking oil levels. Thanks!

 

The Ti does not have a dip stick. I have a BMW 135 that I have had since 2011 without a dipstick as well. It took me a while, maybe 6 months, to get comfortable with the lack of it, but once I did I actually really like being able to do it at the push of a button. Saves the mess and on some of my cars, when the oil is clean, it can be a challenge to read the dipstick accurately. The only down side I see, is when you change the oil yourself, it can be a hassle to fine tune the level with the electronic version.

 

I believe the 4 cylinder cars do not have a dipstick :crying:

 

I can understand them not putting in a transmission dipstick but an oil dipstick? I thought that was an absolute in things they included ?

 

Also it currently takes 2 weeks+ to get oil filter so fwiw plan ahead.

Got a Giulia Q4. Rosso Red. 3,500 miles in 5 weeks. No issues. Although I was reluctant to get an automatic (I am hard core manual transmission guy), I have to admit this 8 speed automatic with paddle shifter is incredible. Awesome car. My last Alfa was a 164S. This is quite an improvement.


Question: The car comes with Pennzoil Euro 0W30 motor oil. Anyone knows where we get this oil in the US? Listed by Pennzoil in the web page, but unable to find locally. Thanks

 

Your Alfa dealer, hard pressed to find it anywhere else. I had a 2015 Viper ACR last year and only the Dodge dealer had it.

 

I apologize if this is a silly question, but I have to ask anyway: How do you check the engine oil level in a Giulia ? (not the QV)


The owners manual is not clear. I understand once the engine is running at normal temperature and on a flat surface, one should turn the engine off off, wait a few minutes and then check the level by pushing the start button without starting the engine. Is this the correct process?


The owners manual seems to indicate that the level should be checked with the engine running.


Can someone clarify this for me? Thanks in advance.

Not so silly....actually have been wondering about this myself. The way I read the manual you'd check the oil level with the engine warmed & idling, but would like confirmation that's intended.

 

Good question. Not clear to me either.
My understanding was that you check the level with the engine off, not running. Am I mistaken?

I paid 75$ bucks at the dealership. They used 5w30 full synthetic. "That's what the computer says..."

 

This is my worry about buying a fine performance Italian automobile from the same place they sell Jeep and Dodge.

 

For what its worth, the screen on my Ti looks different. It has a bar with two lines through it. My bar goes up to the second line.

 

Yeah, mine's as you described. At one point mine was a 'notch/bar' down at the red arrow. With that spacing, I assumed that there are 6 notches/bars. But it appears the Bar 1 (far left) and Bar 6 (far right) are the 'red zones' - too low and too high I assume.

 

As jkoval gave the DIY oil change, engine running. I just did it yesterday myself (biggest hassle is the bottom cover). Manual says run engine for 5 minutes on level ground, turn off and then run again for 5 minutes to get the reading. BIG Warning DO NOT OVER FILL. Also you can not reset the oil counter.

I have a Ti and that's what mine shows right now, but there's no indication of just how much oil that actually is. Is that a quart low? How can you you tell how much to put in?

 

Little late on this. If you have a Ti and are down two bars, then you are down approx 17 ounces/1/2 quart (8.5 ounces per bar). I would put in about a cup of oil/8 ounces first and then about 4 ounces at a time maybe every hour or so until the oil level is back up to 6 bars. Suggest you use only Fiat spec oil such as Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0W-30. It is available at Advanced Auto Parts/CarQuest online shipped or pickup at local store.

 

I read in the Qv manual somewhere that you are supposed to check the oil level after the oil is warm and the engine has been shut off for about 5 minutes. It is nice to have a dipstick though as well ......
