Hello guys, I have MY21 Giulia which came with broken sunroof ( the right side rail was damaged ) and after long search finally I found a working one on an amazing price as I am too greedy to pay 1k for this s**t at the leader :D Anyway, I did change it myself but came across another problem now, the sunshade jumped out of its place as I loose some bolts on it in order to reach all bolts for the rail and now I can not put it back as it was I mean there is some simple mechanism that roll over the sunshade while opening but something is wrong there as it stay very loose once its closed and when I open it wont roll as its supposed to but instead it goes everywhere. Does anyone of you crack open this thing and know how exactly the mechanism works and what might be broken/missing from mine? Please dont send me to the dealer as the car is US import and it does not have warranty :(

My sunshade and sunroof had quit working a few weeks back. Both were stuck closed. I have the manual for my 2018 but found the reset instructions not very clear. I searched these forums but the information I originally found was for sun roofs that are stuck open. I then did a google search which took me to the Stelvio forums. One post there identified my problem. I had kept the sunshade open until the day I closed it and it got stuck closed. I had held the button down when I closed it. I should have pressed and released. The same thread had much clearer instructions on how to reset the sunroof.

Today I searched these forums using a slightly different search phrase and found this thread. On page 2 there is clear instructions for the reset. This procedure worked and now my sunroof and sunshade work again.

Lessson learned - press and release and let the sun roof do its thing.
This is my issue too! You say you found the correct procedure to reset it but I have no clue which ones you're referring to. Any help is much appreciated. Mine is a 2018 Giulia Q2 Ti Sport. Thanks!

The initialization process in the manual is poorly written and confusing. You can find it at page 53. It mentions pressing the "open/close" button, which actually is two buttons - open and close. The manual doesn't specify which to push. But with help from this forum, I was able to get it to work. Here's a clearer version of what worked for me. If it doesn't work the first time, start the entire process over again by shutting off the engine.
1. With the engine running, press the close button (passenger side) on the sunroof even if it is closed already.
2. Turn the engine off.
3. Wait a few seconds, then restart the engine.
4. Press and hold the close button for at least 10 seconds and you will hopefully here the sunroof motor start clicking.
5. Release the button (the manual does not include this instruction).
6. Within 5 seconds, press and hold the close button again. The roof should start to open. DO NOT RELEASE THE BUTTON until the roof completely opens and then closes again (the manual also does not include this instruction).

I found the 3 key tips for how to make this work in this thread (using the close button, releasing the button and holding the button down).
Thanks to @CEGIZIO for posting.
Sorry to bug about this more but will this work on the 2018s or just 2017s? Thanks!

It applies to all years. Whether it will or will not resolve the issue you are having also applies to all years. You won’t know until you try.

So if Alfa alienated all "must have sunroof" buyers, but raised their reliability rating substantially by eliminating the problematic sunroof option entirely, would they have an increase in sales?

My 2018 yo went almost 80k miles before the sunroof shit the bed. Initial estimate was 2k to fix. Supposedly Alfa came up with a new fix for 1/2 that but my nephew totaled it before I could find out. Picking up a 2019 same colour sme trim with 15k miles and a 5 year warranty. Hopefully it will outlast me! Haven’t driven a 2019. Main difference I think is no electric shocks on the new one. Looking forward to finding out!

I have a good extended Mopar warranty on my 2018. My fear is the sunroof crapping out a day after it ends.

I used mine a lot and it lasted until last summer. I’m not sure if there are signs it’s failing. Mine opened fine and then wouldn’t close. Just made a grinding noise

The reset was the first thing I tried, and the first thing the dealership tried. No luck though.
Thanks guys for this thread . I have 2019 guiia ti. It sunroof button #1 that does not work anymore all of sudden. Sunroof button # 2 starting get stuck open. Did try the reset tick from this post. It worked only once. Got it close before the rain. There is no place in New Orleans to get the roof checked out. Starting to hate this care. I should have kept my Saab!

Do you have a MaxCare extended warranty? Before you got it closed the last time was one side at the rear of the glass not closing? I’m in Biloxi and it’s a drive but if it’s something the local Dodge/Jeep dealer doesn’t want to mess with I’ve had great luck with the Alfa dealer (Umansky) in Memphis.

The sunroof on my 2018 had a similar malfunction however having had a slob in the past, trust me, you are better off with the alpha. The electronics in the shop gave me all kinds of nightmares. To impossible to find the cars aren’t made anymore and there is a certain field to the alpha that you won’t find anywhere else. My 2019 TI sport is a whole lot more fun to drive than a 2010 Porsche panamera s and cost less than half
