GAPF!.
No different to my wife's Audi A3. It cuts out before you have come to a complete stop. Steering and brakes are hard to operate.
Not sure if this can be rectified, i will inquire at the 1st service but it is a little off putting and could also be a little dangerous.
I have posted this because if anything doesn't operate 100% on an Alfa it becomes such a big issue however if it happens to most other car brands its acceptable.

@Italcars, sorry to change topic but I just saw you have a Bora. Very cool car! My Dad had a 1970 Ghibli spider that he bought new at the factory. The sound was magnificent. Every drive was a special event, even as a passenger. I imagine the Bora is similar.

Verrilli.
The Bora is a great car to drive but i have had it off the road for almost 4 years doing a complete restoration. Finally got some color on it last week.

Cool color. I know Maserati had some interesting choices. Good luck with your project!

When I was younger, probably 8 or 9 years old, there was a red Bora at my local scrapyard of which the owner kept for himself...along with many other interesting cars. Wish I took a picture, such a cool car

I just picked up a Ford Escape company car to use for a while - it also has auto start/stop that defaults back to on every time you start it.
You can disable it, but it comes right back on as well.
BMW may be one of the few that allow you to keep your last setting.

I do enjoy that Alfa (for now) allows you to manipulate all the setting in the infotainment/GPS even when you are moving.
Most all cars lock you (or your passenger) out as soon as you start rolling.

you could add this relay

to bring pin 8 to ground.

Hey MacGeek what if pin 8 is wired to ground or does it have to be momentary after car is booted up?
Pin #8 to ground does not disengage s/s feature.
what it does, is throw a fault message to center cluster A!(yellow).
I guess s/s doesn't work anymore after that, but not sure that is the right way.

I noticed that pin#9 has +12v and once I hit the button and little light comes on: pin#9 =0v

ok. i figured out how to keep this system off every time without having to push the button. i accidently left the passenger's side of the hood unlatched when closing it yesterday. i didnt realize it til this afternoon. the whole time it was unlatched, the stop start unavailable message appeared on my cluster and the start stop never came on. mid day today i realized it was unlatched and pushed it down. after that the start stop started working again. tested my theory in a parking lot and i was right. having one side of he hood unlatched disables the system. i'm not suggesting that you drive around with your hood unlatched but im sure the switch on the latch can be either unplugged or grounded depending on how the circuit works. as long as you dont mind the warning message coming on every time you drive the car, this should work.

How did you ground pin #8? MacGeek already said that making the system think the switch is held on will throw an error.

Some steering wheel switch clusters use a shared wire with the various switches engaging different value resistors to a common lead. The control unit can measure the resistance on the lead to determine what switch was activated. Since the SS disable switch is in a switch cluster for the headlights, perhaps it too uses resistors? An ohmmeter used to probe the switch should be sufficient to make a determination.

Not sure if that will affect your car alarm .....

An Arduino or some programmable chip would take care of that delayed grounding.
For now I'll just keep pushing the button, and wait till it can be disabled via software ;) . I'm sure that will happen, it was the same for the giulietta. Originally that was the same principle, later there was an update where the status of start/stop was remembered. In addition you could permanently disable it via setting, using f.i. a tool like "MultiEcuScan", http://www.multiecuscan.net/Default.aspx

or via dealer tools like Examiner / Witech

Hope so, But I really liked the tool that you shared. Will try this with my ELM-327 to see what I can do with it.

looks lik MultiECUscan supports the Giulia - 2.0 and 2.9L

yes I have multiECUscan, it will reset the oil counter, when I get home next week I'll see about start and stop. I purchased a license and their OBD interface for oil changes in the future after the first free one (still debating if I'll have the dealer do it, when I purchased a oil filter from them they were going to sell me mobil one oil that did not meet specs)

While you are investigating your multiECUscan capabilities, would you take the time to see if it is possible to disable or adjust auto headlight on-off so that it is not turning on the headlights with the slightest provocation?

Hopefully eventually there will be a way to have the start / stop completely off when you start the car without having to press the button.

Thanks

I just picked my QV up last night and was surprised when the car did not turn off when stopped in any mode. Note I am not complaining just surprised.
