Did nothing as i found from another post that the HK’s impedance is at 6 ohms. A 4 ohm speaker might generate faulty code from the amp. Have not yet decided if i want to proceed or not.
I doubt it. It will just change the power output which can benpartiakly compensates by the equalizer. You could also bridge a resistor across it. But I understand the reluctance.

I had 4 x12" in an 89 integra that took up the whole **** area. Rattled the spot welds on the roof loose. Used to wave and rock during playing.

Oh, and the thing with the Giulia is there are several problems:

1) volume. Does the volume get controlled thru factory amp? I suspect so since there's no control on the head itself. You need the factory amp. You cut the factory amp out, you get no volume control.

2)- chimes. Chimes go thru stereo, unfortunately. Means you must amplify those as well- or as some have noted, by having the warning on the dash then it only plays thru the center speaker, BUT that means the center speaker still has sound as well. So, upgrading amps and door speakers ONLY will still have the issue of center speaker. So, deal with very loud chimes, or limit yourself with having ONE stock speaker left on the dash with all that aftermarket gear. Waste of time.

3)- Dash speaker. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I had access to replace the center speaker to at least a 4" I'd bite the bullet and run all speaks up front, and matched center channel, then go aftermarket amplifier. Since I don't know what's in the dash nor do I have any inclination to find out, it has to stay.

4)- Factory sound system actually images better than what most are capable of without spending big $$$. Imaging is excellent, and I find the tonal quality pleasant, doesn't bit your head off like high end (but poorly tuned) components. This sub compliments the factory sound system fairly well and will hit hard enough to make everyone around you hear it. System was obviously designed by people who know what the **** they're doing- cheaply, but they knew what they were doing.

In a perfect world, I'd upgrade every single front end driver, delete the backs, put a custom 12" in the driver's wall where that indent is, and incorporate DSP for 7 channel front and a sub.

But, that costs time and $$$, and there is little gain going full aftermarket, IMHO. Factory sound with a sub is better than what most guys can do with aftermarket gear- without spending a ton and having a pro set it up.
Hi there,

I actually finished installing a JBL 12" active subwoofer yesterday in a Giulia with HK system. I tapped the wires on connector "B" from the AMP. Orange and Orange/Black, Green and Green/Black (so the LR and and RR speakers). I think connector B are the INPUT wires going to the AMP, correct?

It worked but I had the following problems:

1. the SUB seems to be getting a continous audio signal and is always on as soon as the volume is above 1. It plays bass loud. When you switch the volume knob to 0 the SUB stops playing bass.
2. subsequently I disconnected the sub. So "back to stock" for testing. Now I have the issue that the overall volume when playing Bluetooth or Android auto music is very low. At volume 20 the audio is at normal talking volume. (I double checked BT volume level, Audio settings etc.) Second, the stock bass suddenly seems a lot better now?

Do you know what is happening here?

I am thinking of tapping into the SUB AMP output wires Violet and Violet/Black from the A connector to get a signal. It seems that the AMP processes volume as you mentioned.

1. Do you have any suggestions, and do you think tapping into the SUB AMP output wires will over-amplify the signal to the SUB?
2. In the picture I see you using L/R RCA cables. How did you hook them up/tap them exactly? Did you use a high-low converter and/or Line Output Converter?

Thank you guys for any help!

To install my subwoofer I uplugged the connector to the subwoofer (directly at the subwoofer end) and connect 2 wires into the plug that I then ran to the side of the rear parcel shelf then down into the battery compartment where I connected it to a high to low level converter to feed into my subwoofer amp.
The next step is to take the left hand panel out to connect all the other speaker wires to high to low level converter (or DSP with high level inputs). At this point I will move the sub input to this point too.
I don't really want to cut the original loom though. I bought a HK amplifier to butcher it for the connector block, I just need a HK plug now to make a T-harness.

Installed a Rockford Fosgate P300-10 powered subwoofer to my 2020 Giulia this weekend. For input tapped into the subwoofer wires on the powered side of the HK amp in the left rear quarter panel accessed from the trunk.
The wires I used for the signal are on connector A #9 & #20 they are purple and purple with black stripe. At first I tried connector B wires 4,5 and 15,16 LR & RR, but volume control does not work on those and so the sub played a constant level of bass. Using instead the powered sub output from the HK amp is working and bass volume increases/decreases with volume of the radio.
I find the P300-10 subwoofer is more than necessary, it is incredibly loud and to match the level with the stock stereo the gain on the sub is way down.

Yes stryofoam can be modified to make for a bigger amplifier. Technically you could cut out the entire bottom if you wish. There is a lot of space in that area. Few wires and a fuse box is all that fills that space.

As far as cooling not sure on that aspect yet. Will have to wait and see. It is in trunk so probably not much different then elsewhere in the trunk.
The other day when I opened that area and took out the styrofoam shelf, the plastic tub was super hot. I could barely touch it. I don’t think it will be a happy place for an Amp unless you vent it well. Maybe perforate the styrofoam and trunk liner a whole bunch.

I haven’t checked out this thread in a while, but the way you wired it up sounds like the best way to do it. I was afraid the voltage might get too high using the sub output after the amp. I might go back and change my wiring when I have so free time, thanks for the info.

I originally took the feed for my high to low converter from the plug on the side of the amp. It was easier to access it here than remove the side panel for me and worked great.

Your video and the details on plugs and wiring was very helpful, thank you for creating it.

First time post.
I’m glad I stumbled on to this thread and it made it easy to add the supplemental subwoofer on the HK unit.
I added a 10” Kicker with 150w amp. It sounded great but I lost 1/4 of my trunk space. Now debating if I should just replace it with 8” under seat unit (doesn’t fit down there) or keep if secured on the center armrest. Need to keep the arm rest partially open(w/ 8”) to still feel the bass.
Thanks to dontfeedthewriters for the videos and Bainbridge for sharing the issues encountered.

Just out of curiosity, you use a line output converter? I’m thinking of adding one.

I used the Amp’s speaker level input. Connector A , pins 11, 22 and 7,18 front woofers. Both external amp and kicker 8” all in 1 had them. I’ll give this small unit 2 days to acclimate. I was spoiled by the 10” earlier.
So is the consensus to abandon initial suggestion of green and orange wire pairs on connector b?

If so, Bainbridge says connected one + /- pair from connector a while Giuly connected two + / - pairs from connector a.

Is there any difference between wiring up one pair or two from connector a? If only one wire pair from connector a is used, am I correct in assuming that the wiring for the other pair going back to add-on powered sub is just left unattached?
