Ok so check my work...

Stock turbo compressor wheels: 43/56mm
-max power on pump gas 330chp

Focus RS wheels: 50/63mm
-max power on pump around 370chp

Now maybe a company using gt2867 wheels that are: 50/67mm
-max power unknown

Perhaps they are using this...

Our turbo appears to hit it's choke line around 31-32 lbs/hr which is roughly 310-320hp... So I can buy that

Looking at a map of a GT2867 that would be in peak efficiency at our current output (rather than pushed to it's choke limit) and could probably be pushed to 40-45 lbs/hr... so it would no longer be the weakest link in the system.

I suck at predicting spooling rpm though

I also started dig in that topic. I contacted some local hybrid turbo manufacturer company in Poland and they can modify my stock turbo up to GTX2867 Stage 3 I'm curious about this 'X' if there is some change comparing to GT2867:

Stage III Upgrade:
  • journal bearings – so-called ‘360’
  • metalworking of bearing housing
  • metalworking of seal plate
  • metalworking of compressor housing
  • metalworking of turbine housing
  • enlarged turbine wheel
  • enlarged aluminum Custom Compressor Billet Wheel

Everyone is using the gtx now in the past 10 years or whatever its been but i always thought the gtx improvements are pretty much to the compressor housings so im not sure how it helps us but still very interested in your option. What is the cost?

Edit: i guess the wheels are a bit different shape so thats cool...

Have you seen the car-part.com prices on our turbos lately? ugh.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how difficult is the turbo to swap? Does the engine need to be pulled like on a BMW 335i w/N54?
Nope, shouldn't be too bad to pull out after a lot of cursing and bloody knuckles.

Thinking about the design, would there be any benefit to closing off the internal wastegate and going with an external?
Im no turbo expert but the experts who gave me recommendations over the years on audi 1.8 then 2.0l turbos never had to go external with the exception of one project i did and it was purely fir packaging reasons to fit it. Maybe some experts will chime in here.

I don't think you could on our cars due to the manifold design? Where would you route the extra exhaust gases? Plus with the electronic wastegate in theory it stays closed 100% to spool quicker where a vacuum controlled one will open slightly as boost is built up

There's ways to route the wg exit, but it may be really tight, and for potentially little to no benefits. I was only thinking of exhaust gas flow efficiencies exiting the turbo. Having the electronic actuator is definitely a bonus.

Honestly I think it would be easier to port out the wastegate and install a larger flap then tune how/when it opens so that way you can get more exhaust flow through it with the smallest amount of effort. The other option is changes to the turbine design on the exhaust side however that would have a penalty to response time.

what was the cost and who is going to tune it afterwards?

Cost is $1500 Euro. I want to find someone to tune it as well haha. Maybe we could do a group buy?
$1500 is cheap. Is that with a core? Tuner is going to need a dyno, multi-air experience etc. and some time. Not sure how well a jb4 would work but it may be easiest option since you can send them logs and they can adjust. I’m not too familiar wit the capabilities of that.

Isn't Kozak doing the the tune with JB4 on his hybrid setup?

Yeah it works out to $2200 CAD so I would be 100% okay paying that. Apparently thats for them to source a core and build it. They might do the work cheaper if you send them your OEM core but then your car will have a lot of downtime.
