I finally got my software updated!

I spoke with @AlfaRomeoCares and told them I was experiencing 2 bugs, my car play screen going black and my clock format resetting. I also said that the larger back up camera and easy entry seat options were safety issues IMO which further warranted an update.

After getting approval and getting the car back today, I went from version 053 to.... drum roll please.... 056 ☹

No larger backup camera. No easy entry option. I couldn't find any visual differences between 053 and 056, but at least the car play and clock issues seem to be fixed so it's not all negative.

I guess this means that I will never get those features. If a software update only gets me up to 056 when 081 exists, then I don't think I, nor many other owners, will ever have a chance.

It's a shame because I really think that the larger camera is a safety issue for those around you, and the easy they seat is a safety issue for those in the car.

Without change of head unit you can not get past 56 on a 17’....I got 81 but only because they had to replace head unit with latest version, old one simply wouldn't take map updates after SW update....that said while larger camera pic is slightly better it is nothing to lose your sleep about, easy entry function doesnt work on me because I am sure other system components have to be upgraded and updated to make it work

Interesting. Guess it's the same for early MY18 :(

On a side note, I had a DYAC on the title of the thread and I was able to change it. On the old forum, you couldn't (or at least I never could figure out how); great feature!

Let's try not to confuse things.

There are two different software lineages, one for the old ETM hardware (MY17) and one for the new one (MY18-19).

New software versions are not regularly made available to dealers/shops; it only happens occasionally, via service bulletin, to fix specific bugs encountered in the field. In such cases, service bulletins are released at different times in different regions (or they may just be released in specific regions, for region-specific bugs).

At this time, the latest firmware versions made available to dealers/shops are:

Old hardware
EMEA: 002.009.055
NAFTA: 002.009.059

New hardware
EMEA: 085.000.046
NAFTA: 056.000.007

I wonder why they do it like this. Why limit features for NAFTA. But I guess it does mean that there's a chance that they could come.

@AlfaRomeoCares called me today to check up on how my car was with the new springs installed, and I asked them about getting the newer update for the NAFTA market, and they said that are looking into it as multiple people have expressed interest in the larger backup camera and ability to disable the easy entry. There is hope yet!

You can find the SW level of the Infotainment system and Maps under system or settings, can’t remember which and I’m not near my car. Just play around with the Infotainment system and you’ll find them.

Just FYI:
My car was built in late 2017 but with the 2nd gen hardware.

I bought it in June 2018. It was delivered with version 51.
In late 2018 we updated to 56.

Today, another round of updates was performed and I'm on 85.

I'm posting this to proof that it can indeed be updated. (some dealers are a bit stubborn)

I was expecting (and hoping for) such a comment from you :)

On topic:
I've just tried it - without success.
To begin with; my car had "A3" and not "A7" at byte 74.
After changing it to "AB" and executing the proxi-alignment the menu option did indeed show up.
However - every time I changed the option to "On", it would default to "Off" again after a few seconds.
All of that while the easy entry was still working (as before).

So in summary: functionality was unchanged, but I enabled a useless option :)

I'm in the process of returning everything back to normal right now.

After several updates the system cross lane departure warning now have this sound
In my opinion more cool

Hey @ratix,
If you cant give us the exact procedure for the H cars, can you at least show us a screenshot of your "Ctrl+Alt+C" screen with the codes in MES under the Proxi Alignment Procedure Page? Maybe some of us can decipher them.

This is what a procsi read out looks like: i don't know which position the H from the VIN is though. 2017 Q4 with latest USB and ETM:

30 34 36 32 31 30 31 36 37 32 35 4F 55 54 50 55 54 2D 53 49 54 20 17 03 24 4F 0C 40 65 10 40 19 02 0A 00 00 00 C0 00 00 00 4B 0C 00 65 10 40 19 02 0A 00 00 00 C0 00 00 00 41 5A E7 01 C9 82 07 F3 54 31 A1 07 40 10 30 0A A2 20 04 72 00 FF 63 28 00 43 C2 B8 1D 83 AC 48 45 43 05 00 80 00 0C 4E 00 00 1A 04 00 89 00 5B FA 02 07 F5 05 31 20 09 72 14 3D 81 10 7B 00 EA 00 BB 10 10 A0 3D 49 03 03 3A FF 5F 81 00 01 01 00 00 F0 20 08 20 02 0A 00 00 00 04 00 0C 1C 00 00 00 50 30 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

I've tried looking for a sequence of numbers as mine is H755 to see if I would find some sort of pattern, but cannot. I do have a sneaking suspicion that if you even change the VIN in the BCM procsi, it may cause the ETM to show a mismatched VIN and ask for a security code on the radio.

Interestingly I had put if through a Hex to ASCII converter(so at least some of it is in common ASCII). and clearly you can read "OUTPUT" in the conversion:

04621016725OUTPUT-SIT $O@e@
ÀKe@
ÀAZçÉóT1¡@0
¢ rÿc(C¸¬HECN[úõ1 r={ê» =I:ÿ_ð
P0

I just don't know exactly what to change. Since there is only one H I may try to change it to a J and see what happens, I'll keep you posted.

H or J is the 10th spot in the VIN, not sure where that comes into play here folks. Dancing with the devil I say!!
