I'll speak for myself, but coming from the VW community, I got used to a lot of power coming out of the VAG 2 liter turbo's.

An ECU Tune will definitely be my first mod on the Alfa (well maybe after tires), but I really want the tune to be reliable first and foremost.

I can only imagine the feedback on this forum if there was a failed diverter valve due to more boost or similar issue on the Alfa.

Definitely want to understand the weak points of this motor first.

Hey guys,
I performed this modification over a week ago and this is what I've observed:

Cold engine starts will exhibit a louder/deeper exhaust tone, however after about 20-30 secs after the engine has had time to warm up, the tone reverts back from loud to normal and stays there no matter what RDNA mode I put it in. I'm going to either try opening the valves or put things back to stock if I can't get the Race mode exhaust to work full time.

Hello , i have observed this cold exhaust tone too !!!

somebody knows what hapened after 20-30s ????

Chris when you describe this mod you say 1/4 inch vacuum plug, but will tight fitting vacuum caps work as well? I can't find plugs but I have vacuum caps. And do you cap the valve itself also? Thanks!

Just did this and wanted to say a big thanks to @Eurocompulsion for putting together a great DIY! Result is great!
Will you please post an update for us after driving around like that for a bit? There seems to be conflicting information on whether this mod "sticks" or not. I don't see how the car would revert itself back to closed flaps, but I'd appreciate confirmation from a trusted source. Oh and thoughts on the cold start volume too. Thanks.

The exhaust valve is a mechanical valve, the car would not be able to revert itself back or detect there was any change electronically.

Essentially you are removing the vacuum source to operate the valve. You can cap off the vacuum line or install the small valves so you can easily switch to an open or closed vacuum system.

Closed/Capped Vacuum System: Exhaust Valves open all the time

Open Vacuum System: Exhaust Valves Operational (Factory)

BGorilla, answer to your question:

That is the cold start air pump cycle. Supposed to help the cats warm up quicker. But to me its: The solution to pollution is dilution... basically.

That's what I thought too. But I've seen posts on here and another Alfa board that say once they do this mod, the exhaust reverts to quiet again and won't go loud, even in race mode. I don't know.

The 2 Quadrifoglios we have/had never went back to a quiet or stock(Its physically impossible). I have the lines plugged on the white Quadrifoglio, the car is always in a race setting (OPEN).

Just to back up @Chris@Eurocompulsions statement. Yes it's permanent, drove all day and got dam it's glorious. It starts so loud in the cold I'm scared I'll get complaints from neighbors haha. Will post a video of a super cold start up.

Easy. On cold start, open your garage door, put your belt in and fire up the ignition immediately out into reverse. As soon as a gear is selected (any gear) the cold start noise drops by 50% and us no louder than a typical cold start in neutral before the modification. Within 30s of being in gear the car will then drop back to warm idle and s very acceptable....once I figured this out didn’t wake up anyone in the house even very early morning departures...

Too much work.....:grin2:
The Forza system makes more sense to me. I have contacted them for a group buy price, if anyone is interested......

Forza is a good option but I can't imagine a scenario where I want the exhaust quiet haha. Also installation on this took about 15 minutes per side!
