To activate AA/ACP in car you do not have this you need following:
1.ETM with 2nd generation hardware (to be recognized by original firmware higher than MV051.xxx.xxx, according to some FCA documents MV003.xxx.xxx I never seen such in real car)
2.Update ETM to minimum firmware MV056.xxx.xxx, of course better go for latest MV090 for 2nd gen hardware
3.Have proper hub installed. It is IMHO mistake people say dual hub. I would not say this ever as guarantee. Also some single hubs may work, but I do not know how to recognize these by part numbers (maybe looking inside at PCB?). Really according to ePer spare part system, only these which we can recognize are some which explicitly mention proper option for AA/ACP were dual but newer part number like 2018+ production or so.
4.Modify proxi 3 bytes 115 (hub type), 157(projection mode enabled - bit 0) and 161 (AA and ACP enabled at bits 0 and 1) - all the rest mentioned on forums are not needed and for something else; and run proxi, and allow full ETM sleep so it restarts fully with AR logo etc (say 2 minutes after ignition off and door open)
5.ETM must never be earlier tried to activate AA/ACP in Witech2 (or other tool like Autel etc)
6.Get on Witech2 or Autel or other Launch and active in ETM "carplay offline activation" - if message "Set on" it is success, if "set off" then ETM must been earlier tried to activate without proxi/hub or something from above was not done.

Thank you very much @epsonix!
It was summary of a whole theme and I completely understand whole procedure now.
I have only two questions:
  • what is the source of mentioned "ETM with 2nd gen hardware" and what is its approx. price (new or used)?
  • who could be in charge to make "carplay offline activation" by use of proper software (MES isn't)?
Btw, my Giulia is produced on the end of 2017. Which way is for detection of actual generation of ETM hardware?

You either buy new ETM (on top discounts if you have somebody like that around expect around EUR1000), or 2nd hand (EUR 250-350?) and unlock it (here is problem - Stellantis does all not to sell PINs (EUR100?) - procedures are rejected by Italians(or now other countries since revolutions in company?) without reason or with stupid reason, takes months and only sometimes succeed, surelly help needed from dealer to keep pushing so you need rather friend dealer; or a few guys can do unlock of these ETMs including pre-activation of AA/ACP so then step #6 is not needed). I can give you contact to guy who can unlock (possibly offer also of his stock ) 2nd hand ETM and preactivate AA/ACP if not yet activated. send me PM if you like - expecting around EUR700-750 for such unit ready so you only do proxi and hub replace. Bit difficulty is you are outside EU, so Customs come to play, so it would need to be send low value to have minimal taxes in your country (or be below tax threshold if such exist), still though couriers may charge for doing paperwork on this for you.

Normally though, if unit is not actiavted, after all steps 1-5, carplay offline activation needs to be done either on Witech2 tool (dealers have it, rarelly independant Alfa/Fiat specialzing garages) or a few other tools can do also this procedure (not MES, not AlfaOBD), surelly I use Autel IM508S myself for this (and used sister company product Otofix IM1 as well on some stage), I heard some Launch tools also can do this - expected many garages may have these tools, not necessarily Alfa/Fiat, as tools are generic for all cars, and also the ones I mentioned are often used by car keysmiths - so such companies could help as well - you would need to call around your area to find somebody who has this.
In my case, before I had my own tool, I either used one guy who had Witech2 himself - he did activations for like EUR90 or so, and later used a few times local Alfa dealer who I had good enough relations and they charged me like EUR12 for activation (quick job really).

According to this AA/ACP isn't too cheap and simple entertainment.
Maybe you warning me on time.
Btw, offer on Ali is device which fulfil almost all needs for reasonable price (see link).

Giulia version of this chineese 10.2 is with bit diagonally placed display LOL...
No experience myself, in 2019 my friend bought it, it didn't worked in terms of ETM menu, only its own android. He got through seller suppoprt, got to expert menu, set things like support said, no luck, he returned it. It was 2016 Giulia with ETM replaced on warranty to 2nd gen, but he did mistake in the time, didn't set proxi/replaced hub but straight with his dealer went to activation and so locked ETM.

there are also box devices which work with your current display - cost order of EUR300, but there are mixed opinons on these. in my experience, I did replaced a few such units (3 various manufacturers) after 1-2 years of use, as many started rebooting, hanging etc so a few customers I had to install 2nd or 3rd gen ETM at the end.

In terms of replacing ETM from 1st gen. Yes, it is not that cheap. Usually it is best if you have car with either factory 2nd gen unit but no AA/ACP in car config or got ETM warranty replaced and get 2nd gen unit (it was matter of luck, some got brand new 2nd gen units, other got 2nd hand either 2nd gen or often 1st gen factory refurbished and updated). I did activated AA/ACP in number of such cars as well.
1st gen units sometimes have issue of more and more rebooting and not always firmware upgrade helps there, so then there is bigger motivation to get ETM replaced and so in the same time gain AA/ACP.

A related question. Is witech needed from dealer if a 2nd gen head unit is installed and only firmware is updated but the 3 proxi bits are not updated. Will radio function correctly with the newer firmware but obviously without cwrplayI understand the newer hardware is faster and hopefully less buggy than gen 1. would potentially do proxi bits and CarPlay once witech source is found thanks Len

if unit is 2nd hand with already activated aa/acp and prepared for your VIN, then if your audio config is similar (was with or without amp vs last proxi on this unit), and when you change USB hub to compatible, then even radio will work fine (sound) and aa/acp will start OK. Otherwise you do proxi 3 bytes mods (e.g. with MES/AlfaOBD), and it works. Then no need of dealer/witech.

so you do proxi run, can be done with MES/AlfaOBD the same as with Witech. VIN writes in after some time of driving (won't tell you tens miles or so?) MES/AlfaOBD you need if you need to change config e.g. adding aa/acp/nav. witech (or e.g. Autel) you need once you have added aa/acp proxi mods, run proxi but need to activate aa/acp. order matters!!!

yes, if no need currently to activate you just run proxi, but no harm to prepare already headunit so modify 3 bytes for aa/acp.

only when you need to add aa/acp it is must to setup 3 bytes for it, change usb hub and do proxi, after you go to autel or witech to activate aa/acp.

Hello all!
I need to activate AA in a my19 Giulia I recently bought used. It has single USB port.

Here's the data:

Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2Mjet 160 CV my19 (first sold in 2020)

ETM (Entertainment Telematic Module)
ISO Code:
00 24 70 4E 17
Hardware number:
50355176021 - Ver: 02
Software number:
50455007755 - Ver: 0005

Software version: MV-090.000.061

Here are the proxy bytes values recalled in this thread:
115: 12
157: 34
161: 03
163: 1A
174: 00

I don't use Apple phones, so if a USB port change would needed just for Apple car I will keep mine.

Could you help me to start the correct procedure?
What byte values to change?
I'm sure no modification was made before. Is still Witech needed in MY19 version? Could BrainBee diagnostic (a car mechanic I know has it) do the job?

Thanks

Vorrei fare la stessa cosa anch'io, la versione di software è la stessa su stelvio agosto 2018, a chi posso chiedere per avere delle informazioni?
