After replacing the etm I followed the instructions here then went to a cdjr dealer and they did the proxi and activation for 50 bucks. Does this work? Does the rotary controls and Navi in the cluster still work?
Navi in cluster doesn't work, but rotary controls do. It also works great just giving you wireless AA if that's all you want.

Also share the knowledge of the good dealer who did the work.

The gentleman who did it for me did it on the side. So I don't really want to out him. I would just call any dealer with witech explain the situation. Tell them it's easy and they'll pretty much do it. Alfa dealers in my experience are more reluctant to do it while cjdr dealers don't seem to care.

After much delay, here is the step by step process(with shiny new photos) to installing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into a 2017 Giulia.

The vehicle can have the large or small screen set-up, but must have a new version radio installed. This must be used on a version 2.5 radio module, and the radio must have never had the CarPlay activation manually set to off(in WiTech). The center console new 2-usb port must be installed on the vehicle.

Needed scan tools:
A.) Multiscan ECU and generic compatible OBD dongle(or another scan tool which allows you to change the PROCSI in the BCM.
B.) WiTech 2.0(FCA scan tool) which is currently the only way to unlock the head unit for Android Auto/CarPlay use.

While using this method we will write the procsi to all modules using the WiTech which will be much easier than changing adapters with the Multiscan program. The BCM procsi can be written(with Multiscan) and radio and USB hub installed in vehicle, then driven to a friendly dealer(any FCA dealer should do) with access to WiTech 2.0 for the radio activation and module procsi write.

1.) Using Multiecuscan, select the vehicle, go to body and select CAN Setup / Procsi(or Proxi) alignment.

2.) Click adjustments on the top tab selctor and acknowledge the warning. Press CNTRL-ALT-C to bring up the PROCSI table.
View attachment 91881

3.) Change byte 157 to 31. Change byte 161 to 03. Change byte 163 to 1A. Change byte 174 to 02. Change 115 to 15.

4.) Hit OK, then hit execute. Click through any warnings and make sure system confirmed successful write to the BCM(should be the first module it writes to). After which it will attempt to write mode modules which you can continue if you'd like(using different CAN interface adapters Blue and Grey). All modules may not write successfully especially in loaded USDM cars. This is why I recommend crashing out of the program when it asks for the Blue Adapter then connecting to WiTech 2, which must be used regardless. It is critical that the body control module have the updated PROCSI before continuing. The vehicle can be driven at this time, however since the PROCSI values do not match, the odometer will blink.

5.) Using WiTech, perform a procsi realignment under the BCM. This takes the procsi just written to the BCM and applies it to all other modules. As prompted make sure the radio is ON. Do not run restore vehicle configuration as this will restore all PROCSI settings back to factory specification.

6.) After the PROCSI is finished, clear codes and go to the ETM module - miscellaneous functions. Click on CarPlay - Option offline activation.

7.) Perform the process and make sure the system is set to ON.
View attachment 91886

8.)Turn off the vehicle and remove Witech 2 Pod Dongle. Lock doors. Allow vehicle to set for five minutes. This will allow radio to power down and allow for AA/CarPlay to work when radio powers back up. Reconnect Witech and if the vehicle has Sirius/XM perform SDARS synch under ETM.

9.) If ABS warnings are present after this procedure, go into ABS Miscellaneous functions and run Control Unit Reprogramming. Follow the process closely, clear codes from all modules and check for AA/CarPlay operation.

Hopefully this is a help and allows some enhanced functionality to older vehicles. Let me know if I missed anything and I will answer any questions when I can!
I would just like to say thank you for this guide. I'm from the UK and have a 2017 Veloce with the performance pack. Its fully loaded but was missing Car Play.

I asked multiple alfa dealers if it was possible to enable car play and was stone walled. Even showed them the service bulletins that describe the procedure as well. I was told its not possible and you could never just change 1 part and recode the car to enable it. This must be US only. There words were: "if we knew we could do it we would help our customers as so many people have asked for it and we could also enable it on our older stock to help sales.

I followed your guide on MES, then took it to my local alfa specialist in Coventry who have WITECH. Dropped it of for a service. Asked them to follow the rest of the guide on WITECH and low and behold I now have fully functioning car play!

Thank you so much for the guide and all the work that went into it! The garage are now hoping to help some other local people out as well! (yes that's a lot of unread messages)

Happy to help! I'm not telling you how to live your life, but you may want to set aside some time to read those unread messages. 🤳

Hi all, I tried reading quite all the thread but I didn't found a solution to my problem.... My car is a Stelvio super MY 2018 and I've got 8" Infotainment with software MV-072.001.002. I've got a twin USB port under my armrest. My phone is Samsung galaxy S21+with Android Auto installed and when I connect via a good USB cable I get the notification "Android Auto connected" on my phone. I still can't see any change on the car infotainment... running google maps I can't see it in the car. Am I supposed to do all the procedure using MultiEcuscan and so on ?

I assume you have car with factory AA option? If ylso no need for any proxi changes. Note, various carmaker forums had many complaints on lack of operation of Samsung S2x phones. Over time car radio firmwares got improved(probably newer libraries from google included) and for most cases it resolved issues for S2x phones. I recellect from one of giulia forums similar case when user updated infotainment to MV090 and resolved issue.

Dear @epsonix , I read this and other related threads.
I have second generation hardware, all proxy bytes are properly set, apart mirroring bit, which I updated with proxy alignment procedure. The byte which should enable CarPlay is still set to 0x03, therefore CarPlay should be ready to be enabled via witech2.
You wrote that I also need to change usb port, but I do not technically understand this requirement. In fact my current usb hub (usb+ aux) has direct connection between input harness connector and usb pins, therefore no electronic is on the usb hub pcb. Is it there some information source about pcb differences between my standard hub and hub compatible with CarPlay? Is it there any technical explanation about differences in the usb hubs for CarPlay ? Are we sure there is this need to change usb hub or is it just a theory?

There is no information about hubs, but most of hubs at least these 2016/17 won't work with AA/ACP - e.g. if you fit such into car with factory AA/ACP, these features will disapper. Only some hubs have officially option code for AA/ACP, but I suspect some without work. I would not though risk activation without proven hub number - at the end, if that is also checked during activation, and if it is reason for fail, then you would have trouble with locked off AA/ACP forever (well, I know the guy who can revert it, but it is soldering out BGA chip and doing not cheap job - hub is cheaper and hassle free).

My short story: purchased 2 ports usb, written proxy bytes (align procedure), asked dealer to enable CarPlay thru witech2.

AlfaRomeo Dealer1 answer1: new ETM is required (400€ or more)

AlfaRomeo Dealer2 (main Alfa Romeo dealer) answer2: we don’t do it, find someone else.

I contacted @SniZ and he enabled it by remote, with his device plugged in, in 15 minutes.

problem solved!

I use it with iPhone. Mirroring byte was set in proxy but I can’t mirror the screen. Is it normal?

Later I tried to reinstall old usb port but CarPlay doesn’t start. New usb is required. I will never technically understand this fact
usb hub is carrier of some kind of licens say - maybe even nothing fancy, just setting to allow which firmware in checks to fire up aa/acp. aside, your 6.5 display does not look too good (cracks), probably time to look around for good 8.8 as upgrade ine the same time, especially that carplay on 2nd gen uses full 8.8area.

no, official prices are near to EUR2000 and still all acrivations/hubs required. its only ETMs from say excessive stock sales from stellantis could be significantly cheaper than MRP - I know as once I bought whole EUR palette of goods for giulia/stelvio from Stellantis (including 12 ETMs 2nd and 3rd gen, 3 last MY20 HIGH/NAV/AA/ACP/reversing camera ETM virgins available)

Bigger display is expensive unfortunately. No cracks in mine.

You see it from angle on contrasting colour chabge edges, eg black-white, pink/blue -black, white-red etc. Yours started cracking

Very useful and interesting theme.
Thanks for all participants and especially for experts which made possible that old "1st gen" hardware of Giulia (2017, 002.010.043) has AA and CP only by change of a few bytes in the PROXI configuration and proper alignment.
Excellent! Cheers! (y)

No 1st gen mv001/002 requires unit/hub change, then proxi then activation. Cars with 2nd gen units but no factory aa/acp are lije you saying
