Alfaobd on my interface always fails proxi on airbag, so anyway need to finish on mes. Mes (i use multiplexed) passes usually ( random failing modules). Alfaobd has complete proxi settings list, mes only say 20 of hundreds, rest needs to be set in hex edit. Alfaobd diagnostics has only a few modules, mes has majority. In other hand alfaobd has complete list of procedures in abs module, mes nearly nothing and so cant go out of errors eg after critical damage repair. Alfaobd can get keyfob programming code mes cant. There is no perfect tool, my friend who runs independant workshop and does mainly current alfas uses mes, alfaobd, texa and witech as none is complete and perfect:)

Is there a specific version of Multiscan ECU I need? Additionally, if i purchase a new ETM, does that ETM need to have a vin number coded to it or is the radio code all that is required proper functionality?
Thanks for the information @epsonix! I think my real question at this point is, since I only want to do the EMT/Radio install, what is the cheapest version of MES I can use to complete this! Also on a brand new ETM does the vin have to be coded to it or is it just a radio code? at what point in the process should any of that occur if so. Let me know your recommendations!

standard MES + some proven OBD interface and adapters (blue and grey). Maybe in US talk to Alfissimo, he must have ready sets. But that is only proxi preparation part. Sitll for activation you need Witech2 as last stage (unless some other tools nowadays also can do procedure, but Im not aware, do not follow this since 1.5 year ago I stopped doing any car jobs - too much hassle/phonecalls/emails/FB and no time for such and no fun after nearly 200 Giulia/Stelvios in my house garage). anyway before evrerything you need also AA/ACP compatible USB hub installed, and your ETM must support AA/ACP. I do not know what is your situation, do you change ETM for newer (and have pin code for it), or is your own good to upgrade?

Totally get it and thats a lot of wrenching my friend! The details are:

1. Car is a 2018 pre AA/ACP PRE compatible vehicle.

2. NEW Gen 2 AA/ACP compatible ETM is being sourced from @Alfissimo as we speak.

3.New never synced dual USB media Hub has been sourced already and is my possession. Confirmed by @Alfissimo that I have the correct unit.

4. Local dealership is on board to complete the WiTech procedures necessary after MES proxis are set by either myself or the tech.

Biggest question i have left are:

1. Do I only need the pin code for the new ETM OR do I need the PIN and VIN coded in as well? For either of these when is the proper time to input this data (since etm is new) as to not mess anything up for proxi settings via MES?

2. What are the proper OBD to USB cables needed? you mentioned blue and gray?

Thanks again @epsonix

until PIN is entered you'll see only prompt to enter "anti-theft code" and "Settings" menu. there will be no sound from radio. PIN is only available from dealer network through online.
VIN should be written automatically into new unit the moment you plug in your radio and turn ignition on.

thank you for the info on that! And I assume the PIN code notification willonly be displayed/entered via WiTech correct?

I am ordering a new ETM from Alfa through @Alfissimo and should come with a code I’d imagine.

does it matter if I have the Harmon kardon system or not? Is that enable through WiTech through some setting?

wrong, he said is brand new headunit, so no pin needed. new ETM comes without code.

@elliottholt88 you are on proper path then. SInce you deal with Alfissimo, get MES and interface/adapters from him. For your job, and just in case in future most of diagnostics it is I think best for our alfas, especially for the money.

in older alfas also car came with codes both for radio and reprogramming code - both on cards. they do not do this anymore neither for car nor for standalone new radio

So,

i've short proxi (157 byte) and i will expand to 250 changing 106 from 9D to FA filling 158 ~ 250 with 00.

i've ETM Gen 1 and i will replace with ETM Gen 2 only after proxi expansion.

AA/CP Bytes with right usb module, remote usb under climate control, ETM Gen 2, are:

115 -> from 14 to 15
157 -> from 34 to 31
161 -> from 00 to 03
163 -> from 00 to ?
174 -> from 00 to ?

right?

your byte 157 if was 34 I woudl change to 35 as we want to set bit 0 to enable projection mode, but leave others whatever they mean (I see according to docuemntation three is not used max oil temperature setting on bits 2 to 6)
163 I do not think it is any important, but my car with stock AA/ACP had there 02
174 I do not set leave it 00 as my car stock had such and there are rather not any use settings there for prefacelift cars

Proven approach (we didnt risk otherwise) is that USB hub needs to change before proxi and activation (mean Witech activation done as last stage unless you have ETM 2nd hand with already active AA/ACP) for one with number compatible with AA/ACP option, but surelly does not need to change if your ETM is already activated for AA/ACP - mean works on old hubs and likely single USB as well

I can offer unlocked/tested 2nd gens with aa/acp activated and with support if my posts on this forum are not sufficient. Dab, nav, nav 3d and nav 3d +dab config etms in stock. Nav versions with latest maps. Starting at 600eur + shipping (ue around 30eur) bit up for higher spec etms.pm me if you are interested.

motherboard PCBs are copletely different between 1st and 2nd gen ETMs, 3rd and 2nd gens only look the same (maybe memory size is bit different, not sure what are differences/gates preventing upgrade from 2nd to 3rd gen really). I had once opened 2nd and 1st gen, and other day 2nd and 3rd gen ETMs on my desk. Must have picures somewhere. I never tried to mix processor boards, I had no reason to do so, so can't say more.

Without at least some level of comparison i would not try. Without i wouldnt risk. Even if things were compatible enough, small/silly setup on motherboard could stop operation or even do misbehaviours or damage. At the end its conplex elecytonics with a lot of things both elecytical and setup which could just get chcanged between 1 and 2 gen. Up to you.

In other hand, there is easy path of paying for proven solution, other guys like me and guy I cooperate with who spend time to get etms unlocked and ready tor sell.
