They can replace the VIN on a used ETM with Carplay to use it in an older Giulia?
Yep they do. BUT...
You'd better put few things together 1st.
Let me explain:
1) I bought a used ETM from a wrecked Stelvio, the PN is 50553589 and it has navigation, DAB tuner, the possibility to activate AA, and the rest is like the HW 1st series (just more responsive). IMPORTANT: you need to know the VIN of the vehicle it comes from, but you can also get it attaching it to the car and scanning it with MultiEcuScan
2) I modified my proxy before to install it, and since mine is a Giulia I expanded my proxy from 157 to 250 bytes by changing byte 106 from 9D to FA and filling with zeros the bytes from 158 to 250
3) installed the new double port USB under the arm rest, mine came with the AUX, a normal USB and a USB-C, PN: 156152385, also I installed the USB under the hvac commands (PN 50548751 for the USB port and 156118825 -that I'm still waiting- for the plastic where it gets mounted on)
4) tuned the proxy for the new USBs with MES: entry "Multimedia: external media ports" value Type 4: AUX +2xUSB.
5) sent the newer ETM to Eng-Customs with the old VIN it came with and with the VIN of my car. 180€ is the job cost.
6) tuned again the proxy to allow for the AA/ACP (still with the old ETM installed), Byte 157 from 00 to 35; Byte 161 from 00 to 03; Byte 163 from 00 to 02 and aligned with these values
7) installed the new ETM into my car and realigned the proxy so that it has the same values as from point 6 and as the rest of my car

Now, it went perfectly for a day, then it asked for the unlock antitheft code. This is normal: it senses that the car it's in doesn't look like the one it came from and triggers it.

8) contacted the Alfa part dealer and asked for the code: it costs 80€ and you need to give them the serial of the new ETM, the VIN of your car, a copy/scan of your ID card (and I gave them also the car ownership certificate of my car and the VIN of the car the ETM came from telling them it was a wrecked Stelvio 2.2 diesel from UK, I live in Italy). After 2 weeks or so the card with the code came and I inserted the code in the ETM: and bang, it works flawlessly since then, no more codes asked (which would happen if you didn't do the point 5) upper).

NOW, what is missing?

3 things.

FIRST: Eng-Customs only changed the VIN to match my car in the ETM, but they didn't change the settings for the navigation (they'd have needed my old ETM too, to copy those files), so the maps for my car, that I saved before, were refused from this ETM, regarless the correct and valid license. Also my car has a 6.5 screen, while the Stelvio the ETM came from had the 8.8 one. I'm still not sure if the car would accept (with the correct license) the 6.5' maps.
Anyway, I found a copy of the latest maps that were around without the VIN matching check, which are the maps 1052, downloaded them (the ones for the 8.8' screen) and they went up no problem.
I strongly suspect that, until Eng-Customs manages to replace the navigation setting files in the newer ETM with those from my old one, the only maps it will accept are those with the license for the Stelvio... There must be some file with the VIN somewhere in the Navigation files on the ETM that must be replaced with the one from my old one.
By the way I discovered that the maps for the 8.8' screen work well also on my 6.5' one, even with the 3D parts on:

SECOND: activate the AA/ACP.

THIRD: install a DAB aerial and activate that too with MES by changing the setting for the DAB receiver.

For both 1st and 2nd I have an appointment in Milan the next 14/June with Eng-Customs. I'll bring with me both the ETMs so that they'll be able to do all what is needed (and I know that can be done as another mate I know did the navigation fix too).

For the 3rd I have the antenna here (Macrom M-DAB01.F ) but I want to fix the other 2 points upper, before.

Cheers, Alex

Vin replace does not help, on unlocking, still PIN needs to be obtained what is very problematic and they say now it requires original VIN of ETM (not sure if they check it against serial number from some logs or is just obstacle to make harder for people to apply?). VIN replace only helps on if you have doubts on legal source of ETM or just want to have on scan only components showing your VIN, then some replace VIN, but ETM after such change overy quickly back asking for PIN.

Yep, infact at point 8 upper I got the Alfa dealer involved to get the unlock code (not a problem, just 80€ and the need to explain to the dealer what it was as it was the 1st time someone asked for it) :)

I replied to Duetto156,somehow skipped your post (was first on new page which I must missed). Your experience with getting PIN looks like no problem, mine is different, dealer say Italy rejected, they wanted also original radio VINs (I didn't bother to read them no matter I tested/updated my units earlier, so gave them VIN of real car compatible with headunit part numbers - I applied for 5 ETMs in the time). I know that ENG Custom also has issues with getting PIN codes sometimes, similar rejection reason he heard like mac address of ETM given does not match VIN of original car. I know also a few guys in Poland who some failed some succeeded, never it was easy path, always it was battle with FCA Italy and need of getting involved somebody from higher FCA management in Poland, multiple reprompts and 3 months of patience.
Of course VIN of first car can be read from ETM with e.g. MES assuming that it helps with process. Problem is one, we buy random ETMs on ebay and similar services. Maybe in past Giulia/Stelvios were not stolen, so was no risk you buy dodgy ETM, but nowadays we hear a lot of stolen FCA cars, so potential risk exist - these parts are at the end sold somewhere. Here VIN replace helps on cutting possible issues in case somebody checks in future (not sure if current Witech2 tool checks any stolen car databases when it does scan)

About DAB aerial. Take care, the ETM puts 5V phantom power to the antenna cable. I tested 3 antennas and the best one is this (available on Amazon here in EU, not sure in the U.S.: Eightwood EA AN7523
Fundamental is to connect the ground short cable that sticks out of the antenna body. If it's too short or you don't have any suitable ground around, then you can weld a longer cable to it and bring the ground where it's better. Also the 3M tape on it it's not that sticky on the aerial body, so I removed it, degreased the aerial body, put some 3M primer 94 on and used a 12.5mm 3M VHB 5952 tape I've around.
I tried also this one but the performance were much much lower, which is normal considering it's not amplified: https://www.amazon.it/Eightwood-Antenna-Adattatore-Automobile-Parabrezza/dp/B073WRF85X/
Oh, you also need an adaptor, SMB male to Fakra female (like this: tomzz Audio 1500-042 Adattatore per antenna Fakra femmina (f) a smb maschio (m) : Amazon.it: Elettronica ) to connect the antenna to the ETM.
And, of course, enable the DAB receiver through proxy settings with MultiEcuScan.

Hi guys, i'm from Italy and i have a Stelvio 2.2 diesel 2018.
I have the 2nd generation of infotainement with sw version 090 and only 1 USB port under armrest.
I understod that the only configuration that Is fully compatible with the activation of AA/ACP Is sw 056 or newer and double USB under armrest.
Considering that i'm looking only to AA, It seems that my configuration should be enough but it's not really clear.
A friend of mine has witech and we tried to activate AA but the answer Is Always "setting inactive".
Searching on the web i've found this forum and i've discovered 2 things:

1- probably i Need to make a proxi alignement before the activation via witech
2- trying ti activate AA without proxi it's possibile that i've blocked this possibility

Now i'm here asking help about this situation.
I'm available ti buy MES with E327 but my fear Is that i've blocked the possibility to activate AA.

Can someone could help me?

Thanks in Advance

Sorry to say this but your etm is doomed in terms of aa/acp, you already spoiled it trying to activate without amending proxi. One time inwctive status stays forever.

I cant advise on hub. Some tine ago i keatned that previoudly activated etms for aa/acp work with old hubs, but not sure if it is mandatory for activation or not. I never risk when retrofitted/activated aa/acp so car was fully prepared hub part number eith listrd aa/acp code and proxi amended and that is way which i know works.

3 years ago my friend did mistaje like you and he tried a lot and failed to activate aa/acp, he ended with aa/acp box instead

Damn.... Unfortunatly i've seen the advise too late.
Your friend use a solution like ENG custom?
Yes. Only other option is different etm but here getting pin in most of cases is problematic as fca often rejects and often you do not onow what you are buying (already locked aa/acp as some did your mistake or in terms of legality since nowadays a lot giulua/stelvios get stolen)

Sorry last question... I've seen that peoples that change ETM for an ugrade or similar could ask to FCA unlock code to install It. Maybe could be a possibility to unlock my etm or it's a different thing?
Totally different thing, that's just for when you move an ETM from a car to another.
Anyway you are still with hopes, just, instead of tampering the ETM which is now blocked, get the Imperium module from Eng-Custom, which now also uses the original Alfa microphones.

It can, but most probably you will need to offline activate AA/ACP at a dealer. If it was already set to OFF, then it is not possible to turn it ON, so pretty risky. (or buy an ETM from a car that had it. Ask for VIN before buying and check the window sticker).
You will also possibly need a USB hub that supports AA/ACP.
The biggest challenge will be to get the anti-theft code for the ETM. Read this thread back, everything is written down.

With witech rather unlikely. You need mes or alfaobd or other which allows diggng in proxi
