So this started about 2 weeks ago where out of the 5 function buttons on the sunroof only one was working all of a sudden. The only button that works is the passenger side sunroof button that opens it completely, but you actually had to hold it down and wait for a second or two,and after an audible click, then let go and then hold it down completely to open the sunroof screen and the sunroof itself, it also seems it did not open the sunroof completely.
Dealer said they were aware when I dropped off this morning and I explained the issue. Will update once I pick up the car later tonight and receive the paperwork.
Link for video of issue.

Side Note: The dealer staff loved the car on the Eibach's, and seemed stoked that I had 5600 miles on the car and have been truly enjoying the car as it is meant to.

I didn't want a sunroof either, first ordered Giulia came in with a shorted amp and head unit from rear window leak in shipping, dealer didn't want to lose sale, so I got 4k in options for $40.00 more.
Never use the sunroof so I hope to never have a problem. But I love the other options, leather pkg, driver dynamic assist pkg, and hi-performance bi-xeon headlights.

I've followed the various sunroof threads, and successfully done the recalibration sequence in the past. However last week when my sunroof was closing there was a loud clunk when it was sealing the glass panel and the sunshade stopped halfway closed. I originally thought it had jumped the track based on my basic mechanical knowledge since you can still hear the motor run when buttons are pushed.
I took it to the dealer this week who informed me it was unrepairable and my car needs an entirely new glass roof installed.
He said it will be 5 weeks to receive the parts and 2 weeks in the body shop to replace the entire roof. This sounds extreme, and like they are opening a can of worms for the future of my car. They did not even remove my headliner to inspect the mechanism or tracks. Has this happened to anyone else? I honestly don't want them to remove and replace the roof on my car.

Same thing happened to me just recently.

Sunroof wasn't moving even despite the manual reset mentioned here. It worked for a few days and then would get jammed.

Took it to the dealership and then was told whilst they were fixing the sunroof it fell of the railing. They ended up having to order the parts and change the whole glass sunroof.

It took me nearly about a month to get my car back mainly because the parts were so slow to arrive from corporate. Luckily I have a second car, because my dealership doesn't even have loaners!

Bringing up an old thread. I tried to do the reset, but no luck. I'm not hearing the motor at all.

Any suggestions before I contact the dealer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello I just received my Giulia last week and I decided to open the sunroof this weekend and it didn't work. Only the shade screen opens/closes but not the actual sunroof ( I only hear a click when pressing the passenger button/tilt button) I've tried the reset method mention here but no luck. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Take it to the dealer and get it fixed is my recommendation.

chi guy, your method worked on my 2017 Ti Q2. Thanks a bunch. Ironic thing is that prior, it would still open, but had to have everything be closed... hold the close button down to first to let the shade open all the way.. then watch the roof open before letting go. If you held it too long.. it would go through the close cycle again lol. Was just inconvenient that way. Now all is good!

Hello gents, resurrecting this thread as I'm having similar problems...

Took the car in for a regular oil change service a couple of days ago. the AC fan was making a chirping noise so they changed that as well. Dropped the car off with the sunroof in the 'vent' position, when I got it back, it was closed. As it reached 44C here yesterday I opened it to get some air flow. Tried to close it later and with multiple attempts it would not close properly, getting stuck somewhere between 'vent' and fully closed.

I recalled there being a reset procedure, which brought me back here. Tried the procedure and now it's worse! There was a bit of a crunch, and now left side is fully closed, right side open at the 'vent' position. Now when I press the 'close' button, I just hear the motor whirring. Nothing if I press any other button (including the sunshade).

I can't get it in to the dealer til Tuesday and I don't really want to drive it too much while the glass is twisted, given I have a 90mile round trip to work.

Anyone have any interim advise until I can get it to the dealer? Thanks in advance.

You'll need another person to check. The side which doesn't want to close must have broken some sort of tab on rail. You should be able to figure it out what has been broken while other person operates sunroof. If you push that tab with thin wooden stick you should be able to close it.

My sunshade and sunroof had quit working a few weeks back. Both were stuck closed. I have the manual for my 2018 but found the reset instructions not very clear. I searched these forums but the information I originally found was for sun roofs that are stuck open. I then did a google search which took me to the Stelvio forums. One post there identified my problem. I had kept the sunshade open until the day I closed it and it got stuck closed. I had held the button down when I closed it. I should have pressed and released. The same thread had much clearer instructions on how to reset the sunroof.

Today I searched these forums using a slightly different search phrase and found this thread. On page 2 there is clear instructions for the reset. This procedure worked and now my sunroof and sunshade work again.

Lessson learned - press and release and let the sun roof do its thing.

Mine has a different problem, the glass roof is closed, but the curtain is half open.
Already tried the reset procedure on the manual, with no success. Do you know if using MES it's possible to force this roof calibration?

My sunroof has what appears to be the same problem as yours. Glass roof fully closed and curtain is about 1/3 the way from closed. The only button that does anything is the "close shade" button on passenger side. It causes a motor to run but nothing moves. It doesn't matter how long you keep the button pressed either. Other buttons do nothing. I am assuming it is not a fuse blown since that motor runs. I have MES so I might see if this tells me anything (after I install the SGW bypass...).

I never had the chance to look deeper. I just traded the car in for a new one (A 2023 Giulia Veloce).... The dealer has to fix it now before they take it to auction. I am in there tomorrow because apparently my new ride already needs a software update. So I will ask the Service Manager if they have fixed it and if so what did they do?

One thing I did discover is that Jason @Alfissimo carries a "Sunroof Repair Kit" for $61: Sunroof Repair Kit- Alfa Romeo Giulia

This might be the key to fixing it and certainly worth a shot before taking it toa dealer.

I was in the process of closing my sunroof, while driving at about 30 mph, and just reaching for buttons not seeing which ones I pushed, when it started making a grinding noise. not wanting to damage anything, I stopped pushing buttons. it was fully open. I brought it to my local mechanic who was able to get it to the closed/vented position, and told me to bring it to a dealer as they didn't have the tools (?) to fix it. Called the Alfa dealer in Salt lake who quoted me about 2k to fix it. This seems excessive and in any case is out of my budget for now. I'm hesitant to do the reset as I don't want to do any more damage, but need to do something. I've seen posts here stating it could be fixed for around $800, which would work. given the nearest dealer now is in Albany NY about 2 hours away, I'm hesitant to go there if there is an easier fix. I can see one cable kinked, and the first shop said there were issues with the tracks, but didn't go into detail. Any thoughts...besids don't get a car with a sunroof! (I love them)

Hello guys, I have MY21 Giulia which came with broken sunroof ( the right side rail was damaged ) and after long search finally I found a working one on an amazing price as I am too greedy to pay 1k for this s**t at the leader :D Anyway, I did change it myself but came across another problem now, the sunshade jumped out of its place as I loose some bolts on it in order to reach all bolts for the rail and now I can not put it back as it was I mean there is some simple mechanism that roll over the sunshade while opening but something is wrong there as it stay very loose once its closed and when I open it wont roll as its supposed to but instead it goes everywhere. Does anyone of you crack open this thing and know how exactly the mechanism works and what might be broken/missing from mine? Please dont send me to the dealer as the car is US import and it does not have warranty :(

My 2018 yo went almost 80k miles before the sunroof shit the bed. Initial estimate was 2k to fix. Supposedly Alfa came up with a new fix for 1/2 that but my nephew totaled it before I could find out. Picking up a 2019 same colour sme trim with 15k miles and a 5 year warranty. Hopefully it will outlast me! Haven’t driven a 2019. Main difference I think is no electric shocks on the new one. Looking forward to finding out!

Thanks guys for this thread . I have 2019 guiia ti. It sunroof button #1 that does not work anymore all of sudden. Sunroof button # 2 starting get stuck open. Did try the reset tick from this post. It worked only once. Got it close before the rain. There is no place in New Orleans to get the roof checked out. Starting to hate this care. I should have kept my Saab!

The sunroof on my 2018 had a similar malfunction however having had a slob in the past, trust me, you are better off with the alpha. The electronics in the shop gave me all kinds of nightmares. To impossible to find the cars aren’t made anymore and there is a certain field to the alpha that you won’t find anywhere else. My 2019 TI sport is a whole lot more fun to drive than a 2010 Porsche panamera s and cost less than half
