Hello everybody, I recently got my Giulia, and over the past few weeks I have accumulated quite a few modifications. I first started off my installing the spoiler off of the QV. I also just ordered carbon fiber mirrors and door handles.

From the moment I picked up the car, I loved the tone of the exhaust. I just wished that it was a little bit louder. I spent lots of time looking for custom exhaust options for the car, but no company has released one for it yet. So I decided to go the custom route. I took it down to a local muffler shop and had them remove the resonator, but it honestly didn't make any difference at all. Then I drove right back to them and said "man, its not loud enough". He said "ill remove the muffler if you want... but its gonna be too loud". I told him to try it as you can always put it back on.

Let me just say it turned out PERFECT. The sound and tone is absolutely mind blowing. Its not too loud (about the same volume as a stock mustang GT) and has beautiful sounds on upshifts and downshifts. It also has no drone at all at high speeds and honestly you can't even tell a difference from stock (at higher speeds) other than if you are really stepping on it.

The shop only charged me $160 for the whole thing, and its definitely money well spent.

I will be attaching a video with before and afters of the exhaust soon.

I’m taking a slightly different approach:
I’m going to just delete the muffler after the resonator by removing the clamp, remove clamp and take the whole muffler out then I might just add a turn down pipe with another or the same clamp to direct exhaust gas to the floor instead of straight out.

Total cost if I do the work myself would be about $15
A shop I’m guessing about $100 at the most since they don’t have to do any welding at all

Example of pipe:

I ran my Giulia like that for a while just letting the exhaust go down from where the muffler removes. I finally decided to actually get piping welded in as the exhaust cutoff is right next to the gas tank . It was also leaving a black residue under my car lol
Yes, the gas tank is just in front of the rear axle down low to the ground spanning the width of the car. Aside from that concern, I wouldn't want the exhaust getting inside the cabin. It needs to exit past the car and into the airflow or it can/will find it's way into the cabin.

Did you put a pipe to point down or just left it straight? I noticed the gas tank is close so that’s why I was going to add that “turn down” pipe.

If anything I’ll add a little longer one lol

went with straightpipes from the catalytic converter, been running like this for a while now, couldnt be happier, and the quad exhaust tips just make the car look so much better

How much did it costs after all said and done? Also, any sound clips?

Just had my local muffler shop do the delete. Love the results. Sounds great, especially from how quiet these are from the factory. I left the resonator in. Total cost was $180.00, he did two exhaust pipes instead of a single.

Thanks for clarifying the slip joint location. To be honest, most people, myself included did this for a more aggressive sound. This isn’t a permanent replacement for an exhaust, but easily reversible. Power loss is negligible, considering even with your best exhaust and a tune you might gain >20 hp. Happy with the sound, as oem is very quiet. I was debating on this, but ultimately happy with the result. Maybe down the line I’ll change the setup. But this was a nice inexpensive compromise.

Sorry for jumping on the back on your post pradeept08 i have just changed my giulia from a diesel to a veloce 280 BHP uk model, i like you said at the begging of you post the car sounds a little quiet so i am wanting to change the exhaust note, but i don't want something to ridiculously loud and not make the car sound like something its not. i don't know too much about exhausts and whats works and dose not. any help will be much appreciated!

I was looking at
Ragazzon 50.0770.73
Stainless steel rear tubes group N left/right each with round Carbon Shot tail pipe 90 mm
Oversized exhaust pipe diameter 76 mm

I have also attached a picture my question is do think this exhaust will sound too loud and make the car sound silly or what would you guys recommend?

Thanks for your help!!! :)

I installed straight pipes after the resonator, which is pretty much the setup you are looking at. My pipes are stock 64mm, so the tone would be different but I can tell you:

1) Cold starts are loud! If you listen to my videos back to back, you can tell the increase in volume. With the high idle, while cold, the car is audible a good distance away, and inside buildings close by.

2) Interior noise in increased a bit, but not uncomfortably.

3) There can be a bit of a drone in the 1,700-1,800 rpm range, but it isn’t bothersome to me in regular driving. The transmission does a good job of avoiding this range most of the time...but I am exclusively in D mode. The drone in your favored system is likely at a different rpm.

4) The car sounds pretty good to autofans, and has developed a nice brrrrap at high throttle shifts.

Hi,

i have recently fitted a Ragazzon cat back system to my Giulia Veloce,

The system came well packaged, was nicely made and fitted really well.
Makes a really nice sporty noise, certainly more noticeable from outside than in the car, and is not intrusive in any way, just confirms you are driving a sports saloon.
Really good system.

hey guys anyone else with straightpipes getting nice pops n bangs from time to time on agressive shifting between gears ? it pops so loud sometimes makes me wonder if thats a 4 cyl lol

I’m doing the straight pipe cut out next week. I can’t see dropping $1,200 for basically the same thing that can be accomplished for $200 on the high end.

Well I ended up trying the resonator delete today at the custom shop and I hardly notice a difference at all. Taking her back in Thursday to do a full custom cat back exhaust with muffler delete as well. Probably should have started the other way around, but deleting the resonator was easier. Lesson learned.

I also ordered the Eurocompulsion V2 intake which should be here before the weekend. I already have the Pedal Pro so she should be a different animal come Saturday afternoon.

Dean, you’ll be pleased to know the sound will likely improve over the next month or two. As the ECU learns the slightly less restricted flow, it’ll adapt and start getting a little more aggressive.

DeanDep I obviously don't know the resonance characteristic of your custom straight pipe is. But would imagine its similar to the Corsa 67Hz / 1,800rpm where the cabin exhaust noise increases by a factor of 2.5 and you can feel it through the back of the drivers seat. Which didn't actually prevent in car conversation but definitely is audible when your on the phone. I also got complaints from back seat passengers about the vibration through their seat backs.

I just got fed up having to really focus while highway driving with non car enthusiast friends to ensure the Giulia stayed above or below 1,800 rpm or at least made the transition at essentially zero throttle. So I added a 1/4 wave resonator which keeps all of the on boost rumble & bark, keeps the engine audible below 2,200 but looses all the 50 & 67Hz resonance / drone. I have now been able to drive it in ambient temps from well below freezing to mid 90's and it works in all cases.

But all that means for RacerZ is a trip back to the custom shop to add the 1/4 wave resonator if the off boost noise turns out to be more than you want.

DeanDep - can you give us an idea what a custom built straight pipe system cost compared to the off the shelf options?

Hi Alan. I would say these costs quoted here by AlfaCrisis are probably what you are going to find at a high end shop like where I went here in Charlotte. My car was on a lift between a Bentley GT and a Lamborghini, so you can figure the rates. My cost was SIGNIFICANTLY less than this, but I am friends with one of the guys at the shop, and it was their first Alfa Giulia exhaust so they were very nice to me. The $200 additional for stainless seems high, and I have full cat back. Really the bulk of the cost is labor, and at $100+ an hour at an exotic shop it can add up. Probably 1/2 the cost of a purchased brand name system is what you are going to find if you start looking around is my best guess. I would stick to a higher end performance shop though rather than your local muffler guy.

FYI, custom mid-slip joint (just behind the resonator) back, straight 2.5”, aluminized pipe with dual exhausts via via pipe in muffler would run you $525-575 at my local Custom Shop. This is a bit high because this is a nationally known exhaust shop with the hot rod crowd. Going cat back would add the cost of a little extra pipe, some bending and the connectors. Stainless would have been $200 extra. The stock read section doesn’t like coming out without some loosening of some components underneath, but this deal is completely reversible.

if he did it after the downpipe there wont be any codes thrown, o2 sensors are located on the downpipe before and after catalytic converter
