Start Stop - In my opinion Great for city traffic jams but annoying for regular driving and I assume must creat more engine wear.
Can the start stop be disabled w the push of a button with the 4 cylinder TI model ?
Thank you

alright guys,
did a simple test:
while you hit the engine start button on the steering wheel and the starter motor turns, just hit the s/s button. the little light stays on and s/s disengages.
therefore,
a simple 12v automotive relay will do the trick!:

85= ground
86= 12v+ from starter wire
30= ground
87= pin#8 on s/s switch.

switch will still be functional in case you'd like to activate start/stop feature during your drive.

I don't have a problem with the pushing the button as we have it now, which I do pretty much daily, but what annoys me the most is that when the system is engaged and you stop in your driveway, you don't get a chance to put the trans in park. Engine shuts off, click on park, engine turns, than shut-off

At a minimum, a delay of a second or two would be nice

Concur 100%. Maybe even 2 or 3 seconds of delay?

Interesting. In the Stelvio everytime moving from N to D it reactivates the S/S. Also when switching on the car after leaving it on Dynamic it also reactivates it. Maybe the case with the Giulia is different. On another note I really loved the Guilia, the interior finish is way superior to Stelvio, but I need an SUV, so Giulia is out of the question unfortunately..

I think that's conform the Giulia. Switching off S/S is not permanent, every time you start the car the S/S is re-enabled till you switch it off again (for the current trip). That's what makes it anoying, it does not remember the last setting.

Since the engine computer is in the engine bay, you would probably have to tap the starter and mount relay in engine bay and run a wire to pin 8 on the SS switch. Also hide the wiring, but most likely if found would void warranty.

re Auto Stop/Start...as far as I can tell, all appropriate conditions are met (as listed in the UM), but still mostly inoperative.
didn't work Sunday; did Saturday; didn't Tuesday-Friday...
Service for headlight washer issue and more last week showed no faults.
Did work on the trip to service (Monday); didn't on return (later same day)...

Service guy said " don't worry; be happy".

In my opinion, this 'feature' is not only annoying, but could prove to be dangerous.

Earlier this week, starting my commute to work, I came to a stop at a junction from a residential street, out on to a major street. I'd angled the car slightly, to make the right turn. I was looking to my left to see if the street was clear. At the moment that I decided it was safe to pull out, the engine cut out, via the Stop/Start feature. The steering went heavy, as expected when the engine is turned off, and tried to center slightly! As I lifted my foot off the brake, the engine started up, and I was able to pull out. This process seemed unsettling, as the steering wheel jerked slightly, right when I was ready to pull out onto a major street.

I'm not sure why pushing the stop/start defeat button is any more difficult than pushing the button on the steering wheel that brings the engine to life.

GAPF!.
No different to my wife's Audi A3. It cuts out before you have come to a complete stop. Steering and brakes are hard to operate.
Not sure if this can be rectified, i will inquire at the 1st service but it is a little off putting and could also be a little dangerous.
I have posted this because if anything doesn't operate 100% on an Alfa it becomes such a big issue however if it happens to most other car brands its acceptable.

@Italcars, sorry to change topic but I just saw you have a Bora. Very cool car! My Dad had a 1970 Ghibli spider that he bought new at the factory. The sound was magnificent. Every drive was a special event, even as a passenger. I imagine the Bora is similar.

I just picked up a Ford Escape company car to use for a while - it also has auto start/stop that defaults back to on every time you start it.
You can disable it, but it comes right back on as well.
BMW may be one of the few that allow you to keep your last setting.

I do enjoy that Alfa (for now) allows you to manipulate all the setting in the infotainment/GPS even when you are moving.
Most all cars lock you (or your passenger) out as soon as you start rolling.

ok. i figured out how to keep this system off every time without having to push the button. i accidently left the passenger's side of the hood unlatched when closing it yesterday. i didnt realize it til this afternoon. the whole time it was unlatched, the stop start unavailable message appeared on my cluster and the start stop never came on. mid day today i realized it was unlatched and pushed it down. after that the start stop started working again. tested my theory in a parking lot and i was right. having one side of he hood unlatched disables the system. i'm not suggesting that you drive around with your hood unlatched but im sure the switch on the latch can be either unplugged or grounded depending on how the circuit works. as long as you dont mind the warning message coming on every time you drive the car, this should work.

yes I have multiECUscan, it will reset the oil counter, when I get home next week I'll see about start and stop. I purchased a license and their OBD interface for oil changes in the future after the first free one (still debating if I'll have the dealer do it, when I purchased a oil filter from them they were going to sell me mobil one oil that did not meet specs)
