The base model does not do sub 3 secs. The performance pack does that and it’s well over 100k. Still a good car. I like the styling. Not sure why they would water down a mid engine and compete against themselves with base models etc. should simply be one car all or nothing. Gonna gain a few 60k mid engine customers and lose plenty of front engine ones imo

The Z51 performance package is def not 40k extra. On the C7, it's an additional 5k.

I'm very impressed with the looks and performance of this model. Definitely not a vette guy but this is a strong possibility after my Ti lease is up. I want a coupe that drives fast with an exotic look. Been considering a 4C but the interior just kills me. Would love a giulia coupe but losing faith each day. Who knows but this jumped up the list with those numbers and I think with the right packages (been playing around with the build), it can look amazing. It's a great time to be a car guy.

I can admire the attributes, but the design is lazy imo. For a halo car to get design cues, strongly, from a lesser car that is rumored to be on the chopping block yet again makes no sense. The grill and wedge/pointy shape are just more aggressively aero Camaro cues and the taillights??? Wth Even the side vent has angles from the Camaro. I say it’s new...and will sell for about 2 years adequately like the C7.

I think it looks great - placed a reservation for one. Still holding out to see what the 2020 QV brings. My Ti lease is up in less than a year. Is it sad that what excited me most about the reservation is the extensive list of participating dealers vs. Alfa's 2 in MA? :)

How will the handling of this car compare to a QV?

If they hype it about being a Ferrari or mclaren competitor is real then the C8 should easily out perform a qv. I just think it’s more hype than reality. I could see it doing well for the price

Should handle exceptionally well compared to qv. Lighter. Faster. I would say it’s an epic fail if the C8 isn’t even on par with an NSX

It looks like a Camaro. The Camaro should be the muscle car and the Corvette the sports car. The zl1 1le is the anomaly I think.

That said, it looks good, the performance is good and so is the price

Crazy how the mind plays tricks on you. Watched the reveal last night and been looking/reading all the articles this morning. Just went for a 4 mile round trip run to the beach and saw everything from a M2, 850, Bentayga, Boxster, F Type, Stelvio, and of course some C7s and they all look so outdated compared to what I've been looking at the last few hours. I know that's normal and within a year of the vette being out, it will just be another car but I do think they rose the bar on this one. Lets hope the driving is just as good ... and cmon Alfa do something ... anything.

I spent some time playing around with the configurator, and you can make it look pretty good with the right options. I was impressed with the amount of luggage space it has; not something I was expecting from a tight mid-engine layout. I don't like the steering wheel, and the interior just looks awkward as far as styling, but the functionality looks good. The instrument cluster screen shows a good look and layout when it's on. I watched their "behind the scenes" videos from the guys who designed various things, and I get what they were going for on the dash/interior layout, but after living with the beautiful elegance of the Giulia interior for almost two years, to me the new vette just looks clumsy inside. I do however like the seats; they look both comfortable and capable of holding you in place when using the performance of the car.

The back of the car is the visual weak-point exterior-wise. It looks like somebody sat on it when it was warm and squashed it down in the middle. I really wish they'd done something more like the front which looks much better. I really like the headlight housing style and design. The configurator lets you see the front with the lights on or off.

Actually, the configurator itself is impressive; really well done. I like how you can move the view in, out, all around as you choose each option to see how it all looks from any angle. Nice color palette for paint colors too.

The price: "under $60k" is a real surprise. I was expecting more along the lines of just under $70k. The base model will most likely be $65k by the time you actually buy one, but to have a car that looks like that with the performance it will most likely have, for that price, is pretty darned impressive. Best of all there are thousands of Chevy dealers coast-to-coast if you need service. For those who just have to have one right away, I expect the stealership mark-up is probably going to be pretty brutal the first 6 months or so.

I can see this pulling sales from the high-end Camaro and Mustang customer base, as well as some foreign brands. This thing is most likely going to be a big success. I don't want one for the same reason I don't like almost all of the super cars (the McLaren 720 being a big exception) which is that they look too garish for my tastes. I wonder what price the insurance industry is going to put on insuring it; the cost of ownership may be pretty high.

The other issue I have is where would you use a car with this kind of performance if you're not going to the track? My Giulia in N mode has 350 hp which is just about perfect for stop-n-go commute traffic; not too much, not too little. The new vette base model starts with 495 hp. I would be chomping at the bit with frustration if I was driving that in traffic as a daily driver. I know many of our QV drivers daily drive theirs, but it's also a 4-door sedan, versus the vette which is a tight 2-seater.

I can see this being a competitor for the QV to some degree; especially with their dealer network and support versus Alfa's which seems to be slowly disintegrating.

I really wish FCA knew what to do with the Alfa, as they don't seem to much care at this point which is SUCH a shame. The 2.0 is such a great car; especially at the price point it has. FCA has what they need to make it a success, but they don't seem to be doing anything to make it one. Without at least a good dealer network, the brand won't do any better than it has or is at the moment, which I fear may not be enough to keep it here in the U.S. If the dealer situation keeps deteriorating, "Houston; we have a problem".

No fewer than five of my neighbors have C7 Vettes in the driveway. They're nice looking cars, and certainly sound the part, though I have never actually seen one being driven anywhere but the slow lane, at ten under. I recently had the chance to sit in one and was utterly aghast at the layout and build quality of the passenger compartment. I'm 6'2" with a long torso and straight up did not fit in the vehicle with the roof on, an issue I also have with the RF Miata.

The new model does look very compelling for the price, though the rear styling is Civic Type-R levels of offensive. Sad to see the quad center tips leave due to packaging constraints. I imagine the giant V8 will have superior reliability and lower running costs compared to the 2.9L, though I'm sure it's heavy. I also think they missed the opportunity to use scissor doors, which would have really hammered home the "supercar-for-all" mantra. Here's hoping the interior quality is much improved.

The LT1 isn't heavy, I don't see any reason to believe the LT2 will be heavy either. I can't find a weight for our F154, but I'm willing to bet it's similar if you count the turbochargers and intercoolers.

The C8 is an awesome achievement. It does look like an NSX but thinner, lighter, and half the price. The NSX is an overpriced failure—I’ve seen a total of two ever.

When you first see a C8 on the road, you will definitely stop and stare. How many cars on the planet can you say that about for anywhere near that price?

I finally got it working. It was cool to play around with. I wouldn't give up the qv, but if if I had the means for a second car, this just jumped to the top of the list

Good article. I think he’s a little critical of how it looks. Imo it looks good. I would be more skeptical about the performance numbers for $60k. How did they dial in the RWD launch at that price?? But if they pulled it off then most likely car of the century at that price point, looks and performance. Is it really cheaper than an M2? Crazy. I get the feeling they will pull a Tesla move and not have many base models available forcing people to spend at least 75-80k. Makes more sense from a business standpoint. I guess time will tell.

As always the Corvette gives a good performance/price quotient. The styling however is too fussy in my opinion and as noted by some others. Form is forced, not following function. One example: the forced angular nose was formed to both elongate the now shortened hood with a mid-engine design, and to bring the design closer to the shape of a stingray. While they accomplished this, they also accomplished a huge front overhang. Anyone watch the video of Mary Barra and the head of design pull out of the garage (in camouflage) in Manhattan and either scrape bottom or nearly so? Too late to go back to the drawing board at that stage so owners will be left with the next 8 years of listening to nails on a chalkboard, or spoiler chins on asphalt....Yes, I know Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren all are long and low but the 'vette used to be a daily driver experience and this design will not fair well with owners accustomed to other priorities.

Apparently they found a way round this (out of necessity ? ;) )

I cant see this thing going 0-60 in under 3 seconds.....with "only" 495HP and the weight i believe i read is roughly 3350lbs give or take. The QV has 10HP more and roughly 300lbs heavier, correct me if i'm wrong. So based on these facts, the C8 would only be faster by around 0.3 seconds, giving a time of about 3.5-3.6 seconds, not sub 3. Am i missing something here?

#44 ·
That's part of it. 305 vs 285 on Giulia (and the McLaren).

If I remember right, I think I read somewhere that the base model would be about 3.5 seconds for 0-60 which is still no slouch.
You are not remembering right, the time is for the base model. It shouldn't surprise anyone, a (now) 2-gen old C6 Z06 gets to 60 in 3 seconds and can run 10's in the 1/4 mile. Corvettes are no joke.
