I wonder how hard it is to change the buckle. I suspect there is just a big bolt securing it. I suspect this would require removal of the rear seat.

 

Looks like the middle buckle has a small indent in the center of it as the only difference. I think a little work with a file would adapt a standard extender.

 

Yes it did for the female side but not for the male side.

 

I am sure that the center buckle is different for safety purposes. The car is apparently crash tested with 4 passengers, not 5. The center belt does not have a pyrotechnic retractor and it has a reduced height headrest. By using a different buckle it is not possible to accidentally clip one of the male side buckles into the center female receptacle.

The center female part of the rear buckles is easily removed. Just lift out the seat bottom (it snaps in place) to reveal a bolt that holds down 2 of the buckles. I removed the entire center buckle and head rest from my car; no sense in carrying around parts that I am never going to use.

Aren't modern child seats supposed to use the tethers and have their own buckles? Perhaps this is for a booster seat?

 

My Euro spec QV did not come with a centre rear belt (or headrest) however I suspect there is no tether installed for the centre rear on the US spec car. Just a guess.

 

Ok I just modified one of my booster extensions so it works with the center seatbelt receiver on the seat

I have attached a photo, standard extender on left. Modified on right, all it took was the small dent filed in the end. The standard one won’t latch into the receiver the modified does. The modified also works in the left and right seat belt receivers.

It’s a seatbelt so only you can decide whether this looks safe to you. But 5 minutes with a hand file gives you another option.

 

Right. I did that. But what about the buckle itself that comes with the car. It will not buckle into the extension because it already has the groove and it won't click

 

that is so you don't buckle the wrong belt into the middle receiver.

you can't modify the seat belts in anyway or you will have issues w insurance if you are in an accident. the buckles are very regulated by nhtsa .

I used what were once called 'safeguard go!' boosters which tied into LATCH and had a 5 point harness good too 60lb child. really small form factor and safer than 3 point harnesses.

in Europe it's probably a 4 seat car so no center belt. in the us it needs to be 5 to compete so it passed it's safety inspection as a 5 seater.

 

Please note that the Giulia has upper latch points for all three rear seats, but lower latch points on only the outboard seats. You should NOT use the inner pair of lower latch points for both two outboard and a center child safety seat, as those lower latch points will no longer function correctly. This may limit the seats you can use. Also, 2017 and early 2018 Giulia have an automatic seat slide back that cannot be disabled and generally makes rear-facing child seats unusable and risks the legs of forward facing passengers.

 

Did you ever figure out a car seat setup for 3 kids in the back of a Giulia?

 

Here is my 3 kids setup for the back of the Giulia. Of course any setup will be specific the ages of your kids and the safety/seat requirements you have.

Giulia is our 2nd car and the main family car is a mid-sized SUV. I have 3 kids in my car maybe once or so a week. Daily I am transporting one or two kids.

My kids are currently 6, 4, and 2, all front facing (kids are all tall and large for the ages).

6 year old sits in the middle on a travel booster seat (only booster I could find to fit the middle). 4 and 2 year old have matching ‘slim’ car seats with latches and anchors.

To protect my Crema interior I put down a pet seat cover (need to cut it out a it with scissors to fit the car seat latch points) and installed some seat back protectors.
