I've been corresponding with a shop in Arizona that has developed and is testing a controller that allows you to open the exhaust flaps completely (as in race mode) in any mode. Here's the response below. You should feel free to contact them...it may make them speed up the development if there's a lot of interest:

Hello Simon,

I am testing the controller on two Guilia’s at this time. The first test (from an owner in the Netherlands) has come back with positive results. I made a minor adjustment to the controller configuration and am conducted a second test (with an owner in the USA), that should have results within 2 weeks or so.

Preliminary results is that the controller will only be able to provide two modes of operation …
1. Normal (the car’s ECU controls the exhaust flap valves just it does now)
2. Always Open … you will have ability to open force the flapper valves open at all times.

The controller has the ability for a third function … Always Closed … however, in the first test when this option was enabled, the sensors in the exhaust detected too much back pressure when in RACE mode, forced an immediate Check Engine Light warning. This only occurred in RACE mode. In the second test, the Always Closed option is disabled and a different car is used for this evaluation. I am fairly confident that the second level of testing will be successful.

In summary, it is likely that for the Guilia, only two modes will be enabled (Normal and Open). This should not be a problem because when you want to have the valves closed, switching to normal mode and reducing the engine RPM will cross the threshold where the ECU will close the valves. Normally, you would want this when going fairly slow anyway.

The only disadvantage is that the Always Closed option has been a desirable option for people who track their cars at venues that limit the sound level. It is appearing that for the Guilia, I won’t be able to offer this option as the car’s sensors don’t seem to like it. Throwing a Check Engine Light will not be option for most owners. But, with the Always Open option, you will have the option to keep the valves open for that throaty exhaust note at low or high engine RPM levels.

I will notify you when I have the product ready for sale.

Kind regards,

Steve Bisel

I do not know of any specific service center in the Raleigh area that installs the controller. Many Alfa dealers around the country and international locations have installed the controller. But, you have to ask. Some will decline to install it.

The installation is not that difficult. On the Forza website there are a couple of articles with illustrations on how to install. A person who is handy with a wrench should not have any problem.

I also recommend that you visit a high-end audio shop that has experience installing speakers and audio components in high end cars like exotics, Alfa's, BMWs, Porsche, etc. These shops have the tools, skills and knowledge on how to route cables to various nooks and crannies in cars. Show them the installation instructions and let them have at it.

BTW, the total time to install should not exceed two labor hours ... for a skilled technician with a lift. So, don't over pay for this service.

There's 31 pages here on this thread and I don't want to go thru each page to find my answer, I know it will be here so forgive me for asking.
@forzasteve do you have member pricing for the controller?

#313 ·
Put me as tentative. I need to check with the Dealership. Forza should know if Bill Luke or Scottsdale will install these for us. They are the only two dealerships around Forza in Phx. Do you know off hand if either dealerships will do it? 2 labor hours is about $300. If not them I would need to call around and find out who would do it. Are we saying Audio shops?

Forzasteve. Can you PM me anyone you know in Scottsdale / East Valley?

#318 ·
Yes. The remote can be programmed to the HomeLink buttons on the sun visor. Very common for owners to do that. It does require dedicating two of the three buttons though. If you only use one for the garage door, then you are good to go. But if you already use two or three of the buttons, then you have to choose which function you want.

I've already received and replied to the PM from @forzasteve but figured I should make it public...

Thanks 4Foglio for confirming. I have PM the same as you. The discount will change if we fall less than 6 or 7 I forget so can everyone confirm on this thread so we know how many are going forward? I did read some reviews and although I am one who is hesitant to do any mod's this is one that is sort of a no brainer and a lot of "BANG" for the buck versus the exhaust mods. Both is perfect but this will be enough for me and like being able to go back to factory when I choose. Also, local dealer didn't have an issue with an install so I am calling that no issue with warranty which is always my concern

Hello All,

I need to close this group buy. Thanks to all who indicated that want to participate.

If there any future group buys, I ask that one person coordinate all activity including collecting payments. This is not something that I should be doing as I am no longer an official vendor and I believe that my participation is really not part of the rules of the forum.

I am happy to communicate via private message, but I do not believe I should be coordinating this.

Thanks to all

Steve

Please see my reply, above. Please consider this group buy as closed.

Steve
Steve,

Thanks for you're part in following the desires of the forum Admin. It's appreciated.

I don't have an issue with the car owners / forum members doing a group buy from a non-vendor, as long as the vendor has no influence on it here in the forums. That being said, they will need to have a group leader who communicates with the vendor (in this case, you) outside of the forum, IE email or PM. The group would use the forum as their common group communication center. Emails, phone calls etc. between group members is acceptable as well. That sort of personal info should be kept private though, publishing your phone number or VISA number is not recommended.

So, carry on with the group buy. Decide who will be your group leader, hold the lump of cash and be responsible to re-distribute the paraphernalia.

Several question were recently posed to me regarding the exhaust bypass controller:

Q. Does it affect emissions?
A. No

Q. Does the controller affect the power (either improve or degrade)?
A. As the Giula QV and Stelvio QV are turbo-charged and the position of the bypass valves are downstream of the catalytic converters ... opening or closing the bypass valves will have little or no affect on the power of the engine.

Q. What is the difference between the Model B4A and the Model E3?
A. The B4A uses an aluminum enclosure and the B4A will withstand very high temps such as might be found in the engine bay of a Ferrari or Lamborghini. The E3 uses an ABS plastic case and is suitable for lower temp environments such as the trunk (boot) of the Alfa Giulia or Stelvio

Functionally, the B4A allows you choose if you want the exhaust valves open or closed (normal mode) at engine start. The E3 does not give you the choice. With the E3, at engine start, the valves will be closed (normal mode).

Q. What is the difference between the B4 and B4A?
A. The B4 has two connectors for cars with two vacuum solenoid valves. The B4A has only one connector for cars with a single vacuum solenoid valve.

Q. Can the model B3A be upgraded to the B4A?
A. Yes

Q. Is the controller water resistant?
A. No.

Q. Will installation of the controller void the vehicle warranty?
A. No

Regards,

Steve

Programmed the homelink today. Works spectacular. I love just having to hit the button on the visor and keep the key fob in the center console. As a side note, if u really want the exhaust experience, u really need to be in manual mode. I usually drive in N mode and when in manual with the valves open, it is absolutely glorious.

Haven't gotten to hear it yet but the dealership did the install on the Forza Controller yesterday. Still waiting for the wheel to return to the dealership. I am expecting my CF illuminated door sills and puddle lights today and will take them over to see if they have time to do the install while she is just sitting. (My husband can't believe I haven't gone over for a visit). Super excited if I can get it all done. Next will be the scudetta and possibly the mirror but not 100% on the mirror in CF yet with the Rosso Comp. Hey Eurocomulsion has a CF insert for the shifter knob. Not the bottom plate but at the top handle (replaces the rubber piece). These are sort of birthday presents for Giulia. She will be 1 year old in April. Surprise to my husband and I think he is too busy to read the forum during the week. (otherwise it won't be much of a surprise:eek:))

We have the default set to factory start. We can turn it on at the start but I thought it might wear on me over time so figured I rather give myself a treat and open the flaps when I want. Fingers crossed it sounds as cool as I hope.

You'll love the CF insert - I have it on both the Q4 and the QV. The only thing is you're going to have to "jimmy/work it". It's a pain to get on, but once it's on, amazing to look at and really makes the feel of the interior that much better versus the plastic piece.

Would love to hear your feedback on the Forza Controller, and CF illuminated door sills after installation!

I know I am doing a happy dance. I am paying the dealership to do all the work including the sills and puddle lights. We didn't buy the QV from them and they have been great about service so far so we want to support them so we are paying them so they better get it right ). OMG I had to open the box as soon as they came in and I love the looks of them. My husband is really big on lights so the only thing he may have preferred is if the light was "BLUE" he loves blue LED. I have wanted to get those since we bought her. The lights the exhaust note.....HEAVEN
@Chicago By the way I hope you are staying in doors and the QV is not hitting the streets today. I lived there for the first 30 years of my life and said OMG there has to be something better. I could not handle the cold.

Installed mine last night. I love it. Now I just need to program it to the homelink button. The interesting thing here that no one has mentioned is the error message that popped up on my screen. It said something like "exhasust valve controller needs service" but that went away after I drove the car home and has not popped back up.

Thanks @forzasteve

@zoster33, I did not have that error message with my install.

My dealer in the DFW area (NOT Alfa Romeo McKinney, which should be stripped of the dealership both in McKinney and shamefully now also in Dallas) had my car in for scheduled service and when I asked him about one of these devices to open the flaps on my Qudrifoglio, he told me that they had done it several times by simply locking them open with some kind of pin, and they normally charged $70 to do it. Since my car was already on the hoist for the service, they did mine for free. Now I have the "Race" noise also in "n" and I enjoy it greatly to be able to paddle shift in green and hear the Giulia sound that under no circumstances should ever be muffled. The day I want to go back to normal (never), I just would need to swing by the dealer and he would remove the pins in less than five minutes and be done with it. Best of both worlds: inexpensive as it can get (free), and absolutely ZERO chances to get any kind of warning lights showing up, plus not having to worry about pushing any buttons either on a remote, on the homelink or the phone. The typical win-win-win situation.
