I checked today on a 2017 and I didn’t see an option for it, so not sure how your dealer did it or what module they were in.
I'm not talking about an option in the infotainment system. They replaced and reprogrammed the physical seat control modules in the car, which, if I'm correct, are small boxes (about the size of a deck of playing cards) located underneath the seat bottoms.

According to my service advisor at that dealership (who owns a 2017 Giulia as well), the early build Giulia's were coming in with a bunch of seat operation issues. Everything from crooked seat rails to malfunctioning seat control modules.

I think that if the seat is set far enough back for taller people, it isn't supposed to slide back for easy entry. Could just take a simple swap of a little plug-in module to have it stay in place.

I wasn’t either, I was connected to the car and looking at my options in witech. If it needs a module changed, well that’s possible, but I can’t do that without authorization from FCA.

okay cool, so we're on the same page.
you are absolutely correct.
I had to wait weeks to get authorization on my Giulia for some reason, but it worked.

problem solved? anyone else wanna try this out and report back?

i actually really like this feature, but everyone has their own reasons.
@alfatech, most fca vehicles do have that option, not sure why the alfa's don't, but i'm sure it could be put into a software update.

Anyways... It is possible to have it disabled. If you have a competent dealer nearby, they should be able to program it to stay in a fixed position.

They accidentally disabled it on my giulia once when i took her in to have a bad passenger seat motor replaced (apparently they both run off the same seat control module or something?) and i immediately took her back in to have the feature re-enabled. After talking to one of the techs, we discovered that it's pretty simple to do. I ended up taking my stelvio in to have the feature disabled
because i actually have passengers in the back seats sometimes and it's just not really necessary in an suv.
this post to me is very misleading, you're saying it can be programmed by a competent dealer to stay in a fixed position, but what actually needs to be done to accomplish this is that the module needs to be changed? thats not a simple programming fix

My experience with what happened on the Giulia and the Stelvio were polar opposites. Not really sure why, but on my Giulia they had to get replaced to have in re-enabled. On the Stelvio, I drove it up to the service center, they took it to the back for like 15 minutes and came back with the feature disabled.

I'm not exactly an Alfatech lol
Sorry if I wasn't being clear... just sharing my experiences and letting you guys know that it definitely is possible on earlier models.

:smile2:

Every time I call customer care, I ask them to document the concern that if someone is in the back seat, their legs can get squished if the driver opens their door before the rear person gets out. I figure perhaps the threat of bodily harm to a passenger will make them more interested in fixing the concern.
My dealer stated that it will most likely be in an infotainment update, giving the option to turn the auto-slide "feature" off.

Until I can disable it completely, I've made it my "post-flight" check. Every time I exit the vehicle, I press a seat adjustment button, which stops the sliding. Kinda similar to the "pre-flight" check of pressing the engine shutoff feature button.

I brought my 2019 Giulia Ti Sport home on 12/31/18, the dealer turned it off via settings.

Yep, on the later infotainment versions it's just a menu item, you don't need the dealer for that ;)

Most likely will be the fix for this later, they will either make it a recall or offer a Software fix or box module that plugs in and stops it from backing upon opening the door. They had a similar fix for 164 seats back in the 90's.

So far I am not sure it bothers me much but I can see the annoyance of it. It least I don't have to squeeze in like I do in my 164 with Recaro seats. This will definitely help with Bolster wear.
