Anyone NOT have problem with a Sunroof?

I have a chance to buy a Giulia Ti Sport. It has a sunroof, something that I really don't want, but which comes with the package.

Does anyone NOT have any problems with their sunroof? I worry about the possibility of leaking (we get torrential downpours here). and it maybe getting stuck opening and closing. The nearest dealer is 200 miles away, so servicing would not be particularly easy.

Thanks for your help.

I agree. Every car that I owned that had a sunroof I forgot it was there. Really a useless bit of kit if you ask me. My Lexus GX has one and I am not sure if it works as I think I opened it once two years ago. When I was an M3 owner, I was always looking for a comp package without a sunroof (and finally found one). My Porsche both had one but they were second hand, the desirable build is without one. So glad the QV doesn't come with that useless bit of misplaced weight.

I think leaking will be the least of your issues especially if you have a dealership near you. I haven't had any problems with mine getting stuck or leaking (10,500 miles odometer reading). I did test drive a stelvio (used) and the moon roof did not open but it probably needed to be reset like mentioned a previous post somewhere in this forum...

Sunroof works great!! They’re loud AF when you drive with it open. That being said, it creates a really interesting, and imo, attractive site when you see it from the outside with the roof open.

2 Giulias, no sunroof problems. In fact compared to multiple other cars the aerodynamics are very good and fairly quiet even at highway speed. Just crack rear windows.
Also looks excellent and sporty when open. Wouldn't do without!!!

Hi
My answer will be from just a personal experience Considering that I live in Texas!
First I never used The sunroof in my BMW and I had no problem with it Being there
I sometimes forget that I even have it !
But on my Giulia it is Somewhat a problem!
And it’s not the opening and closing “the mechanical/ electric part “ But It’s simply the poor insulation or zero insulation that it has!!
Again if you live in Texas you know how hot it gets even though the glass on top is tinted But there is no Extra padded insulation inside the actual roof liner like the BMW :(
I think That’s the case with Most newer cars nowadays!
not sure why !?
So it’s really annoying because it takes longer for the car to cool down . That might be a complete different experience with someone living in California and likes to enjoy the nice breeze and the clear skies!😎
But if it’s only rain you don’t have to worry about water leaks
We also get heavy rain 12 months a year here !
Maybe something to worry about But “years “ later when the seals start drying out and cracking and that’s definitely normal with any vehicle !
Good luck
Cheers,

Mine got Stuck closed once. Then the car died 3 days in a row. Turns out the battery was bad and its something that controls the sunroof on the battery that stops working when the battery is faulty. NO CLUE if thats true or not but thats what my dealer told me. Otherwise no sunroof issues at all. Other than being loud as all get out when its open and driving.

So far no issues on my sunroof! Though I do live in AZ and the glue to the mechanics of it did melt causing to get stuck...BUT it was fixed for free with all new parts since it’s a common thing out here and is under warranty:). If you ever do run into issues Alfa does offer to tow your car for you so that you don’t have to drive all the way there. Hope this helps!

On my second Giulia.. First was a 2017 Ti Sport Q4 , 3 yr lease that i obtained in August w/o performance pkg. Sunroof broke 3 weeks after getting the car. After closing the roof the right rear corner would stay up. All fixed under warranty in days... Fast forward i decided against re-leasing and against a pre-owned c43 ( i drive too many miles to lease). I purchased a fully loaded 2018 Ti Sport Q4 w/performance pkg 21k miles 2 mos ago and this sunroof broke the exact same way last week. LOL Appointment set to go into the dealer for repair.. Still love the car and would not purchase one without the roof-hence why I didn't go for a Quad.

I concur with most posts here. I have an early '17 and use the sunroof often due to the fabulous climate in Joburg year round. Not once have I had a problem with it. No creaks or rattles. Between the missus and I we've had 3 Spiders and Saab convertibles so we hace enjoyed open top travelling. Had to compromise with my Giulia with a smaller aperture to the skies, but still love it. Makes the car look great too.

Wayne,
No problems with my 2018 Q2 moonroof at 27,000 miles. As others have mentioned it’s a good idea to clean and use protectant product of your choice on the rubber seals, along with window and door seals periodically, as well as visually checking that there is lubricant in the gears (and door hinges). As with anything mechanical a little preventative maintenance goes a long way to assure good usability.
Are you considering at a new or used Ti Sport?

My sunroof had a small issue in that it would open halfway then return shut. I found I could “recalibrate” it myself. There’s even a note on the manual on how to do this but there’s also a thread somewhere on this forum with an improved description of that procedure. Anyway, it’s a 5 minute fix and I’ve never had an issue since then (this occurred about 2 years back).

I also have an unwanted sun roof (like you it came with the package. My 2017 2.0 has been flaess to date. I've used the sunroof perhaps a total of 20 times without a glitch and definitely no leaks. I don't know what to tell you as I am one of those guys that doesn't do anything with my car other than drive it every day (not a lot of mileage 24867).
I'm glad I didn't give up what I wanted for something I didn't want. If you don't plan to use it what have you got to lose? You can hit the roof with a power washer before you buy just to be sure.
Let us know what you decide and why.
Good luck!

Well, the new, 2019 Ti Sport with the sunroof sold.:( But I am in the process of buying a new 2020 Base model with 18 inch wheels, at nearly $5K off MSRP. Actually, this was my preferred configuration all along. :) I am having to pay a premium to get it shipped, but that's OK. I'll keep you "posted" and post photos when I get it (assuming no last minute glitches).

If the temperature is anywhere between 65 and 85F, I’ll likely have my roof open. I’ll go to run errands and/or shop and open and close it three or four times in an hour. No glitches, no breaks, just nice fresh air. It looks good open, it looks good closed, it looks good eating green eggs and ham, a great sunroof I am.
