EDIT: See page 5 for procedure.

This is a continued discussion from another forum we unintentionally hijacked. Sorry!
I've succesfully updated my 2017 to AA/Carplay, looking to build a how-to and am working with anyone to confirm all of the setup variables.

I have a 2018 Stelvio and just installed the Giulia/Stelvio Infotainment unit and the Giulia dual USB hub from Alfissimo.
When I arrived at the dealership the tech there told me "three people tried to do this already and it failed for all of them."
But I didn't get a lot of info on those three people's setups. I decided not to risk an irreversible programming mistake and cancelled my appointment.

Reading through this thread, it sounds like one step that's missing and maybe the dealer wouldn't have thought to do either is to change bytes...something something PROSCI something MES?

Not sure but it sounds like no one has done this successfully with a Stelvio, only a Giulia?

Wondering if I should just have the original unit reinstalled and cut my losses now.

I don't think anyone has figured out the proxi keys to a Stelvio yet. I haven't tried, I have looked, and it seems like the Stelvio has different flags to enable Carplay. So, yes, if you do not have the correct proxi keys and the dealer attempts to turn on AA/Carplay, it will lock the head unit in the "NO" position.

proxi is similar mods of course leaving all stelvio or trim dependant bits untouched. i did this twice in stelvios. only hub installation is 2h extra job due to need of unbolting underneath the tunnel. im on travel right now but layter can advise what to change in proxi exactly

In short you change hub to dual but with compatible to AA, here are my records, all compatible
156138299 NAFTA 156143958EMEA -> 156147799 -> K6QW48DX8AC -> K7AQ67DX8AA
then you go to proxi, right Alt+C on last tab.
byte 115 must be 0x15 (dual with aux), so if different change it (single are 0x14)
byte 157 you need to set lowerst bit, so e.g. in EU GIulia 0x30 change to 0x31, in EU Stelvio 0xB0 you change to 0xB1 - this adds mirroring function
byte 161 in both cases change to 0x3 - this allows AA and ACP
byte 163 I do not think needs change, but I set it just in case to what I had with stock AA/ACP to 0x02 (giuliaforums said about 0x1A which acoording to my proxi info has no function in these cars)
giuliaforums also said byte 174 to 0x02 but in my stock car I had this 0x00 as well my proxi records have no funciton for that byte in pre-facelifts. I do not set that one to customers and a few activated sucessfully
after you do change, OK, then run proxi, when done, power down for say 1.5minute so all dash and radio fan (later) gets quiet, then after this you can go to Witech2 and activate in ETM Carplay option which enables both AA and ACP.

All parts can be purchased here to do the job:

dealership:
"It's going to cost $1,157 to run the codes because each code takes an hour. Estimating 5 hours and can't guarantee it will work"

The only part I understand about this is "can't guarantee." I don't know how long it takes to run codes either but I assume nobody here paid a four digit price to run codes?

Is it just me or is the rest wildly unreasonable.

My dealership appointment finally came up after two car installers told me I had to go to a dealership for this and the first dealer quoted me a four figure price with the additional detail that he had no idea how to do what I was asking for.

Dealership #2, Walked over to car with engineer. He was showing me his WiTech2 set up on his computer and how he wasn't able to change any proxi values. I told him I don't know what tool he is supposed to use but that he needs to use something that plugs into the USB Hub to change those values (I think I might have been wrong about that one). He was plugged into the OBD II port.

He told me he can edit the "proxy alignment" but I didn't see anything there that allowed him to edit these values and nothing actually was editable there anyway. He told me he doesn't have that tool and doesn't know what it is, so I guess I'm back to square one. Is this something I can buy? Is this the "MultiECUScan" software and does it plug into OBD II?

I'm also super concerned he might have permanently set CarPlay to off but he is telling me he did not. He opened "CarPlay offline activation." He hit continue before I could stop him and saw on the screen "CarPlay is off" I told him, I think you just did the thing I told you we should absolutely not do until the proxi values are updated. He told me "no, that's only if I hit this second continue button, it will go through and I haven't done that yet."

From earlier posts in this thread, I think I would have seen "Set OFF" if he had reached the point of no return and he didn't go that far. Please tell me that's right 😬

MES or other tool which allows either handmods of hex content or has ready settings for all. Witech does not allow, at least the version dealers have. I use MES. You do not plug it to hub, but to OBD like Witech interface. Hub is separate story, you need to have installed it first, then you do proxi mods, then you go to Witech.
Now, in terms of guy entering into Carplay setting. Although I done preparations for AA/ACP on something like 8-10 cars, I always sent guys to either dealerships or to one guy I know who has Witech. Once I witnessed, but we didn't play to find out how to break this, so we just went in prepared and executed procedure, so unfortunatelly can't answer if your radio is already locked or still a chance to activate.

I guess that there must be some way for headunit to reset, but how to do this I have no clue, possibly some engineering tools nobody has access to aside of small number of engineers within FCA or their headunit supplier (magneti mareli)?

Thanks. I'm not sure if I want to sink more time/money into this at this point not even knowing if it's permanently set to the off position.

The dealer told me while showing me on his screen "it doesn't even give me an option to turn CarPlay on." It just showed an uneditable field "CarPlay is off."

Driving back, I noticed the backup camera worked and hadn't after the install. So I know he ran WiTech despite my telling him not to run it at all until we got the proxi values changed.

Hi all, I have read many posts and my conclusions are these for STELVIO (I ask in this GIULIA forum because in the one for Stelvio they know nothing) :

1) the Stelvio produced on and from 11 December 2017 already have the AA and ACP predisposition that can be activated simply with Witech in the ETM - CARPLAY OPTION OFFLINE ACTIVATION section
The byte activation procedure with MES (!) Is NOT necessary
In practice they already have the "radio" gen 2 with software from 56 onwards and the letter C in the VIN

2) for USB ports not all docks with 2 ports are compatible and some have AA etc. with only ONE Usb + Aux (!!)

It's Right?

#278 ·
Maybe you are confisuing with USA MY2018 cars which were sold with extra pay option with promise to activate AA/ACP later - this was called 'prewired for Carplay' or something like that.
I think these cars also needed proxi change, but that was done as part of restore of proxi configuraiton after adding sales option code against VIN. Later they block this possibility for EU cars, as people were overusing for activation in dealership. So MES become only solution.
Hub needs change, in Stelvio it is nightmare job. HUB supports AA/ACP in all its slots as well as in front slot once setup correctly. Hub must be compatible part numebr with AA/ACP (not just dual). Not sure about single USB hubs, I seen cars with factory AA/ACP with single, these AA/ACP compatible I bought were always dual.
once hub installed and proxi handcrafted/executer to program in, and possibly headunit restarted from deep power down (all logo display etc), then Witech activation can be executed and must be succesful unless somebody already tried iwthout hub/proxi, then this radio is no use for AA/ACP anymore.
after activation, deep power down of radio needed to allow boot with new settings, and all works.

PS.Yes, stelvioforum is not active not too much knowledge from what I seen popping in there a few times.

Here's the issue I ran into.... Prior owner installed the CP/AA upgrade and I purchased the car with it active from a dealer. Updating the maps reset something and the infotainment went into constant reboot. Took the dealership 7 weeks to figure out the car did not come with CP/AA, removed the dual hub, installed single, and sent the car out. Because it was not flagged by VIN as having the upgrade, they removed it all. Now I am trying to use the Tech Bulletin that shows they can upgrade early 18s to get them to put it all back in and make sure to log it this time.

my Stelvio has the C in the Vin, it was built on 12 December 2017 and has etm gen 2 with sw 90, but it has only one usb in the armrest, but it also has the one under the climate, I have read around that it can be easily updated with original AA and ACP and costs 270 euros. It is not cheap. I asked to try to understand better. anyway having the MES 4.8 with original cables (I activated Acc + etc.) Tomorrow I will go to read the bytes, I'm curious
Tnx a lot

#281 ·
IMHO you should change hub to compatible number with as/ACP. Do you want to risk. Majority of cost is hub say 180eur, replace in stelvio is 2h you can do yourself, rest is proxi mod again yourself. Activation in etm depends on dealer, can be eur 50 other will charge 20. I found one who charged me 12eur....

My ORIGINAL ( STELVIO) bytes in proxi are:
115 -- 14
157 -- B4
161 -- 03
163 -- 00
174 -- 00

i think its already activated from factory. 161 is 03 so AA and ACP are activated (!!), 163 and 174 some recommend leaving them at 0 because they are irrelevant, 115 is at 14 because I only have one USB under the armrest, the only problem is (perhaps) the value of 157, but certainly it is not the value with AA deactivated, that is B0, instead for me it is B4 (even if it should be B1 as I understand it)

what do you think? maybe I just have to try to activate the ecm with the witech?
Tanks a lot

#284 ·
No, it isn't big lack in 157, more details
115 - 14 is for single USB hub, duals have 0x15, question is what part number of hub do you have
157 - B4 is not correct for AA/ACP, if you had B4, then B5 woudl be correct (bit 0 set to 1 is critical - most of stock giulia stelvios had 30 B0 respectively without, to activate you need 31 B1 respectively)
161 - 03 is ok both AA and ACP allowed
163 OK
174 OK

#285 ·
perfect..
i read tonight that 157 is mirroring and it must (!) be active as you say, so from 0 (even) it must be 1 (odd). On the usb hub it goes to luck, it depends on the serial number even if it is single.
What I find particular is that everything is already active in byte 161.
In the end I should "ONLY" bring byte 157 from B4 to B5 and perform a proxy alignment with MES, then activate the function in the ETM with Witech.
Tnx a lot

#287 ·
bits 6:2 of byte 157th are some related to max engine oil temp (whateve it does at the end, maybe nothing as value is marked as not used which again means nothing as there are some which works and opposite some which are marked used but do not take any effect :) ). I have 31, stelvios I seen were B1, can't recollect any 34/35/B4/B5 at least across a around 6-7 cars where I added AA/ACP.

#289 ·
not necessarily, if your stock was B4, change to B5.
My car proxi today got around 30 changes, many not used, other used theoretically. saturday other 40. all related with getting postlift ETM retrofitted. most of issues resolved but not all yet, may not be possible with old other ECUs

ok, awarded, then I only change the 157 from B4 to B5 and then I activate the Etm with the witech

Tnx a lot

No You need earlier right hub as well part number compatible with aa/ACP option

Looking to possibly get a 2017 or 2019 QV. If I go the 17 route I’m going to want CarPlay/AA. Is this the best option we’ve currently got or is there a better solution for the US market?

Vin replace does not help, on unlocking, still PIN needs to be obtained what is very problematic and they say now it requires original VIN of ETM (not sure if they check it against serial number from some logs or is just obstacle to make harder for people to apply?). VIN replace only helps on if you have doubts on legal source of ETM or just want to have on scan only components showing your VIN, then some replace VIN, but ETM after such change overy quickly back asking for PIN.

#304 ·
I replied to Duetto156,somehow skipped your post (was first on new page which I must missed). Your experience with getting PIN looks like no problem, mine is different, dealer say Italy rejected, they wanted also original radio VINs (I didn't bother to read them no matter I tested/updated my units earlier, so gave them VIN of real car compatible with headunit part numbers - I applied for 5 ETMs in the time). I know that ENG Custom also has issues with getting PIN codes sometimes, similar rejection reason he heard like mac address of ETM given does not match VIN of original car. I know also a few guys in Poland who some failed some succeeded, never it was easy path, always it was battle with FCA Italy and need of getting involved somebody from higher FCA management in Poland, multiple reprompts and 3 months of patience.
Of course VIN of first car can be read from ETM with e.g. MES assuming that it helps with process. Problem is one, we buy random ETMs on ebay and similar services. Maybe in past Giulia/Stelvios were not stolen, so was no risk you buy dodgy ETM, but nowadays we hear a lot of stolen FCA cars, so potential risk exist - these parts are at the end sold somewhere. Here VIN replace helps on cutting possible issues in case somebody checks in future (not sure if current Witech2 tool checks any stolen car databases when it does scan)

About DAB aerial. Take care, the ETM puts 5V phantom power to the antenna cable. I tested 3 antennas and the best one is this (available on Amazon here in EU, not sure in the U.S.: Eightwood EA AN7523
Fundamental is to connect the ground short cable that sticks out of the antenna body. If it's too short or you don't have any suitable ground around, then you can weld a longer cable to it and bring the ground where it's better. Also the 3M tape on it it's not that sticky on the aerial body, so I removed it, degreased the aerial body, put some 3M primer 94 on and used a 12.5mm 3M VHB 5952 tape I've around.
I tried also this one but the performance were much much lower, which is normal considering it's not amplified: https://www.amazon.it/Eightwood-Antenna-Adattatore-Automobile-Parabrezza/dp/B073WRF85X/
Oh, you also need an adaptor, SMB male to Fakra female (like this: tomzz Audio 1500-042 Adattatore per antenna Fakra femmina (f) a smb maschio (m) : Amazon.it: Elettronica ) to connect the antenna to the ETM.
And, of course, enable the DAB receiver through proxy settings with MultiEcuScan.

Hi guys, i'm from Italy and i have a Stelvio 2.2 diesel 2018.
I have the 2nd generation of infotainement with sw version 090 and only 1 USB port under armrest.
I understod that the only configuration that Is fully compatible with the activation of AA/ACP Is sw 056 or newer and double USB under armrest.
Considering that i'm looking only to AA, It seems that my configuration should be enough but it's not really clear.
A friend of mine has witech and we tried to activate AA but the answer Is Always "setting inactive".
Searching on the web i've found this forum and i've discovered 2 things:

1- probably i Need to make a proxi alignement before the activation via witech
2- trying ti activate AA without proxi it's possibile that i've blocked this possibility

Now i'm here asking help about this situation.
I'm available ti buy MES with E327 but my fear Is that i've blocked the possibility to activate AA.

Can someone could help me?

Thanks in Advance

Sorry to say this but your etm is doomed in terms of aa/acp, you already spoiled it trying to activate without amending proxi. One time inwctive status stays forever.

I cant advise on hub. Some tine ago i keatned that previoudly activated etms for aa/acp work with old hubs, but not sure if it is mandatory for activation or not. I never risk when retrofitted/activated aa/acp so car was fully prepared hub part number eith listrd aa/acp code and proxi amended and that is way which i know works.

3 years ago my friend did mistaje like you and he tried a lot and failed to activate aa/acp, he ended with aa/acp box instead
