I am using an cheap start stop disable harness on my 2020 Giulia that was about $20 on Ebay. So far so good a month later. The harness even came with small pry tool to undo the light switch control unit from the dash. I do not know why anyone would need to spend nearly 5x as much for a more expensive option for a similar device just to shut off the start stop function.

I've had the Stuff4Cars version for over 4 years with no problems. Back then it was the only one available; the Chinese versions came along later. Time will tell how they last.

^^ I will let the forum know how long my cheap $18 version last. To be honest, I bet that the Stuff4Cars version is made in a China factory as well if not the same factory as the no name knockoff I purchased.:)

The Stuff4Cars name even sounds like one of those weird China made product names.

If a defeat device was installed it would function in every dna mode. without the device, auto start/stop should function regardless of which mode is selected. If it’s not working, there’s some other background issue.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe it's just the way I drive the car, not really allowing the function to work. As I mentioned, I get no warnings, etc.

This auto transmission equipped car is certainly/really different in how it reacts/drives as compared to my 164, which I've driven for 30 DD years. So far, my wife (who drives an 89 Milano from new) and I dislike the transmission and how it works in the car. Our old stickshift reactions must be different enough, lol.

Ok, went through did some checking on the start/stop function. It definitely didn't cut and restart the engine at traffic lights.

First thing I decided was that the battery was probably low, the car having been sitting in a lot for quite a while before we bought it. So, hooked up a trickle charger for a couple of days, and the light on it finally changed from solid red to solid green. All charged up now.

Then I took the car out for a drive, and now the start/stop function works as it should. This indicates to me that it can indeed act as "a canary in the coal mine" as you say, telling me that the battery is low.

The has always been running just as it should, with no warnings.

I tossed the OEM battery after it was “charged, passed ‘the test’ “ by the dealer after it failed on me.replaced with interstate AGM
And it hasnt failed me. I do use the MOPAR CTEK on it occasionally

ditch OEM batteries
Why do people insist on keeping those pieces of crap?

Yeah, I might get there. I'd never heard of Varta. Where are they made?

Ok,found this: VARTA batteries are made in Germany, Romania, Indonesia, and China. VARTA's headquarters are in Ellwangen, Germany.

Which Interstate battery did you buy? From Costco or other outlet (I've read that Costco's Interstate are not quite as good as real Interstate?).

I think I will buy one of those lithium emergency start batteries, good for a couple of starts if needed.
