Yesterday I was trying to installed the SGW bypass so I could use MultiECUscan. But the harness was so tightly plugged in, I couldn’t get it out and didn’t want to risk damage. I know there’s a tab on each plug and I was able to get one off but the 12 pin was just too snug. Anyone got any tips/methods of removal that you’ve found will help? Last thing I want to do is damage that wiring harness.

While many have had decent luck with Ali Express, I prefer to buy electronics components from verified good dealers, such as Alfissimo who is a long time supporter of Alfa Romeo and our Giulia's and Stelvios.

Every 2019+ Giulia/Stelvio needs an SGW Bypass. I am unsure of the dates for the MY18 models, but yes, you need one.
If the Ali one specifically says it won't work for yours, don't buy it.

Need help please - trying to find the SGW. RHD MY22 Quad. I have removed the sunglasses compartment ( 1 torx screw and trim tool) but i cant seem to see the SGW. Please see photos. Help appreciated. There's a metal box mounted vertically which seens to have some coloured connectors on top but they look small and up very high. The connectors on the far right are inaccessible because of the silver metal bracing strut.

Just did a search for RHD SGW and found two threads that confirm that the SGW is to the left of the steering column on a RHD vehicle.

This post says explicitly that it is to the left of the steering column:

This thread has a video posted by the same person that show his SGW on the left side of his steering column, not the right.

If you view that video on YouTube, read the comments. Someone asks if it is to the left of the column and he confirms that it is indeed to the left of the column on a RHD vehicle.

So on LHD car, SGW is right of the steering column. But on a RHD car, the SGW is to the left of the column.

Eureka!! You, Sir, are a gentleman! It seems to be on the LEFT side. Up high. Can't be seen from below unless cables are pulled to the side (and i had to cut a cable tie that was in the way). I can feel the little plastic tab to push in but cant get them out (index finger a bit sore). Will try some leverage etc later.
Again, thank-you!

Had another look this morning and found it. So here’s a bit of a guide for people also stuck with a 2019 RHD.

1. remove the coin box by unscrewing a torx screw located in the hole where the coin box latches. Once removed pry the coin box unit away from the main dash. It should come away from the tip. There’s a locating pin at the bottom of the unit that holds the lower part in.

2. Remove the steering column shroud with two torx screws underneath the steering wheel. Pry the top and bottom apart. I used my fingers to separate.

3. roll the driver seat back as far as possible and adjust the steering wheel out (towards driver) and up . Kneel down outside the car and look at the steering column through the hole where the column adjust is. To the left side and back from the cylindrical part of the column is the sgw. The harness is hanging down and the ports accessible. In the pictures below I have my fingers in the sgw.

when starting the car after you will get all the warning. Ignore. Rotate full lock left then full lock right. Return wheel to centre and switch engine off. Wait 30 seconds and start. I more errors

You Could get away without removing the coin box but it helped me when looking and feeling.
If you have small wrists you could also get your hand in without removing the shroud. I can just buy for the sake of 2 screws and lacerating my wrists it’s easier to take off.

If you're not in a rush, maybe end of April will be looking better to meet up. Though, no promises I could help...and I won't be responsible if something breaks. :censored:

I do recommend getting 2 pairs of the extension cables, 2 for each connector for the SGW bypass. This way you don't have to worry about reaching so far up into the column to install/remove the bypass. I got these: Extension Leads (for SGW Bypass)-Pair (10"/18" Length)

Whether you should leave the SGW in place depends on the relationship with your dealer.
My tech at the dealership knows it is installed; he installed it for me.

I have had MOPAR extended warranty repairs (e.g., sunroof cable, oil pump solenoid, etc.), performed on the car after SGW was installed without any hassle.

I could see if you were using MES on the car and something happened where the car had to be towed in, and the dealership wasn't a dealership you patronized, where there might be an issue. As @WoodmanMN said, "I have seen no reports of any warranty work denied for having one installed." It's a gray area.

Yes, the classic "I am cool with the dealer so they turn an blind eye to my mods" reply.:)

No offense, but I have been reading that reply for decades(literally) in every "can a mod void a extended warranty?" thread in every forum I have been part of.

There are always members bragging about how their local dealer is cool and even installed the aftermarket mods whether is was an air intake or upgraded turbo. However, in the real world(for most owners) most dealers are not that "cool" and will report the modification to the extended warranty company who may or may not foot the bill if an major repair is needed based on the modification.
