Hi All,
out of frustration and a need to vent, I decided to share my Giulia buying experience. Of course, YMMV, and I ignored the negative reviews as well, which is the biggest mistake I made in 2020 (so far).

When I first started shopping for Giulias, I looked in just one city in Texas, (Houston) But wanting to compare options, I expanded my search to Dallas and Austin as well. Vroom had listed the Giulia I bought as a car in Dallas TX, and this was my first time dealing with vroom as well. I purchased this specific one due to it coming with the sport package and being priced cheaper than the similar ones available, although not by much. I figured it was worth it for a 4 hour drive to Dallas. Once I call them, and apply for financing and got approval, and started paperwork and discussing how I will pick up the car, that is when the salesperson told me, “oh the car is in California”. They just list these cars anywhere for advertisement purposes. I was pretty irritated as they should have explained that first. I thought to myself, whatever not a big deal because the sales rep said I would get the car within 10-14 days of today. (The day I started paperwork with him). This is where all the issues started. That was Over 15 days ago, and my car is “still at inspection” and hasn’t even been shipped. No delivery updates, no estimated timeframe. from the moment I paid for the car, they’ve been giving me the runaround, and that is what really upsets me. I can understand delays, but to straight up lie to me for a sale is messed up and wrong. I work in sales, and this is a heavily frowned upon tactic to close customers. (Unrealistic expectations). Not only that, customer support for any other department takes forever, and they are a lot more rude. I tried reaching out to my sales specialist but can not get to him at all now. Multiple voicemails and nothing. Everyone keeps telling me “you’ll get an update and ship date by xxx date for sure” and then it keeps changing over and over and over, and I get no updates. I also got an email this morning that said the car has been delayed. If I knew this is what I would have had to deal with, I would have happily spent an extra $1k - $2k to buy the car from somewhere else and not deal with the hassle. The refund process apparently takes 1-2 months as well, so I’m SOL at this point. The reviews for the company are also horrible; Vroom Review 2020 | ConsumerAffairs

I’m excited beyond belief for the Giulia but also so very sad and upset because the car could take another few weeks to arrive. I read about another Giulia owner who’s car took over 1 month to arrive. Fuck vroom.
I even started ordering mods for the Giulia in anticipation for the car, and now I just feel like a sucker at this point.

Sorry to hear about your problems.Another thing to consider is that from many threads on this forum a make or break element of happiness with these cars is good dealer support, at least when you first get the car, You won't get that if they are sourcing it from the other side of the country. Also, there seem to be quite a few looking for 1 year old used cars. In my opinion, unless it is a dealer demonstrator etc , that would be a good way to buy somebody else's lemon or patched up crashed vehicle. Who else sells a car they are happy with after a year?

Very true. I also look into the carfax and see what the cause of return was. This persons lease was only 2 years and ended. Low mileage too. Only reason I bought. Lol. From what I can tell, the dealers around where I’ll be moving to, are decent. I wanted the QV but would have realistically needed to wait another 2 years to get. If all is well with the giulia in the next 2 years, I definitely plan to upgrade to the QV. Always wanted an M3, but the QV is cheap enough to where I would much rather get that.

We spent almost a whole weekday at the dealer checking out the various optioned cars they had available before leasing. Ours was a 27 month term. I think Alfa or financing did an excellent job creating such a short term lease. If you ended up unhappy with the car you'd only be stuck with it for 2 1/4 years....

In CA they aren't allowed to sell you a vehicle that is not physically present. (If I'm wrong I apologize up front.) You order one and put a deposit then wait until it arrives before the purchase is completed. What happens to the deposit if you back out? It could be returned or kept. Might be a good idea to see if TX has a similar rule...

Yeah, being in Texas, they advertised the car as being in Texas, and didn’t disclose it until the paperwork started. Even then, I can wait, but I hate being lied too. Car delayed again as of this morning, and literally every person I talk to says something different. Apparently now car is just starting to go through their inspection. When someone else this morning said, “I’ll call the carrier to get delivery info”. Would never recommend and would never do business with them. Carvana though pricier, at least has logistics handled. I’m worried about their techs touching the Alfa, as I don’t want them to mess something up and do some cheap oil change. Would rather just take it to dealership and spend the money to fix any issues.

I sell Alfa's and have sold Ferrari in the past- one thing I can't stand is when sales people do this to customers. Our cars take time to come from overseas, and the best thing you can do is keep the customer informed in the process; or make them part of it for the experience. I feel awful you had to go through this...luckily the car will make you happy!

Thank you for being a good sales person. I work in sales as well and to literally lie to customers is just a huge blow. Maybe I should have known, but I mean, the lies were so simple I actually believed it! I’m really hoping I get the car soon and that it’s in good shape. Ready to put this whole ordeal behind me. Definitely never buying online EVER again. I’ll happily spend the extra money to save myself the headache.

Out of curiosity, is Vroom charging you any shipping fee? I'm on the east coast and one thing that Vroom does is charge $599 shipping. So of course, if I wanted to return the car I have to forfeit $599. A lot of cars with Carvana have free shipping. So at least I can truly "test own" the car and walk away.

That being said, I have a deposit on a car with Carvana and a Giulia with Vroom. I'm probably going to cancel the Giulia because if there's anything wrong with it, I will lose my $599! If Vroom doesn't charge you a shipping fee then it seems like you can't lose, though. Unless you really need a car right now.

Yes, $599 fee on every single car. It’s not realistic to “test drive” these cars. You essentially have to buy it and hope for the best. Believe me when I say this. I wish I would have listened to the reviews and went with my gut. It has been a pretty horrible experience so far. I can’t stand being lied too by people who will say anything to get a sale. You’re probably looking at 3-4 weeks realistic T/A time for delivery, + a credit hit every time. Not to mention the $599 loss. They will market a car as near you, but it won’t be. It’s spread out throughout the country.
I also sold my car to use as a downpayment since they wouldn’t let me use it as a trade in last minute (after doing paperwork) because the title was under my moms name, even though she did the proper paperwork for it. So I don’t have a car.
As I’m typing this I see you already put a down payment. If I could do it all over again, I would never have went with vroom. Vroom has a LOT of bad reviews, and on some websites their reviews are below 2 star average. They lied to me about literally everything. Not to mention, there could be something wrong with the car, which is what I’m worried about. I’m just starting to think that maybe the car they sold me is a buyback and didn’t disclose it. I’m going to call and find out more info. Would it show up on carfax if it was a buyback?
Good luck with the cars. Basically, vroom = gambling, and seems an overwhelming majority of the customers have negative experiences. You’re essentially leaving it to chance whether you get screwed over or not. Just that concept alone would make me not want to do business with a company so damn shady and bad lol.

The other problem is a lot of Vroom and Carvana cars come with only one key. A second key is easily an extra $300-500 at the dealership!!

But you really have very few options during the Covid era. I'm not interested in negotiating a price inside a dealership with anybody, nor am I interested in going on a bunch of test drives with salesmen, etc.

I know this might become a theme post COVID but I don’t think I’ll be able to jump aboard.. for me, I have to see the car physically, feel it, smell it (plenty of people smoke) etc and I would be slightly stressed with the amount money involved. It’s a bit like buying a house with just seeing the photos. Just a personal opinion - I know many people love this buying option and I’m sure it will become popular given the current climate.

Yes, carvana generally is a better experience due to them having their process down to a T. All the timing will be on point, and you won’t have to constantly go back and forth with delays/missing paperwork/ registration not coming for a few months/etc etc. but, you do pay a premium with it. With vroom, they literally lie to you, no one knows what’s going on with your car, everyone gives you a different answer, car will most likely be delayed, and your registration might be delayed by 1-2 months and it will give you a lot of headaches. From the reviews/pics I’ve seen, the cars could also come dirty, and there could be a bad smell inside the car. That’s the gamble you take. If you’re going to do online purchasing, I definitely would say carvana will be a better experience overall rather than vroom. The money you might save with vroom is 100% not worth the hassle/inconvenience/stress and financial loss you could be taking. Going through vroom is purely gambling. Russian roulette of car purchasing. Lol. I’m so stressed and upset from this experience. I’m not even going to call them anymore. If the car doesn’t arrive this week and I don’t get a final delivery date by Monday, I’m going to ask for a refund and go buy another Giulia in person and get this over with. I got 3-4 inquiries on my credit from this, and I’ll have lost money from car/rentals and not being able to trade my car in, and would have lost around $1k or more but, I’ll take it as a lesson learned. Sometimes you gota just deal with those shitty hands you’re dealt

Sorry this happened to you. I love my Giulia. I go to dealerships just to avoid this kind of hassle. Essence Alfa Romeo is the best.

Got my Giulia from VROOM last year. Sorry to hear you are having problems...The only issue I had was delivery date was around 4 July, so ended up getting it on 5 or 6 July, instead.

I did a nationwide search on cars.com and autotrader. I only looked for new cars and found my Giulia in Iowa. I flew out from Seattle, to a small town airport and got a room, the next day the dealer picked me up at the hotel, drove me to the dealership and I was out the door in an hour.

I had gotten the final price before flying out so I could get a cashiers check cut in the correct amount. I did a test drive and the car was as advertised. I spent the next 36 hours driving and/or sleeping until I pulled into my driveway.

My wife is a flight attendant so the flight was free, but I saved $20,000 of MSRP and it was the least expensive one in the nation. If I had to pay a few hundred for a flight, it still saved me money and I got some serious seat time to get to know the car. (I put 1,700 miles on it to get it home but it was well worth it.)

I definitely am not opposed to doing that either. Vroom advertised the car as near me, and even though on their website it says you can pick up, they told me I can’t pick up. Every rep contradicts literally everything else another rep says. 2 days ago they said it shipped from California to Texas, this morning they said it’s still in California for inspection, then the supervisor said it’ll arrive by Saturday, then I got an email saying another delay and that they haven’t shipped it yet because they can’t find a carrier, and now the “supervisor” said it’ll deliver tomorrow. Nothing they’ve said has been consistent or true. The car was supposed to be here late last week/early week, and TODAY. So we shall see what tomorrow brings! Lol.

I bought with vroom as well. Hasn’t been seamless. Mine arrive about a week early, but had clearly been detailed by an amateur. Not a huge deal because I was going to detail it myself anyways, but it is a bit of a pain fixing hologrammed paint. It’s so substantial that I’m taking it to a pro to do a full paint correction. Waiting on a credit from them becuase they’ll be footing some of that bill.

They also did not disclose the front bumper had been replaced. Expecting a credit for that since it was clearly in a fender bender. Dealer inspected it and that was the only thing they noted be of concern really so I decided I’d keep the car.

Emailed them about my concerns several times and they go weeks at a time with no response.
Thinking I likely won’t buy from them again, but we’ll see how they come through on getting me some credits back.

Overall the car was a good deal and is mechanically sound so I’m not too upset.

According to what I’ve heard from other people, Carvana might be a better option. I’ve heard only positive reviews from my friends and the people I know.
I’ve heard bad stories about Carvana as well. In my area the state suspended their rights to sell for a period of time because they were not processing registration and title paperwork in a timely fashion. They sold my niece a car that was defective on delivery and left her stranded on the side of the road.

I would not buy a car from either Vroom or Carvana. They both have serious issues with the authorities in my state for the reasons stated above. The only car I've bought new without first seeing it, was through a dealer to dealer transfer. The exact spec I wanted was at a dealer hundreds of miles away. They shipped it to my local dealer, I inspected it and test drove it before signing the contract. Used cars really need to be seen in person, IMHO. Good Luck!

My 2.0 was purchased from Vroom and other than the buying process taking longer than expected, the car came as described and was great while I owned it.
