MES PC version comes already with manual.
Also worth checking what kind of adapter is used as there are a lot of those generic ELM327 adapters with fake chips inside.
But if it connects just sometimes proxi won't complete on first try I wouldn't worry - had many situations when one car makes it on first go, and another had to do 4 or even 5 tries to complete it. At first it was frustrating, now I don't even care about it.

One thing about the manual is that the install steps are a bit unclear under the ELM 327 section. The manual starts with the Interface section and goes into the KL/VagCom interface first. The Installation Notes describes a driver install and the port / latency settings. After that, it goes into the ELM 327 interface with similar installation notes, but no mention of updating the latency timer.

Once I switched PCs, everything worked with the port speed set to 38,400 and the latency set to 1 (both computers were set to this). The connection failed once afterwards though. I checked all the settings after that happened and noted that the latency setting had reverted to 16 for some reason. After changing it back to 1, MES worked fine again.

The manual is pretty comprehensive and I read it a few times before starting the work. I'm not a tech guy, but I'm wondering if this latency step should have been added ELM 327 section. I could be wrong though. Hopefully someone more tech savvy than I can weigh in.

Edit @shpuncik ... I love your quote!

If you have multiple USB ports and use them all then latency has to be set on each one separately.
Also with connection problems worth a try to rise latency - instead of 1 set it to 2 - sometimes helps.

Hey @JeFizz & Channel

TLDR: Every other time I toggle race mode I have a few errors thrown and after 4-5 engine on/off I can successfully toggle race mode but then it repeats to failing again.

I've completed the race mode install w/ the well crafted instructions but after successfully executing the proxialignment & changes, when I toggle race mode I see a CEL, disabled engine start/stop, and drive mode stuck in N. Error codes U0415-00 & U142D-00.

There is a pattern here where once it fails to toggle race mode, after 4-5 engine on/off the error codes clear and the next race mode toggle will be successful. After the engine is turned off, the next race mode toggle will fail and the cycle continues.

Parameters of the install:
  • Multiecuscanner 5.2 registered
  • installed sgw bypass (successful reads & writes)
  • type 2 race mode
  • 2022 veloce giulia in the US

Me and @twrbo are seeing the same codes so if anyone else can chime in or help that'll be immense.

TIA 💪

And now, so am I with my MY24 vehicle.

Hi guys I have a 2023 veloce 2.0 and have already gotten the necessary stuff to do race mode but a bit hesitant after reading the threads here .
1. Has anyone successfully done race mode reliably on newer Alfa's ?
2. Do I need to replace the dns knob since it's 2023
3. Can I use the multi scan iPhone version with a Bluetooth dongle ?
4. Has anyone done this with LAUNCH X431 PROS V+ Elite programmer or similar. From what I see no sgw bypass needed with this programer

I'm not the best person to answer this since I have the 2.9 but I believe:
  1. Yes I think so, check the race mod thread and see the signature of people who have done it to find their MY
  2. Yes. You need the dial with race option on it
  3. No, I believe you need laptop so you can connect the grey and blue adapter cables
  4. I believe sgw is needed for everything with mid MY18s and up, unless the device has a bypass built into it

Yes the x431 has sgw bypass built in
