Is this tire toast? (Lime Rock Content)

Just finished a track day yesterday at Lime Rock. I did a trial with the Lime Rock Drivers Club. Only 7 cars on track for the entire day so about 3.5 hours of on track time and I'm continuing to build confidence. My instructor also got 3 laps in as well.

Pic below is my FRONT RIGHT tire. So is it toast?

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. 255/35/19. First "session" went a little long and hot pressures got up to 44 or so before I came in and adjusted to 38 or so for the remainder of the day on the fronts.

Let me know

those are fine... the 4s will start chunking off the shoulder soon if you track it more, so beware.

i'm curious how u manage to do that to front right on LRP.
LRP is left heavy track with only 1 left hander on turn 3.
i'm pretty sure ur instructor have warned u but only thing u need to be cautious is
making sure ur wheel is straight going uphill after noname straight
and not taking foot off on last turn with downhill or u can kiss barrier.

I know! That's kinda why I called it out that it was front right! Front left and rears definitely got a workout but nothing noteworthy like this.

This was my third time doing lime rock. I got slightly sideways on the left hander which required me to make a correction once but outside of that one time nothing else I can think of.

This event was by far the best instruction that I've gotten to date and overall just a very different experience going with the drivers club rather than a typical session based HPDE.

I will admit though I got humbled by a spec mx-5. Turned out the driver had previously won 24 hours of Daytona. I passed him once but man he had my number in the corners..

They heat up because of tread squirm which is caused by too much tread. I used to race in a spec class that required street tires. We'd take brand new Yokohama 008s (some guys ran BFGs) and we'd have them shaved down to less tread than you have on that tire. It was worth a 1/2 to a second a lap so you have no issue with that tire. Less tread gives you a more stable feel. It's just getting good. I'd race on those in anything but a downpour or lots of standing water.

That is normal ware. Looks like you drove ‘em well. Just remember to check hot pressures and adjust as necessary to keep them in the high 30 psi range. Chalk the sidewalls as well, to see how much you’re rolling over. If you’re rolling the sidewalls and have the correct pressure, get a track focused alignment (ie, more negative camber) or upgrade the suspension if necessary. Otherwise, you’ll chew through tires like there’s no tomorrow (ask me how I know 😅).
