Okay, here is what I've found: On 2017 vehicles there are no values after byte 157. On 2018 and up vehicles byte 157 changes to a 31. Two values are put in the 00 field dead space afterwards, which i suppose is left for later procsi options to be added.

On a 2017 vehicle: Change byte 157 to 31. Change byte 161 to 03. Change byte 163 to 02.

This will allow AA,if it is set to ON in the ETM to work properly. I need someone to change a 2017 to these byte values. If I am correct and if the radio has not been locked with AA OFF, on AA offline activation with WiTech it should allow ON to be set. If someone can confirm this will allow ON to be set it will eliminate the shuffling I had to do with ETMs to set the AA value to on.

MultiscanECU would not procsi the transmission or ETM on my vehicle with this new version and the odometer flashed(probably because of it being NAFTA versions of the latest software). I had to run a PROCSI alignment with witech which reads the procsi off of the BCM and writes to all other modules. Then, since it is written to the ABS I had to run the ABS configuration test which must be run after an ABS procsi.

Is someone can confirm that this will allow you to set the one-time flag in the ETM to "on", I will do a full write up with pictures.

*one caveat though, this is for US models, you may want to confirm that after byte 157(which should be factory set to 30, there are no other bytes set).

If worse comes to worse and you screw something up, you can always have the dealer perform a vehicle restore with the witech scan tool which will download an re-write all procsi's to factory settings. There will probably be a charge though, cash or donuts.

Anyone know if by opening the ETM to get access to the circuit board, are there jumpers, or maybe a simple solder will reset or unlock the unit? just trying to throw some ideas out there.:)
I actually took one apart to look. Old Magneti units used to have a keep-alive battery. I was hoping the new one did also, no luck. I also tried jumping what looks like a fuse insert in the main connector, also with no luck. The unit does come apart very easily though into base components.

he does not know what VIN is like in NAFTA
but in EMEA 10 position of VIN is year
J is 2018
H is 2017
if is J and have ETM mV 055 or higher
Change proxy
Activate with witech
Done

The ETM read the giulia VIN if VIN is 2017 lock OFF
If VIN is 2018 lock ON

You need to write the procsi with multiscanECU to the BCM and ETM, and then use witech offline activation to switch to AA ON. After that the radio needs to be turned off by unplugging it or disconnecting the battery the powering back on. Under settings/infotainment it will show Android auto at the bottom of the menu.

I can try this on my 2017, but do I need the 2018 ETM installed on the car? I don't know if you seen the thread linked below. I bought an eBay ETM from a 2018 with 051. SW on it. But it was locked and i was not able to get the 4 digit code. So I uninstalled it and put the original ETM back in the car. When teh 2018 ETM was installed in the car, I updated the SW to 056. So I am guessing this is a unit that never had the AA/ACP activated.

I've found that when the initial procsi is run the ETM takes the vin of the vehicle from somewhere. If you install it on another vehicle it will not work and will ask for a security code. Someone installed the radio you bought in a vehicle before and probably ran a procsi. This causes it to lock when installed in your vehicle. Unfortunately, this code is not available through Mopar channels. That radio is pretty much useless, you can still communicate with it through a scan tool, but all inputs are disabled.

Would be nice to start a separate thread on enabling AA/CarPlay. The general SW update thread has kind of been hijacked.
Done! Sorry about the hijacking! Anyone interested in continuing the discussion, see the below thread:

Back to software updates. I have a NAFTA MY2018 that was originally 051, eventually upgraded to 056 for CarPlay. I just got upgraded to 085 to try to resolve the radio restart problems!

  • I do have a noticeably larger backup camera.
  • I do not have a setting for Easy Exit.
  • I haven't tested whether the park sensors are less annoying yet.
  • Haven't had this software long enough to notice whether the radio restarts.

I was at the dealer today but their systems were down so they couldn't check on updating for me :(

to show easy exit in menu you need to do small mod in proxi byte 72 to AB at least in case of my Giulia that added tge feature all right

park sensors is separate from radio, there was update in spring time to PAM module and eg the sensors deactivate when you are not in D o R gear what makes sense - no stiupid beeping while you just turn on ignition

Took my car in today to have my winters put on; Miller motorcars in CT. While I was there, I reported issues of radio rebooting and Sirius XM expiration error messages. I mentioned tsb: 08-081-19 and yet I still couldn't get my software updated.

The SA said he had all his guys check and had his manager check and nothing showed in the system for my vin. Even when I spoke with @AlfaRomeoCares on the phone 2 weeks prior to taking the car in to ensure I'd have an update waiting for me, there still wasn't one available.

I'm really at a loss as to why it's so difficult to have our software updated, when you can argue that features like the larger backup camera and disabling of the seat sliding back on entry and exit are safety features.

Curious. Have you asked them what your sales code is? I see you have a Quad, like me.

In my case, I meet all of the criteria on that TSB.... except for the sales code. The TSB calls out sales code RAN. I have an RANS assigned to my unit.

I had all my sales codes looked up and sure enough there’s an “S” appended on to every one of them. They’re all the unique 3 characters you’d expect plus a “S”.

I don’t know the purpose of this. But this will keep you from being eligible for any updates they put out without your sales code listed exactly as assigned. I asked @AlfaRomeoCares about this and they advised they have no way of getting me an answer. It’s super frustrating. I can’t even get radio presets... much less the newer version of the software that’s supposed to fix reboots.

An interesting note: the parts catalog doesn’t have any sales code that has an S appended to it. IE: if they replaced your radio, they would replace it with a “RAN” unit and not a “RANS” unit.

I’ve been told that updating the software is possible, but that it’ll have to be done manually and not prompted by dealer tools. No service techs at my dealership are cool enough to work through that process though.
