Yes, Right bank always has a sticky lifter. Redesign of internals and oil canister was suppose to help but does not.

With Selenia Quadrifoglio Oil (Or Pakelo oil) and some of the Viscosity Modifier, I can leave my car for a much longer time and not have the lifter stick.

Motul Comp. Also has Ester oils but I have found that the above works the best to solve the problem.
I just added the Pakelo viscosity modifier to my Quad, the stuff had the viscosity of molasses on a cold day.

@Alfissimo : Don't tell me I should only use it with Pakelo oil, I used Motul...

Yes it does and this is why you add it HOT. Then idle for 10 mins after. It is made for any oil. This is all under the description. ;) So not I would never tell you to only use with Pakelo oil. It's a Viscosity Modifier to replace 1/4 to 1/2 a liter of oil. Whole liter if you want 50 weight. I like 50 weight myself. ;)

Awesome. I followed the instructions, except for the 10 min idle. I took it for a 20 minute drive after putting 1/2 the can in.

Hi everyone, I own a late 2021 Giulia QV. I bought the car in Germany with the official warranty at 28,000 km, and it’s now at 31,000 km. The car is completely stock, no remap or modifications, except for a module to control the exhaust valves.

At the end of June it had the scheduled 30,000 km service (done on time, not mileage), where the auxiliary belt, spark plugs, oil, filter, etc. were replaced.

Since that service, I’ve noticed a ticking/knocking noise coming from the right bank on cold start, but only after the car has been sitting unused for a couple of days. Once the engine warms up, the noise fades away or disappears completely. If I drive it daily, I don’t hear it.

They used the correct oil (Selenia QV 5W-40), the service was done at an official dealership, and the oil level is perfect (checked both on the dipstick and in the service menu). I even took it back to the dealership, but they didn’t find anything unusual.

On the advice of a trusted mechanic, I added Metallube and a specific additive for noisy lifters, but the ticking is still there. It just doesn’t sound right to me — more like a diesel than this special engine.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas what could be causing it?

Here’s a YouTube link with a video from the engine bay where the noise can clearly be heard:

Thanks in advance!

Watergate actuator arm is showing wear and vibrating?

I also own a 21 Qv. car used everyday here in sunny South Africa. I generally warm engine for a minute or two before I drive off. First 5 or 10 minutes is gentle…..have a heard a ticking noise now and then but after warm up no noise at all. Noise is also after car has been parked for a week. There is however a big difference between a tick( which I think is electronic) and a knock ( which is mechanical)……needs to be checked out

Hello. I hope my experience is nothing like yours will be. I'm on my second QV. The first was a 2017. I heard a ticking sound from the engine while driving fairly aggressively. The result was a compete valve and engine failure, causing the vehicle to "tick" to a complete stop. Fortunately it was under warranty. The dealer who replaced the engine showed me the associated Alfa invoice which was right about $46,000 for a replacement engine in 2018. Circumstances are much different than what you describe. Hopefully that's not in your future.

No problems whatsoever with the 2023 model I drive now.

I would go with 50W oil Farad. What oils do you have access to there? If you are afraid to not use GH2 spec oil, or Selenia, if you have access to the Pakelo Viscosity modifier, use a whole can in place of 1L of oil. Closest I could find is:

ALKHIAR ALAMTHAL COMPANY
Beer Osta Milad RD, Tripoli - LIBYA

Otherwise I can send some to you.
