Giulia Quadrifoglio; NOT what I was expecting...

Drove one yesterday for the first time. As a past Alfa owner, I was expecting mediocre quality, lots of enthusiasm, good driving dynamics, and a pretty face.

Well, after sitting in it, driving it, and the afterthought of what I had just experienced and witnessed, I was totally wrong...

Holy Mother of Christ: it's a Ferrari F430 (which I also owned years ago) but better quality, better looking, and almost on equal in driving dynamics. Completely blown away!!

I believe I have finally sold (fingers crossed) my brand new, overly priced, overly hyped, pretentious Cayenne Turbo. Boring. SUV in and out-- can drive like a car; but it ain't no saloon. Nice try, Porsche.

After leaving Alfa in 1993 (about the same time Alfa also left us), I switched to MB and then Porsche: Boxter, Cayman, a couple of 911, and Cayenne Turbo. Fine vehicles, no doubt. But today, Porsche comes up short for the $$ they ask. I am done with new cars, and I am done with Porche in general.

Driving the QV yesterday woke me up to the fact that, one, you don't need to always buy new; and, two, you can get something that hits you right in the heart and soul with a lot less money. The fact that I enjoy driving my daughter's Mini Cooper S more than my Cayenne was my first hint.

I am not in search for an Alfa QV because I want to save money; I am in it for the love of what I think is one of the finest driving vehicles on the road. Period.

Search begins. Althought, the one I drove yesterday is high on my list!!!

You'd be surprised to find that even the 2.0 can elicit those reactions too. Just less power than the QV.

It's a fantastic car once you learn the in's and out's of ownership.

Couldn't have said it better. I don't buy new any more. Take your time - it took me 6 months to find mine and it was shipped from one side of the country to the other. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Good luck!

It's Special for sure.

What did you own in 1993 when you left alfa?

I had a Cayenne GTS once too. Meh... The Stelvio QV is way better, faster and more nimble. I only admit the fit/finish of porsche is very nice but I did not like owning a porsche and likely never will again.

Good luck with the search...

For a more raw QV 17-19 for dual injection 20+ (little more refined). Both are great. I prefer early cars but I would buy a later one too.

PS, we are never into Alfa to save money.... ;)

I am going to go see a 2018 and 2019 with clean carfax and low milaege. Not looking for a beaty queen. Looking for everything else. One question: the earlier models had Alcantare on seats. Do they hold up well? The 2018 on pics looks a little worn. 2022 I drove yesterday was all leather and looked new.

You got me concerned with the threat title and the first two lines of your post. Then, I read what I was going to write you back "... Holy Mother of Christ. I's a Ferrari F430 but better quality, better looking, and almost on equal in driving dynamics. Completely blown away ...". And I would add, it's an engineering masterpiece dream car. Hope you get one soon.

One more question: would you guys trust a flatbed to deliver me the car? I have seen the one I want and drove it. But I have concerns with delivery. When I sold my Porsche 997, new owner sent a truck to pick up. They scratched the front lip while loading. In a 997 it's only a rubber lip, in a QV it's a 6k carbon splitter. I have the choice to picking it up myself (about 3.5 hrs away).

I bought my 2021 QV in March. Still had 2 months of warranty left on it. It was immaculate.
I drive it multiple times a day as it's a family car, and I always feel like I'm getting into something special for every drive.
The interior is a little rattly on the rough PA roads, broken pavement is annoying. So it's not as well put together as an Audi, but the drive is incredible, and the ergonomics are far better.
I say go pick it up yourself if you can and enjoy the drive home.

Update: Test drove a 2018 and 2019 yesterday. The 2018 had a poorly resprayed front and faulty hood latch. I think no small coincidence. Gave me suspicions even thought CarFax is clean. The 2019 was in much better condition but was disappointed it had PPF and could see it being undone at many of the seams. Could deal with removing it and exposing the original and likely pristine white paint. So I tried to make a deal on that one. Used car dealer that reminded me of a well run organized crime syndicate. They added 10k in fees; claimed the advertised listing price was for finance only and they need to add 3k back for a cash deal. Needless to say, the car would cost more than the 2022 I drove. No way...

I will say that I agree with the earlier gentlemen regarding my preconceived concern with the Alcantara interiors. Both were unexpectedly in great shape. Evidently the Alfa Alcantara is much better than Porsche's. No concerns there with earlier models.

Other cars that I have shortlisted are too far away for me to see and test. I am more convinced the 2022 I drove, and my gut-feeling with the owner, and no dealer fees (or organized crime syndicate), is the right car. I have dreamt of her since I drove it. She needs to be with me. I need to make love to her again.

I'd go for the 2022 if you can swing it, you'll get some warranty left for piece of mind, and you won't have to decarb the motor every XX k miles because of the port injection. Better interior, its a little more insulated, but if its not loud enough for you just get an exhaust. The dual mode exhaust is plenty loud though for a stock car imo and strikes the perfect balance.

Please do it. And if the 22 is in pickup range, thats better. What color btw?

I deeply regret not pulling the trigger on a 164S way back then. Now I am absolved.

I love my Quad, daily it, almost lost it in heavy rain today on the highway. No Audi or Mercedes or BMW is going to provide the same thrill.

Mine feels raw with some new sw update Italy told the dealer to install. I have lightened the ride feel with technicos from @John4C and a great brake setup from @Alfissimo. I am curious on the early models and a sense why they may handle better than my 21

Guys, did more searching and am more convinced the 2022 is priced right. In fact, almost too good. Similar year and mileage going 7k-10k more. I pulled the trigger. Hoping to go get her Saturday or Monday. I will start a new post introducing her.

One more question: noticed the 2018 and 2019 exhaust sound kicks in only in RACE mode. The 2022 will change the note in Dynamic mode also. Dynamic and RACE no difference I could tell. Am I missing something?

The Alfa's are so well insulated you can't hear the roar of the engine. Giulia's and certain BMWs allow you to turn on/off the artificial engine sound through a menu in the car's infotainment system or a scanning tool. My wife thought it was the engine until I turned it off. It's that speaker on the dash. It's like a hearing a fake orgasm. Although it would be funny if I could replace the fake engine sound with a fake orgasm sound during hard acceleration.

Purchase the MOPAR extended warranty. Search this forum to find information on who to purchase it from. Save $$
I brought the wife and newborn daughter home in an 86 Milano.
Traded it on a 91 164B. I turned it into a 164V with S cams, Speed Factory EPROM which added power and increased the rev range to 7400 rpm, center resonator delete with Stebro rear section. She sounded great, ran 3rd gear to over 100, hit high 150's several times. Ran to to over 200k, never had the heads or sump off. Got hit by a nasty hail storm. Looked like a golf ball and then the clear coat started peeling. Moved to an 01 BMW 530i which we ran to 306k miles, but that's another story.
