Dropped the QV at the Dealership today for a follow up on the CEL we got last week. I cleared it by the 3 quick restarts. (recommendation is to not do that because you can clear the codes) however, based on our description of what / when it occurred they ran the diagnostic and drumroll............Fuel Pump. BIG SHOCKER!. NP. They seem to have had a run on them because the usually have them in stock. So probably a 5 day wait. She is fine to drive so she is back on the road and we will bring her back when the part arrives. Apparently that is accessed by removing the rear seats so shouldn't be a big job when the part arrives not days to get to. I told them I was heading on a road trip next weekend and if they see any issues (Jerome AZ) and they said take it easy but shouldn't be a problem. Might throw a code but they may have it next week before the trip but if not it will be the following week. The bad part of the whole experience was looking at the other Giulia's and Stelvios. My hands down color combo since I have the Tri Coat Rosso (now happy to keep the red calipers) and very happy with that but I would hands down take the Montecarlo Blue with the Red Calipers not yellow. I love it on the Giulia and love it just as much on the Stelvio. I have to stay away from the dealerships. It just looks absolutely RICH. Wouldn't that be cool. The Rosso QV and a Montecarlo Stelvio. What a nice family that would make if I had a white car we would have a very patriotic family. So clearly not upset about the fuel pump issue I think we were glad they found an issue vs the arbitrary CEL light. Glad they caught it and no biggy the QV is driving just fine while we wait.
Here you go papa. You been arguing wit every opinion on this thread from
Beginning. You must really hate fuel Pumps and two foot driving

there is really no need to be a smartarse champ :)
at least we have progressed from page 2 where (apparently) ALL Giulias will have CELs

however, (again), where are these "misdiagnoses" of which you speak ?

no, champ, i just hate bullshit - and saying "every Giulia will get a CEL" and "American dealers are misdiagnosing error codes" - is simply - bullshit

cheers

:)

Hi, Offering my experience on the extreme, full-tilt end of the contiuum... My CEL, triggered at less than 2k miles on a car built last Oct, led to a currently undiagnosable engine problem. The really cool part of it, aside from getting a new engine, is that I saved 20 bucks on the code reader ;-)
Misdiagnosed or undiagnosed.

That’s a kill shot bloke

stick to the facts, and you wont need to pray to anyone :)

big difference between misdiagnosed and undiagnosed - have you found any examples of "American dealers misdiagnosing CEL"

i had one occurrence, it never came back after the S/W update - its not an ongoing problem
Well, then welcome to the "handful of elite Giulia driver's club" friend! /forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

As for the rest of you non-members: Don't worry, eventually ALL cars will throw a CEL, it's just a matter of time if you keep your car long enough.
You got me confused papa. Besides tell us about your CEL. Let’s hear it

Sorry Champ, i cant help you - youre turning this into some sort of ego thing - all i asked if whether you were making this stuff up - the answer(s) is (are) obvious ;-)

You jumped on every post on this thread. Look back on it. The ego is obviously you. No ones making it up. The people on this thread and forum are posting the CEL issues to get help from others who may have a similar situation. We have no need, reason or purpose to make it up...Champ

i was responding to the first sentence with something else, but then noticed you edited in the second one - nothing harsh intended either way, so no, you didnt get called negative for no reason
If you were talking to me here I'm not seeing where I edited any posts in this thread prior to your comment about it. PG, you were the only person here claiming someone said "all alfas will throw codes" I said all CARS will get a check engine light eventually if you keep it long enough - not AR cars specifically, and in my experience this is true. There is no car that will last forever without problems or check engine lights, everything breaks down because nothing is perfect. I don't get why this is so hard for you to accept. Maybe you just don't want to see it. And no, I'm not being negative, it's called being realistic. Just let it go bud, every problem thread here doesn't need you coming in to point out that "only a handful" of members here have had an issue. Your claim may or may not be true, but if you don't have actual statistics to back up your claims, it just sounds like your own personal bias.

all that contradicts what you said originally that you had NEVER had a car throw up a CEL whilst under warranty and specifically mentioned Alfa Romeo and being the reason for it being "an enthusiast brand"

It's funny, swapping stories of our check engine lights seems to be like a rite of passage around here. I don't remember the last time or if I have ever had a check engine light on a new car (or even a 2-3 year old car) still under warranty. Is this part of the reason why AR is an enthusiast centered brand? When mine came on I went home and hooked up the OBDII, read and cleared the code and had the knowledge to understand what it meant. Most people would probably just freak out if their new car was having such issues.

so i challenged you - not everyone has ongoing CEL problems, and no, we dont all swap stories - simples

i can accept that you meant all cars, (not all Alfa Romeo cars), but it seems to contradict that you reckon you NEVER had a car that did - so just go easy with the instructions on what i should or should not do, btw, that was days ago, why are you rehashing it ?

just so we are clear, champ ...

if you are going to make the claim that dealerships are misdiagnosing AND that there are LOTS of fuel pump issues or "I think almost every giulia 2.0 or quad has some issues." - then you will be challenged as well

however it was you who quoted and responded to my posts twice, three times before i even addressed you - i ignored you as simply having an opinion - you kept badgering,

I don’t care.

I don’t care.
about what? actual facts ?

to answer your question, i have had one CEL occurrence which could have been anything - i dont have an ongoing CEL issue, thankfully, and there are at least a dozen different error code scenarios that could throw up a CEL,

this thread is about a fuel pump - that also could be caused by anything - including contaminated fuel, and yes it would be interesting to see if this only affects N American release Giulias, but not for the reasons of "special" fuel pumps although that could also make sense that USA might need "special' fuel pumps due to special fuel mixes, EPA requirements, or even as simple as the wrong fuel octane being put in (generally speaking, not saying the OP did this as it has been diagnosed as the fuel pump)

sooooo, ... is it your fuel ? the only time i have ever had to replace a fuel pump was due to fuel contamination on a FORD

PG: It most certainly does not contradict what I said, I haven't always leased cars. There was a time when I drove them years past the warranty expiration and yes, at some point they all came on. For the past 7 years I have leased cars and not kept them longer than 39 months, none of those have ever given me a CEL while under warranty. Until the Giulia that is.

I received my first CEL “service electronic throttle” on my QV and I have an appointment This Friday 10/12 to get it looked at - Alfa Boston. I’ll keep posted on the outcome. They are a Lamborghini, Maserai, and Bentley dealer so I’m interested to see what loaner I get (prob Giulia Base). So the code went away after 3 starts but the most disheartening things was thinking I wasn’t going to be able to drive in Race mode for week if the code didn’t clear. And that’s when I knew what it felt like to not have the 2.9TT and I couldn’t do it. No offense to the base or TI or sport, but I’d be miserable even though I really enjoy driving the car in efficiency and use the heck out of adaptive cruse my 90mi commute when I do go in the office, but I drove close to 150 miles through the autumn whined backroads around central MA last weekend in race mode manual and it was the best therapy money can buy!

Not worth explaining it. Really isn’t.

So had my appointment with Alfa Boston about my CEL. First off they are top notch service. I’ve enjoyed both times I’ve been in. In this case the diagnosis was a diverter valve sticking and they couldn’t replicate. Light went out after 3 starts and hasn’t returned. If it does I’m to get the valve replaced.

UPDATE:
RO 58690
Intermittently faulty fuel pump. Found P080A Fault. Followed TSM 1800118 Replaced intermittently faulty fuel pump and o ring.

First i didn’t have a throttle error but will keep an eye on that since I have a mid 2017. Ours had a Check Engine. fixed was diagnosed quickly. So waited a few days for the part to come in and made my appointment at a convenient time (Monday or course in case something went wrong I didn’t want to leave it there for the weekend doing nothing) so brought the QV in at 8 and she was ready to go at 11:30. They offered me a Stelvio for a loaner and I said no just shuttle me over and I will pick up my other car. Probaby could have waited. In any case all is well and no nightmare or OMG stories. I did say wow that was quick. He said we have done a lot and they know what they are doing. I know they didn’t sell a lot of QVs in 2017 but they are fixing everyone else’s. He said about 50% they sold the rest are coming from elsewhere and it says a lot about this dealership. Hoping we are fortunate because they are 6 miles away. Also, Apparently the 2017 lot of QVs may have had a faulty design in the fuel pump at least on some. Who knows. In any case no drama and it went smooth. No lights coming home.

They have to access the fuel pump taking out the back seat and boy was I paranoid about the Carbon Fiber backs. They took good care and no problems. Bill Luke so far has been a winner and would have liked to have gotten the QV from them but they didn’t have the inventory. Now they have a ton of inventory to choose from and very competitive. Would be nice to get the next car local. Hope things continue to get better and better with AR on top of dealerships and knowledge. These guys are very good and they are a Alfa/Fiat and I am very happy with them so far. Seem to be pretty sharp guys.
