DIY Jack Stands

Finally got around to doing first brake flush (30k miles). Delayed in doing it because had no way of hold car up to remove tire without relying solely on my floor jack.

Did some research on this site, and the interwebs, and ended up making my own version of the wooden stands commonly referenced.

Worked extremely well; car was stable on the stands, and the stands themselves very solid.

(1) 15 3/4" 2x6 cross piecel; topped with 6" x 6" 22 gauge steel and a hockey puck
2 pair of 12" 2x4 glued and screwed together for legs

Legs bolted to cross piece with 3/8 all thread and bolts (both ends recessed); separated by loose 15 3/4" x 6" 16 gauge steel plate.

Place initial stand on top of floor jack; position under jack point and raise. Add second pair of 2x4s on top of 12" 4x6 and easy clearance to remove tire.

Total cost for four (4) such stands and additional leg pieces shown: Under $220, which is about the price of one (1) Rennstand, or a Jackpoint Jackstand.

Really well done - that's super useful for wrenching on these cars.

Are you able to fit it under the car at stock ride height, or are you driving up on a piece of wood to get it under initially? I considered building these as well but my QV is lowered on GTA springs and I can't even get a low profile floor jack underneath it without driving up on a block, no joke

I can get under at 3 of 4 Jackpoints; front passenger is about 2mm too low. Will have to drive up on spare piece of 2x6 for that one
