Since this subject never fails to entertain, the linked article to the website "Bob is the oil guy" should stir up some interesting discussion ;)

So it seems that 0w30 is falling out of favor to 5w30 in certain Stellantis brands

"New lubricant standards for Stellantis FPW9.55535/03"

LOL. The post do not make mention of the Alfa Romeo 2.0T engines with multi-air2. However, I can see 5w-30 being the oil of choice across the board in the Stellantis lineup.

However, I will stay with 0w-30 for now; unless a TSB comes out stating that my 2020 2.0T engine can use 5w-30.

Note: The engine in question that is switching to 5w-30 appears to be a French made diesel engine made by Puegeot and Citroen; not even close to the 2.0T used in the Giulia.

How about the 2024 Giulia Handbook? 👀

Understood :)

BUT Stellantis' change FPW9.55535/03 from 0w30 to 5w30 was due to Timing Chain Concerns, and the Giulia/Stelvio 2.0 both have have a timing chain.

And from @chrisz5z Post #23, the screen shot he included in his post, it looks like the 5w30 dictate is slowly trickling down through the Stellantis brands/Models.

It's crazy how the print edition is updated BEFORE the online edition, BUT early purchaser's of the Giulia/Stelvio saw the same un-even rollout of API Oil Grades SN, SN+, and current SP (as relates to 0w30). So I'm not too surprised to see this 5w30 first rollout with Model Year 2024 printed Owners Manual. ;)

Thanks for including the screenshot @chrisz5z 'cause yesterday I used my last 5.5 Qts of M1 AFE 0w30 and have 3,000 Miles/6 Months to procure motor oil.

I personally feel that Direct Injection is too hard on motor oil and since I work on my own car, choose to perform 3,000 mile M1 0w30 & 339 Mopar filter changes = $40

The current online versions of the User Manuals for all other MYs still specify 0-30w, so who knows? 🤷‍♂️

And to add to the confusion, 2024 Stelvio still shows 0-30w.
The 2024 Owners Manual also shows 0w30, but the 2024 Handbook shows 5w30.

Prob just a typo since the Handbook is something new that they released for 2024, basically a slimmed down owners manual...theres no handbook for other years.

I guess if a 2024 engine randomly blows up & the owner used 5w30, they could point to the handbook to justify a warranty claim.

I've actually contacted Alfa Romeo Customer Service about this conflict & they seemed confused.

Why not use this?
Supposedly it's GF-7 Ready.

“We want to exceed the API specifications and excel in all categories. Restore and Protect is already GF-7 capable, which is great,” he said.

This is what I'm going to use next oil change.

LOL. the hand book states 5w-30, but the 2024 owner's manual states 0w-30. Either way; I have a 2020 model so it matter not what the 2024 engine oil weight is. Sometimes minor changes are made to an engine over the service life that may or may not apply to older models. Therefore, I will not just assume what works for one model year applies to another.

The 2024 owner manual does not state 5w-30 engine oil, it states 0w-30 engine oil. The hand book is incorrect. I would go with the owner manual since the owner manual is what supplied with the car not the hand book.

The 5w-30 print in the book, and online, has been discussed thoroughly months ago. Multiple sources have confirmed that it is a typo and that all Alfa dealer guidelines still say 0w-30.

Looks like a good oil, but since it is marketed for trucks I doubt that it will have a 0w-30 weight version. Maybe a 5w-30 version for those owners who trust that oil weight in the 2.0T.

Marketed for trucks? What? Where does Valvoline say for trucks only?

I see nothing even hinting for trucks.

I actually read more about the new Valvoline oil since i posted that reply and should have edited my reply. I made the dreaded mistake of making an assumption that it was some truck based oil because of the article being posted about it in a truck fleet magazine in the link posted.

The oil is just a good quality general use oil for any engine that it is rated for.

However, it still do not have an 0w-30 version.

So I just changed the oil in the 2.0L Giulia to Valvoline Restore & Protect and all I can say it's the quietest I ever heard the Giulia idle. But still too soon to say.
I sure that the new Valvoline oil will do its job. My only concern is that the oil weight is not 0w-30 as required by the auto maker, but it may or may not make a difference.

My next oil change I will use the 0w-30 Triax oil as it seem to be a better oil for the turbo than the Mobil 1 AFE.

If you really want to stick to the exact stuff I wouldn't bother with the Mobil 1 oil, it's not that great, the Triax SRT 0W-30 looks to be really good and it's fully SP API certified.

I am sure that the Mobil 1 AFE 0w-30 oil is doing a good job protecting my engine during my short 4-5k mile oil change intervals, but it seems that the Triax 0w-30 oil will hold up better in the hot south where I live for better protection for the turbo.

Oil is cheap, but turbos are not. I am more interested in an engine oil designed for better protection over fuel economy. Triax 0w-30 seem like the better choice over the Mobil 1 AFE 0w-30 in that regard.
