What do you think will be the automotive related trends after this phase has passed?

I was really huge on the demise of bought/leased automobiles related to how the next big generation, millennials are staying in urban settings, ride-share-riding more, buying fewer cars.

But this Coronavirus (COVID19) episode may have either paused that trend or reversed it. I think. I see, at least in the near term, a trend of people moving away from high impact areas (such as NYC/urban centers) into semi-detached or detached suburban settings, buying cars, sharing less.

In all seriousness, (full disclosure I have a generally sarcastic attitude), with factories shut down, supply may be tight during the prime summer buying months. There may be initial incentives, but end of year 2020 models will be few. Then again, I could be completely wrong.

What I HOPE will happen is that, in the world of specialty/sports/exotic and vintage vehicles the trend will move away from collecting and towards using these cars. People will realize life is short and it's best to enjoy and use them rather than collect them and keep the mileage as low as possible.

The latest market indicators are that we may have either a U or a W recovery in the second half of the year and given the shortfall of cars being manufactured intersecting with pent up demand, supplies will be tight and discounts will gradually disappear.

Unknown of course is, it depends on how much deep in the gutter the economy is and if return of demand is slower than anticipated or not.

For many there will be no after the Corona, if some of the younger generation don't pay more attention to what the medical professionals say more seriously. Too many nonchalant people that believe they are invincible out there on the beaches, partying on large boats, playing sports and even having COVID-19 Quarantine parties. It's a crazy world we live in isn't it. We just all need to keep separated by 6 for a while, rather than be carried by 6.

Anyway, I'm going out for a ride.

Because of the pandemic here in the US one unexpected statistic is that automobile related fatalities were way down in 2020 however it is very shocking how many people died of coronavirus seconds after head on Collisions with tractor trailers

Traffic fatalities per mile driven were actually up in 2020. And the deaths from Covid19 are very real.
