'18 base sport model and I love it, except...... All of a sudden I have a 10" crack in my windshield that begins below the bottom of the windshield itself. No impact. Alfa will not warranty it even though I have only had it 29 days and have 437 miles. Part is on back order for 2 weeks. If a brand new car part is on back order, sounds like they are going through them quickly. Seems like a defective item requiring a recall.
Anyone else have issues?

Glass doesn't break by itself. Either there was pre delivery damage (definitely possible) or something hit it that you didn't notice (possible but less likely).

But glass does break in response to a faulty installation.

The O.P. should try Alfa Cares to see if he can get and second opinion regarding warranty coverage.

Sounds like a stress fracture. It maybe hard to determine the cause. However one person with a cracked windshield is not grounds for a recall. Sounds like a one off since I haven’t heard of a lot of Giulia owners having the same issue. Since you have only had the car for a month hopefully you can sort something out with Alfa.

The way the dealer and I figured if my MINI windshield crack was stress or impact was to gently run a ballpoint pen along the length of the crack. It “dragged” a bit just entering the black edge of the glass, so we got a nice, bright flashlight and found a small impact point. It sucked, but it was clearly NOT a stress crack. I think checking this way, followed by a request for a regional representative to review the denial (if you find no impact point) is the way to go. AlfaRomeoCares is another option to pursue.

I had a small rock hit mine and stared to star/spread almost immediately. I chose a place to repair and they ordered a windshield using my VIN#. Took 3 weeks for my dealer to get the part. They unboxed it before starting only to find it is THE WRONG ONE. How does this happen?? They had my VIN. They sent one with the forward crash detection cut-out (which I don't have). So, now the cracks are completely across and inspection ran out in June (will not pass). What a cluster. Sometimes it seems as if the dealer service/parts departments forget they sell Alphas.

Yup, this parts and warranty thing is not going away. I got the same reaction about my steering wheel, but, luckily, an upholstery guy was able to fix it easily. Also glass can be covered under comprehensive. I think that would be useful in this situation.

I would not complain about time to get windshield. My 2014 Boxster S took 4 weeks.. and cost me after insurance 800

OK.....I totally agree.....I now have three cracks in my windshield from flying minor pebbles. There is no way windshields crack this easily. I drove this road continuously with my Camry SE and the windshield never ever cracked. A simple little rock and it creates a crack.

I convinced now...as it happened today driving on I-85 to wards Durham. I'm fed up.

There is an issue with the windshields on the Guila's I'm totally convinced. I've had many cars over the years but nothing like this.

I believe there is a defect and the windshield must not meet the SAE specs. Pilkington is the manufacturer of the windshield. I mentioned this to the deals on my 10K free maintenance and they don't seem to care.

I want more feedback from others as I really think this is a serious defect and recall. I will take action against Alfa and render a consumer complaint. I will also call the dealership to make a claim. Please reach out to me at [email protected] if you have experienced the same. Alfa coming back to America better not let it slip again. Another issues at times I close the mirrors to go in the garage, and upon driving realize they are still shut, well in motion you cannot open up the mirrors. I mentioned this to the dealership. They said they could not recreate it. I told service manager get in the **** card I'll show you. Bang, wow it is true. Yes, so report it and tell them to rewrite the SW code logic. It's like talking to idiots at the dealerships. If this continues they will get back my lease and never see me again.

I drive the same highways. Within the first 3 months of Ownership of my Mini I got 3 chips. Sealed them and 6 years later I have little spider cracks that pass inspection and insurance won’t replace.

Now I have the QV flying down the highway faster than I have ever driven and not one chip YET. In AZ, all insurers must provide glass coverage without deductible. We get rock chips all the time. We heard something hit our windshield hard. Got out and looked at the next stop and didn’t create a noticeable chip. So not sure it really is the glass. It will be an easy investigation and if it makes you feel better file it. I haven’t seen this issue come up yet. There have been some windshield replacements but none that have claimed defective glass that I remember.

Good luck though. Never hurts to investigate on your own as well. There will need to be a lot of claims or injuries by the time the NHTSA completes an investigation.

I had two cracks in 800 miles from minor strikes but from objects too small to see and a light sounding tap not a whopping smack as in a windstorm. I agree with Fragnito the glass is not as strong as on other brands. This thread has been discussed at least twice already. Statistics will tell but already I think the anecdotes say the glass is not good....

18K and no cracks, but the glass looks like 50k lots of small chips. To me I think the glass is soft.

Never had a car's glass pit so bad, I do allot of highway driving to visit grand-kids and try to stay away from trucks. By 50k most likely will need new windshield for visibility in sunlight.

Welcome to "new" glass. Just like new paint the EPA required the mix to change about five years ago. It's still just as strong from a safety perspective but pits much more easily.
That I do notice. I thought it was lint ) Eventually it could become unsightly when the sun hits but oh well.
