Twice this week while on the Forum I have gotten a message that says my Mac has been infected with a virus and I should click on a scan button to get rid of it. Has anyone else got this? When I exit and perform my own scan I am clean.

i get funny popups on some porn sites, sorry i meant pawn sites,( i like to buy and sell stuff), with all sorts of warnings, i just ignore them, clear my cache for that session and am good to go for another buy and sell session

just dont click it!!!

whatever you do do not click on any pop up window, not even if it is from Angelina Jolie saying she is just around the corner waiting in a car ... its fake!!! there never was a car ... i mean, ...who would be stupid enough to believe Angelina Jolie would be sitting in a car just around the corner ... pppfft ...

dont click anything mate ;-)

Next time it happens I'll take a photo of it and post it.

This is because some other BS has been installed on your PC from other websites more than likely and it's really a coincidence thing. Run your PC through a virus check, malware bytes, and check to see if anything suspicious was installed recently. Once in a blue moon, I don't pay attention to what the popup was and wonder if i truly pressed the real 'X' to close it or a trap.

This is something else. Not a virus warning or anything to do with ads.

The newest version of iOs for ipads includes this new warning when you are on a site that does not use HTTPS, also known as a SSL Certification. This is a security feature that protects users from a MIM attack, or "Man in the Middle", when someone intercepts what you are typing, as you type it. As pretty much everything typed here is going to a public forum that can be read by anyone anyways, and we have zero eCommerce going on, it wasn't included when the site was initially set up and has been more of a "wish list" item.

However, browsers have been pushing for more sites to start using HTTPS, including Google who is going to start giving those sites that use the cert preferential treatment when it comes to Searches. As a result, this has been moved higher up the "Wish List" and we're hoping to roll it out in the near future. Can't give an official ETA I'm afraid.

Bottom line is: the site is as secure as it's ever been, and as long as you aren't typing in your bank info here you should be fine

I've been getting a lot of this lately too. So does my wife on her laptop. We don't visit the same sites and we don't necessarily use the same browser. I use Mozilla and Chrome.

I close the browser without responding to the hijack. Then I run a few maintenance programs and restart my laptop. To be a bit more specific, I run:
- The Windows disc cleanup which removes temp files.
- Glary Utilities which checks for and repairs System Registry errors, temp files and a few other things.
- HitmanPro which checks for and removes known unsafe cookies with upsetting the known safe cookies.

- I check for and update: System files, and other program files once a week. There's usually enough updates waiting to warrant this. The primary thing that all these updates are doing is attempting to close yet anther exploit of vulnerability. Glary Utilities can do most of this check for me and show a list.

Yes, I do a virus scan from time to time and always come up clean. No real surprise there as Browser Hijacking is seldom a Virus.

Mac, using Safari. I ran Malwarebytes both times and I was clean.

Yup, never click it. In fact some ransomware attacks can be defeated this way too. Just kill it via crtl alt del or the red x. Clear your cash and keep security op to date.

I believe these can come in through the ads that a site displays. The ads are usually sourced form elsewhere and are not controlled by the site itself and are randomly rotated in. The company that provides the ad rotation is apparently shady.

An ad blocker will usually prevent these kind of things.
