My Giulia is at its 1,000-mile mark and all had gone well until this warning: ``Stop Start Unavailable. Service Engine''
The dealer's service manager said he'd need at least two hours next week to diagnose the problem, but I can drive the car until then.
Anyone else have the same start-stop issue and what was the cause?

I have. Your hood may not be fully closed. Open your Hood and snap it back shut and start your car to see if it clears it.

And remember, it doesn't latch in the middle, it has two latches, one on each side so you need to make sure they are both latched.

Exactly this. This was my issue as to why i got the error in the first place. One of the two hooks was not fully latched but the car did not give me any hood open warning signs but it gave me an error with the start stop system. once I closed the hood correctly (both sides fully latched) the issue went away.

Tried. Both sides fully latched, but still getting the warning.

I got the same exact error last week, I had to take it into the dealer for a software update. I'll have to check the service sheet to see which updated they performed. I was able to drive the car with errors but was unable to do the following, (Remote start, DNA, auto stop)

Please share details of the service sheet. It could save me and the service manager some time. I also was told it was OK to drive the car until my appointment next week.

Your battery is probably low on charge and the system is protecting it from being completely drained. Charge it or take it for a long drive and you will probably get rid of the error message.

Reviewed the service sheet and the tech did not specify exactly what update he performed.

I've had the same situation - my unavailable light comes and goes every few days. I thought it might have something to do with the heat, but then it still did it one morning when it was still in the 70's. I called the alfaromeo service number to ask about it and while very nice, the lady was not very helpful at finding a solution. She stated I did not need any software updates. On an unrelated issue, I had popped the hood but still continue to get the warning every few days. How do I ensure both hood latches are secure? I will check this a second time to be sure.

I have a Competition Ti.

If you look at the hood lines you can tell if one side is not closed all the way. There will a slight gap, the best way is to just lightly push downwards on both sides of the hood just above the headlights. You may also try popping the hood up and closing it again. I know I drove entire day not realizing that my hood was not closed all the way and the light was on. As soon as I realized the hood was not fully closed/latched it went away.

Thanks MakeitRain - I noticed a shake in my hood while I was on the interstate the other day - and remember my boyfriend had popped the hood to show the engine to a buddy of his. I had all kinds of anxiety until I could get to a spot where I could get my hood shut securely! HA. But I am going to double check it to make sure both sides appear latched.

I had this happen after getting my car washed (hand wash) the other day. Not sure if they sprayed water and hit a sensor or they bumped into the hood latch while cleaning the inside. Open and closed the hood and it went away (for now lol).

I had the same issue 3 weeks ago. Took it to dealer and they diagnosed it as a false positive. The dealer confirmed that AR was aware of the issue but that they did not yet have a solution to fix it. Maybe they do now.

Just happened again to me. This time out of random. Tried opening and closing the hood multiple times like last time and nothing. Just in time for my 1000 mile round trip to Tail of the Dragon later this week
