Shock exploded; part isn't available

Funny noise from right rear every time I went over uneven road. Turns out all of the oil has left the shock. Dealer says the part is $1500 (the $300 for labor, then labor for alignment), is backordered, and there's one in the United States (that's spoken for, I guess) and there's no way to know how long it will take without committing to ordering it.

Did you check with Jason at @Alfissimo ?
If it's not under warranty buy one from a salvage yard and put it in yourself, it's a fairly easy job.
Save yourself over $1500

Was there noticeable oil on the outside of the shock? Otherwise it seems difficult to determine if the shock has leaked its oil. At least the rear shocks are relatively easy to R&R.
Maybe also try different dealer? There are plenty in NY, especially within an hour of NYC

Assuming Adaptive Shock? $1500 is very high. Email me, with VIN and I will see what I can do.

There will be evidence of leakage. Pics below are of a friends QV I was working on and saw the oil inside the fender well and than looked at shock and saw evidence of leakage there as well. He took it to the dealer and got it covered under warranty.

OK, but sense my wheel wells tend to get caked with dirt I am in the habit of hosing out that area when I wash the car. Is there some other way to tell?

I have had a horrible screeching noise from the suspension for quite a while now. It only seems to happen when the car is cold when I first head out on my dirt driveway.

Critter?
No. Sounds like a bearing galling, but I can imagine that a dry rubber oil seal could make such a noise.

Have you pulled the wheel off to take a look? I don’t think hosing down would remove the leaking shock fluid. At least not on the spring or body itself. The fluid is fairly viscous.

Yes, I have changed brake pads, twice and I have even had the front shocks out to change springs (long story). This has been going on for quite a while. It has been suggested that my antisway bar links are the source of the noise.
