Reattaching the rear view mirror

12127 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Darnit
Well I took the trim off around my rear view mirror to install a radar detector, and the entire mirror popped off. I barely even touched it, so I figured it would be a piece of cake to pop back on. Nope. I'm guessing that clip is supposed to pop over the hex shaped base there, but no dice. I'm a young, strong, warm blooded male and I'm putting my whole body into pushing this clip back on and it won't pop on. Anyone had to do this? Any tips? I'll feel like such a moron if I have to drive an hour to the dealership like this so they can do it for me.

You need to index pin 1c on slot 1d, and then rotate the assembly into its correct position.

It's the same attaching system used by BMW:

Great info...like anything else in life....disassembly is much easier than re-assembly !!!

Good luck :wink2:

Literally verbatim to what I was going to say, but you beat me to the punch.

THANKS MACGEEK for always looking out for us!
It took me literally 3 seconds to pop it back on with @MacGeek 's instructions. Thank you!

thread of the year so far. bgorilla shines the "mac light" in city horizon...just moments later mac swoops in to save the day!! boom!!!
Great work guys. But in this arctic cold in the northeast these past couple weeks, be careful with the plastic and glass! Use a hair dryer or heat gun if you are near or below freezing.
Did you have success in getting the detector working?

Nope, snapped off the little flat pin connector trying to shove it into a wire harness. I ordered a different brand, I'll try again when it gets here.

I am not the only one ahah
This just happened to me today coming back from IKEA. Snapped the mirror right off. Anyways it was easy to reinstall. I used the instructions in this thread and also responded to my own thread here:
