I don't use these oils. I do not use Mobil 1 any longer for anything. Pennzoil I have never used. Not in any Alfa engine I have ever had. I only use Factory Selenia Digitek 0W-30 and Motul in my Alfa engines. I also have Ravenol oils which meet the specs. Honestly, too much worry about this and that, having everything line up or they will void the warranty. In all reality, they will never check your oil, even under a failed engine. I have seen a few failed engines, they replace it and move on.

The cling ratio of Motul due to its organic nature of its base petroleum is far superior than any other oil on the market hence reducing dry startup which Mobil1 one is known to be terrible at and equally due to its consistency under load Motul is more stable under load induced heat transfer. The lichen molecules in the oil link better and tighter to create a better field bearer between bearing surfaces. This is why I have used this for years in all my cars, even non-alfa. While others over the years have had failed bearings or piston rings due to using Mobil 1 or Castrol, my engines have all gone on strong. An old 164S of mine just sold in WA, this is an engine I used Motul in. 290K+ miles on it, still running perfectly says the new owner.

Anyway I will always offer Selenia if you want Factory oils. Not Pennzoil or Mobil. Alfa cannot and will not void your warranty using the factory oil that came in the car new. Available for 2.0L and 2.9L (early and late)

SAE 0W-30,ACEA C2,FIAT 9.55535-GS1 CONTRACTUAL TECHNICAL REFERENCE N°F020.B12

Bare in mind, they do not use LSPI (SN PLUS) oils in Europe for Alfa. It's the Above oil. ACEA is coming out soon with an equivalent SN PLUS oil category but Alfa has not changed spec on engines around teh world, except in US.

Motul.

ACEA C2
API PERFORMANCES SN
FIAT 9.55535-GS1 / DS1

I also carry a 5W-30 SN PLUS Motul oil (don't get hung up on the 0W vs. 5W, it' still 30 weight, carries SN PLUS is is better oil in general to the Mobil 1 and Pennzoil

RECOMMENDATIONS
API SN PLUS ; ILSAC GF-5
GM dexos1TM GEN2 under n° D10577HI011

Also have the Ravenol- Made in Germany

  • FIAT 9.55535-DS1/GS1
and

  • API SN Plus
  • ILSAC GF-5

I use nothing but Motul in my motorcycles...its a great oil and is ester based ..at least their bike oils are

They are Ester based for 300V oils which they have a 5W-30 oil made for direct injection. The others are 100% synthetic ester, PAO Group IV/V synthetic base.

I have used Motul Eco clean in my 2.0 and it's probably the only fully and truly synthetic oil. It's far superior to anything else. In Germany only Motul is allowed to be labelled fully synthetic. Shell, Mobil, Castrol etc. That are labelled fully synthetic in the UK are not allowed to carry the same label in Germany.

Exactly right. Labelling in US is not correct. 100% does not mean 100%. They can label it 100% synthetic if the base oil is but the additive packages do not have to be. So Mobil 1 claiming it's 100% synthetic is false. So that 100% synthetic base oil may be only 50-75% of the oil at most.

Even Selenia is not 100% synthetic. The dealer filed Selenia this time at 3rd service (free) and I can tell the engine idles a little rougher compared to Motul I had before.

No it's not. But the thing with Selenia is they don't even claim to be. They state: 'fully" Synthetic. not 100%. Still a great oil over Mobil 1 or Pennzoil etc...

I just did my own oil change and used the Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0W-30, not realizing there was some kind of new spec to use SN Plus. I hope it's okay. But now that I read some of this thread, I went looking, and found this: AmazonBasics High Mileage Motor Oil, Full Synthetic, SN Plus, dexos1-Gen2, 5W-30. Any thoughts on this offering? It's certainly much cheaper than the Pennzoil Euro at $10/qt.

The manual states 0w30, snplus, and ms13340 are te three requirements. Then an addendum from Chrysler on usa 2.0t engines states 5w30 is fine as long as its sn plus and ms13340. The mopar oil meets all 3. The regular pp meets snplus and ms13340.

It will be fine.

What year car? Either way you will be fine. 0W-30 SNPLUS or the 5W-30 SN PLUS. You can really still use the old oil too, they cannot deny a warranty for example when they do not advice customers of this change in oil. Plus 2017/2018 manuals state SN oil. ONLY 2019 show SN PLUS.

Thanks very much. I have a 2017, so I think I'm okay. I guess for the next time I do an oil change, I'll look for the Mopar Max Pro that meets all three requirements. Now, resetting the "Scheduled Maintenance Expired" screen on the Infotainment is a whole other discussion. I read several threads regarding this topic and it SEEMS only with buying an interface and computer program, can it be reset.

I run 5/30 in mine but Im not aware of any addendum from Chrysler that states its OK to use 5/30 in the Giulia... do you happen to know where you saw that?

You are fine. Only 2019 has SN PLUS in manual. If you were not advised with a letter then all you can go by is the owners manual.

So far as I can determine, buying an interface module and the MultiECUscan software is the way to reset the maintenance and oil reminders. I have both. It's a little klutzy, but it works.
