If they are thinking about making Alfa a more competitive brand, FCA will most likely base their decision on how well the 2016 Giulia is received by the general public and most importantly, how well it sells.

no thats not what I meant. If they were to run the Giulia in DTM it would allow them to benchmark themselves against Audi, BMW and Mercedes on their own turf. DTM is also now aligning with Japanese Super GT so Alfa would also get the chance to play with the NSX, GT-R and RC-F GT cars...
