In a nutshell, I had my front tires replaced at a local shop. It seemed to go fine. However, shortly afterward I began to notice some strange noises when I backed out of the garage and only when I cranked the wheel fully to the right. It almost sounded as though the wheel was hitting something. It was minor so I didn't look too deeply into it. After a while, I finally had the opportunity to look in the wheel well and noticed that there's a bulge of about an inch in the black/grey material that surrounds the tire, and on the side where the noise was coming from. I tried pushing it back in but it didn't move -- there seems to be something behind that bulge which might have caused the bulge in the first place. The bulge is large enough that it would definitely hit the tire if the wheel was turned, so that's certainly the cause.

Also, I began to pick up on strange unevenness in the suspension. Typically, going over larger bumps on the highway, the car would go up and down evenly as the shocks absorbed the bumps. Now, it seems to rock side-to-side a little. It sways. It's not drastic, but I know the car and I feel a difference.

This got me thinking that maybe the bulge is related to the uneven suspension, and the only thing (that I'm aware of) that occured to the car was that tire change. Looking under the car I can see that the tire jack supports are right behind the front wheels. Maybe the installer did something while attempting to raise the car on the lift which caused this problem?

I'm no expert, but I'm hoping one of you will have some insight. Any thoughts are welcomed.

For comparison can you show a pic of the same spot on the other front wheel well? Presumably it isn't bulging.

I'm hoping it's something like that. And I would suspect as much, but the suspension problem has me concerned that it might be a larger issue.
Iirc the sway bar link actually attaches to the shock body. So I'm guessing broken link still or shock body disconnected from control arm.

Hello everyone, I am brand new here and just registered I bought a 2018 TI sport March 6 and noticed after a few days of driving this car also handles bumps and dips on the freeway and roadway like you described kind of like a “galloping motion” for lack of better terms? Car has 15,000 miles on it it does have one replacement newer tire in the rear maybe I should have my suspension checked out like the above suggest also? cosmetically the car is flawless not even a curbed wheel and clean Carfax... so not really sure what’s going on... i’m in the San Francisco Bay area about one hour east in the Walnut Creek area… Pleased to meet you all and stay healthy!

Ah I love Walnut Creek. My first apartment in CA (edit: circa 1995) was up there on Ygnacio/Montego Way. I have nothing constructive to suggest for your real problem.

Yes, walnut creek is getting ridiculously expensive trying to play catch-up with San Francisco… I actually try to avoid it these days… But back to the car, I kind of thought maybe it was just a handling characteristic but it does seem to bounce and recover from bumps at freeway speeds a little unevenly so not sure after reading this thread?? Anybody else experiencing these characteristics?

locally I have bumps I know/familiar ...close by freeway offramp‘s slow lanes etc. from my previous car handled it, which was German (vw cc r line and gti) and this car just takes the bumps differently doesn’t bounce evenly? So weird?
