Guys - I've looked high and low for this option, but for the life of me I cannot figure out a way to display the album's cover art when playing MP3 music files from a memory stick.

All that I can ever see is that goofy diagonal-fork-like USB symbol in the display, which I have highlighted below.

Does any one here know if there might be some sort of a secret switch to flip, so to enable this feature?

Thanks - DM

I use only FLAC files but mine shows the album art if I have it in the music folder....maybe the art is not the correct file type....I'm guessing it should be jpeg but I'm not really sure

Don’t know about memory sticks, but it does display artwork when using iPod music.

I copy and paste my iTunes media file to the USB so I guess the art is embedded there somewhere. Strangely most but not all album art appears. Of course when played from ipod the artwork is there, but as I stated on a recent post, voice controls and search functions work better from the memory stick.
PS All USB connections will give better sound than Bluetooth from iphones

Why not use Siri for voice and then use iPhone plugged in?

That would give you art and voice

1.My Siri is fiddly and unreliable in my 2017 build Giulia and often have to repeat several times. I have to speak to it through the phone which I am no longer legally allowed to touch here whilst driving. Can you use Siri through the Car?
2. I prefer a dedicated car player so I don't have to take phone out of pocket and plug in.
3. My $15 tiny USB works really well with minimal down side

I am however open to ideas as to how to get Siri to work better, and also suggestions as to why most but not all album art is displayed.

some of mine show up and some do not, and i burn from CD with the same Windows player software, i know you have to have the album art embedded in the MP3 file but i dont know why some show up and others dont

For me I press the voice command button on the steering wheel and that accesses Siri but I think that's because I'm using ACP which you wouldn't have with a 17 :(

My CD collection is so large that the only practical method to play tunes in a car is to rip selected CD's into MP3 format, and then copy these many music files onto a number of inexpensive high capacity memory sticks. I have a pair of such memory sticks plugged into the pair of USB ports in the center console, offering me the handy ability to quickly select between these sticks via the Alfa's rotary controller (if you look very closely at the picture which I uploaded in the first post, you can see that at the time I was reading from the "R to Z" directory stick).

So the proposed idea of reading music files wirelessly from one's phone, or whatever, won't work for me.

During my ripping of the CD's into MP3 files, using a common Window's based computer, the album artwork is clearly displayed. This artwork is also automatically displayed whenever I play music from these very same memory sticks through my Squeezebox Touch. So I am pretty certain that the artwork is present and has been embedded alongside the music files.

That's why it seems to me that the lack of dashboard artwork display might just be an Alfa-exclusive thing, and that there simply might be an options flip switch buried deep down in one of the Infotainment's menus that would enable this option to be selected. But so far, after much searching, no joy.

So - The question - does anyone else play MP3 files from a memory stick? And if so, is your artwork displayed?

Thanks - DM

I just checked. I used the techniques described here - How to Add Album Art to MP3 in Windows 10 - Appuals.com
to embed picture in file on Windows 10 (I used a random music MP3 and added a picture of my dog). I then opened iTunes and imported it (I believe iTunes is on the way out however). Then I just exported iTunes music folder to USB.Then it played in Giulia from the USB with picture.
Note: as Apple are notorious for wiping out whole music collections save your main copy elsewhere (I recently did an update and had to buy extra programmes to retrieve my over 1500 songs!)
Also make sure your memory stick is reasonably fast and modern, and to be on the safe side Alfa recommends under 64MB (although some report they can get away with more)

Siri doesn’t play well with a 2017 Giulia. The system simply won’t pass the audio back to Siri, so I can’t even do anything after waking Siri. Alfa’s technical team verified this was the case and shrugged when they were asked for a workaround,

I use a program called Tag&Rename to edit mp3s files and add cover art to files if they are missing.
Media Monkey is also a good program. My last car (Ford with Sync 2) was very particular about the album tags for it to show track data and image (including having to limit it to 500x500 pixels!), got to learn Media Monkey inside out as a result.

Since software upgrades I find Siri sort of works if I press the home button and speak to the iphone , but it is very erratic and laggy so I don't bother. I find that once you get used to it, the often criticised standard Alfa system is actually very intuitive.

Thanks for all of the above posts and thoughts!

Many of these have discussed a way which one can add album art to a MP3 file, which is useful reference information. However, as I noted earlier, when I use these same memory sticks in another (non-Alfa) media player, the album art is always displayed automatically. Based upon this, I'm pretty confident that the album art is already a part of my music files and is present on these memory sticks. And that the non-display of these art files when using the Alfa's media player is an Alfa thing instead of a music file thing.

So, I am now wondering, again, if there is merely a simple setting which is buried deep down in the Alfa's info screen options, and which allows these album art files to be displayed (or else, in my case, not to be displayed) whenever these MP3 files are accessed?

Based upon the image posted by "m&ms" in reply no. 13 of this thread (and, thank you for that!), I am now convinced that the Alfa does indeed have the capability of displaying these art.

Maybe it is a unique Aussie-market deal (since that appears to be where m&ms is from)?

Or maybe it relates to the software version that the car / player has?

Or maybe something else?

Thanks - DM
