After 16 months of ownership, and probably 50 hours of staring at my car from every angle imaginable, at least once a day, I noticed these two bumps showing ever so slightly on my hood. Has anybody else noticed this on their car? Clearly something attached to the bottom side of the hood for some reason, but thinking it shouldn’t show through to the outer surface. Definitely hard to see so expand the photo, maybe four or 5 inches from the forward edge of the hood you can see a bump with a line running down the center. There is another one in the same location on the driver side. I have never noticed this before. Wondering if I just have a bad hood or of this is on everybody’s hood

It looks like someone pushed the hood down and stretched the metal a bit. Never seen that before.
There is literally nothing under that area. They are over the radiator area. With the hood sound deadner in place there’s no way to know if there’s something attached to the underside of the hood or this is literally some sort of a stamping issue. There is an identical bulge on the driver side of the center of the hood in the exact same placement. Everything is symmetrical. The car is a 2021.

Do you have a pic? If it is a stamping issue they should replace under warranty.

I don’t have a pic of what the underside of the hood looks like without the pad on it. I haven’t had any time today to figure out how to get the pad clips off. Literally just discovered this this morning. I cannot believe that I never noticed this before.

I recently had my yearly maintenance done, and about 4 days later I noticed a ding in the middle of the hood that was about 6" in diameter (pushed in). Without the stripe line light, my PDR guy struggled to spot it because it was so shallow. It took only five minutes to repair the dent. On the tip of the hood, though, there were two bumps that resembled a hump. It's like leaving something under the hood while it was closed. Oddly, the entire year of owning a car I didn't notice it. I thought whoever worked on my car really messed it up. I told the PDR guy not to touch until I see another Giulia, and I did. I visited the dealership about five days ago, and much to my surprise, every Giulia (2021-2022) had it.

Looking at your pictures I believe your long lumps were caused in the forming process. As a tool and die maker for 30 plus years, I’ve seen and repaired a lot panel defects. Since the defect is in the same location and size as other owners, I would be willing to bet that it came from the factory like that. The die probably had excess oil pooling in that location, (brought into the die by the press belts on the bottom side of the aluminum sheet). The oil shape on the die surface is transferred during the forming process to the panel. I’m sure Alfa has many safety gates to stop defects from getting through, but when you make thousands in a row, some can and do get out.
Watch this video. At location 3:30, you can see the blank travel on the belts to the die. The video shows a different panel being produced, but the process is basically the same for other panels.

I actually watched factory production footage and that’s where I saw that the hood has apparently two braces running on diagonals from the front to the back of the hood. I think they must bond these braces to the hood at either end and that bonding process I feel is what causes those bumps.

It is also possible that there was excess glue applied to the inner panel in that area before the two panels were hemmed together. You would have to remove the insulation mat from the hood and see if there is anything in that area. I’m just curious, If you find that it came from the factory like that, are you going to have it repaired?

I just noticed this recently as well on my 21 hood. Had to take a few close looks at certain angles to see. Been driving the car for over a year and never noticed. Must of been from factory?

This is a Stelvio hood, thinking the Giulia hood is similar. Not sure about my suspicions of the inner structure. Was also wondering if the robot grabbing the outer hood from the press makes these bumps. Also not sure what to do about it with Alfa. Not really acceptable on a $45,000 plus car.

Do you want me to add what is not acceptable?! From a day one creaking driver's seat like an old spring bed, an AC fan bearing failed after a year, during sharp turns car is making like a wheel bearing failed noise, the car has a paint over spray allover, and possibly a paint chipping under the the headlights and the mirrors unfolding 4 out of 10 times when being folded manually. The car s only 7k and a year old.

What does your dealer say about the overspray? There shouldn't be any overspray on a new car unless it was damaged and repaired during transit. (That's more common than dealers would like you to know). Which NY dealer did you get it from?
