Before posting, I did some searches and found where others had asked about the high pitched noise that the Giulia makes after it’s parked. My car makes that noise, but the noise (or a different one) can also be heard in the cabin while driving. Has anyone else come across this? It’s faint, but it’s there. I usually just crank up some music so I can’t hear it, but I’m curious as to what might be causing it.

I’ve only had my Ti Sport Q4 for a month, but I am loving this car. Drives like a dream and it’s just so much fun. I’ve had no real issues...just a couple of annoyances like this. The other things I’ve run across are...

1. Steering wheel has developed a little squeak when turned. Only started happening for the last week.
2. Back deck (behind rear seats) can make a lot of noise when driving on less than stellar roads. I can press on it with my hand and it squeaks like crazy, so it’s probably just rubbing something underneath it’s not supposed to.
3. Hood latch is flaky. I can get it open if I give the hood a little pop, but I need to have it looked at.
4. Rattle in driver-side door. This was being caused by the window switch and connector underneath it. I popped that out, taped up a few things and stuffed it with foam. That pretty much fixed that issue.

Hoping to make an appointment with the dealer soon to have them take a look. Haven’t had a chance just yet. My 3 yr old takes all of my spare time ?

Hood latch and sqeaky steering wheel are all issue which have been addressed multiple times on this forum alone and are both easily fixed either by yourself or the dealer. Just search the forum and you'll see what I'm talking about. As for the noise in the rear deck and the other high pitched noise, it's hard to say without actually knowing exactly what's causing the noises. The high pitched squeak could be a bad belt or something. Good luck figuring it all out. Doesn't sound like anything should be too big of a deal.

Yes, definitely all small things. Nothing stopping me from driving around with a big grin on my face!

Also, I think I have the squeaky back deck taken care of now. Time will tell. I managed to wedge some thick foam underneath it and didn’t hear it squeak the rest of the day.

I think it might be the rear wheel drive shaft you are hearing. Its normal I believe - the Giulia isn't the best insulated from wind noise.

You can double-check by staying steady at highway speeds without accelerating and you'll hear it. Lift off the gas pedal/accelerator and let the car 'coast' (no cruise control), and you'll find the noise disappears.

I hear something similar as well, it is a bit high pitched and sounds like its coming from beneath the rear seats down the middle. You hear it on good, smooth highways where the road noise doesn't drown out this noise.

I'm no expert, just my theory ... and it matches observations. ;)

Interesting, I just picked up a 2018, and I have the exact same symptoms. Very faint noise from the rear at highway speeds. However it seems to disappear only when I accelerate. Coasting, and even braking doesn't alleviate the noise.

Hi Pipi,

We understand this noise is concerning. If you end up going into the dealer for an inspection, let us know. Our team is available via direct message and would be happy to help.

I have just the opposite (faint noise only when accelerating at highway speeds) and rather like it. Driveshaft or differential?

Both sound like differential noises to me.

I don't necessarily think there is a driveline problem. Plenty of race cars make a similar noise. Street cars, however, are expected to mask it, and apparently the Giulia doesn't do a good job.
I can live with it.

please shut your fan off and listen for the noise. I have a high pitched noise, usually with the AC on with the fan on medium. Took awhile to figure it out but yea, that was it.

Race cars are a completely different beast. Helical vs straight cut (dog tooth) gears is the difference between a race car and street car. Straight cut is way stronger but whines. There should be no whine coming from any of the gears in the transmission, transfer case, or differential.

Not sure if this is the same thing but I am also experience a whining sound from engine that is RPM dependent. Up until it got warmer my windows have always been up and can't hear it in cabin. But now driving around town with windows down engine noise seems very strange to me. No errors and car seems to drive fine. But the engine whines that gets louder with higher RPMs. Almost sound like a bad belt or something but I don't really know much about that stuff. Definitely different than other cars I have owned including many turbo engines. If this is how the Giulia sounds fine but doesn't seem quite normal. Do others hear this when windows down driving locally?

Hi cardsdoc,
We understand why this may be concerning. We suggest having your dealer inspect this concern if you have not done so already. We are also available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during that process.

I'm also experiencing the same thing. Just drove off the lot with a new 2020 TI Sport with less than 100 miles on it. When cruising (even low rpm) above 60/65 mph it's very noticeable even above medium volume music. King of irritating. Doesnt appear to be dependent on RPM.

Also when I turn the car on and rev I hear a high pitched whine that I did not hear on my 2017 base model lease. The dealer (Anaheim) thought maybe just some intake noise? But at higher highway speeds it's really unacceptably loud.

I've noticed that whistle when revving a 2019 loaner I had. Sounds like alternator whine coming through the stereo, if you know what that sounds like. My 2018 does not do it. I also get rear differential whine at about 67MPH.

With all the posts about this and that sound, sometimes my hearing loss makes for a less stressful drive. Which is why us old folks often drive with our turn signals blinking. NV
