Hey,
New Guilia base awd is exhibiting a front end vibration when braking from about 80...feels like a warped rotor but not as bad....anyone else have this issue? have about 350 miles in it..
Also have the start/stop not working issue...worst part is the remote start does not work when the car detects the error...have a service appointment next week...

It could just be uneven pad deposit on the rotors. Try keeping the brakes cool and apply long light pressure infrequently, without heating them, to clean the rotors. When they're clean of pad deposit they should squeak and squeal and basically feel horrible, but should look nice and silver. Then do the bed-in procedure again.

Yup, try that out. If you have an early VIN it may be bad rotors. Not visible but in the casting, crystalline, friction properties of the metal. Turning will not help. There have been a couple cases of it and getting a rotor from a different batch cured it. The folks from the thread figured it out. I credit my understanding of it to my Italian grandfather, who was a metallurgist for US Steel. Mille grazie Boppa! :D

Spoke too soon, I just heard the exact knocking noise present in the other thread....it went away for a bit, then came back...
Some of the rotor issues only occur when hot and operate normally up to that point. If a highway drive allowed for cooling in between it would explain the intermittent portion. Earlier today I walked another dealer having trouble with the etm update process through it step by step because quite frankly I believe in the fact that Alfa is bringing back how driving makes you feel versus how cooled seats make your tail end feel and I'd like to see that idea suceed.

This isn't directed at this comment but it's about like real housewives on the issue threads. My computer needs an update, my phone needs an update, drops calls, randomly closes apps and sometimes my nose decides to stop up, my head hurts and I forget to call someone back, but if my vehicle isn't utopia I'm going to characterize the brand as unreliable. When a phone update comes out we say oh good they fixed that whereas a car update comes out and people say why didn't they fix it before.... because they didn't know it was there.

Right! And on this issue, I think the pour of the metal may have been interrupted slightly or didn't go smoothly on that batch. This idea popped into my head after reflecting on an episode of "How it's Made: Super cars" and the Ferrari FF engine build this week (repeat). The pour of the block and heads is automated and the molds fill from below. The molten metal rises to the top and vents all kinds of gases and flames. If for some reason this did not execute at an even rate when the disc rotors were poured, the metal could have cooled unevenly, resulting in a different molecular(crystal) structure to the metal, giving it different frictional properties at different places in the rotor. Kind of like on a highway where two surfaces might be level and no bump is perceived, but the sound of the pavement on the tires is noticeably different. On these rotors, however, you can not see the difference, other than maybe a light change in hue or natural sheen modulation that looks normal and consistent to the naked eye.

To be fair, phones and pc's can be updated easily...this requires a trip to a dealer and a loaner car, that is 2.5 hours in driving time alone...cant remember the last time I had a problem serious enough to leave my car at the dealer, let alone two issues in the first week....this car has 350 miles on it...its not the norm..its a great car to drive, but its simply not up to par when it comes to reliability...They should have ensured that dealers update every car on the lot before they go out...

I have been so patient with Alfa, 27 days of ownership and 19 of them with the car in dealership. I can handle informat, remote start issues, but the brakes sound really bad. Drove in stop/go traffic and was continually thumping. They promise to fix the brakes this time.

I drove it, sold. Alfa got the electric steering right, 4cyl turbo amazing, and looks/style is PERFECTION! It was love at first sight, actually. Only the Jaguaf F Type is as sexy as the Alfa IMO.

I only look forward to enjoying this car for next couple of years. I hope Alfa takes care of my situation and would go for another Alfa in the house when My wife's lease is up next year.

See attached sheet on bedding in the rotors/pads. Regarding the remote start, if the car is not "asleep" when you double click the remote start the Giulia has a timer that will prevent it from working. So if it has been remotely unlocked, or disturbed the car it will not work: See this from page 132 of the Giulia manual: https://www.alfaromeousa.com/owners/owners-service-manual

How to use Remote Start

All of the following conditions must be

met before the engine will remote start:

Gear selector in PARK (P).

Doors closed.

Hood closed.

Trunk closed.

Hazard switch off.

Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not

pressed).

Battery at an acceptable charge level.

PANIC button not pushed.

System not disabled from previous

remote start event.

Vehicle alarm system indicator

flashing.

Ignition in the OFF mode (if equipped

with keyless ignition system).

Fuel level meets minimum

requirement.
