Over this last weekend, my Forward Collision Warning activated (happens quite often as most of us know). This time though I got a "Check Forward Collision System" message and a second that says the system is "Off".

Next day it is gone (didn't disappear on a restart, but did after leaving car off overnight), but then the warning gets activated again when someone pulls out in front of me. Warning comes on again and same automatic reset happens overnight.

One year service coming up in a few weeks so will see what they say....

Just in case, have you tried cleaning the sensor thoroughly?

My FCW goes inactive when it is raining hard or when a leaf gets stuck on it....interestingly enough it seems to disable when I am in long tunnels (like cheasapeake bay bridge tunnel or baltimore harbor tunnel), comes right back as soon as I exit the tunnel

I had the same issue and took it to the dealer. It was fixed with a software update. They did several updates so I am not sure which one resolved the issue but it is fixed and has worked perfectly since then.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like it might be an update issue. Interesting that it never happened until now though....just when it’s ready for a service. Quite thoughtful actually haha.

Lowflyer: thanks. It didn’t appear to be a surety or instructed sensor though.

Thank you Julie. I am booked for my first annual service at Miller Motor Cars in Stamford, CT on July 2nd. My service adviser doesn't think it's going to be a problem. I have great confidence in them but will let you know if there is an issue.

I experienced this warning light this evening while driving home in the rain and then it went away shortly after the rain stopped. Helpful to know others have experienced this and I will have mine checked for a software update next time I am at the dealer.

My forward collision unavailable light came on last night. The car was totally plastered with large bugs. Even my headlight pattern was messed up from the bugs. There are downsides to canyon carving, particularly if the canyon has a creek or river at the bottom. At least I was not riding a motorcycle.

You know you have found bug heaven when your windshield wipers turn on by themselves when it is dry.

We live down a 2 mile country road, both sides populated with research fields from the local Ag University. They routinely spray the fields with a slurry of cow or turkey **** from big pressure cannons. The bugs are so thick I can't ride my motorcycle at night in the summer. Fortunately we're not down wind.

On east coast we have cicadas....some 10 years ago I went full speed on bike into a cloud of those, massacre of biblical proportions
Cicadas range extends into the Midwest. The sound they make seems to fit lazy hot summer days well.

Fish flies can clog your radiator and cause traction control to activate.

Does everyone know what is the last thing that goes through a bug's mind when it hits your windshield?

Nothing that bad out west (certainly no flying bugs as big as cicadas), although I do remember having to stop at a Marysville gas station on one late night bike ride and attempt to squeegee off my helmet visor so that I could see where I was going.

We have grasshoppers and crickets here, which are in the same family as cicadas and locusts, certainly not to the same extent as farm country. But, we do have bugs, and plenty of them.

Do you remember the scene in Gumball Rally where Lapchik was pelted with bugs?
