The search for partner companies continues for Sergio Marchionne and FCA, and now the search has expanded to non-automotive companies.

"We have parallel conversations with many players who are outside the auto sector at the moment," Marchionne told Reuters.

He added: "We can't go into these discussions with a precise idea of what FCA wants. We're learning, just as they are learning. And the solution will be a shared solution and developed together with them, not developed by us alone."
Marchionne stopped short of naming names, but there is a general understanding that both Google and Apple are looking for an automotive partner to realize their autonomous car goals.

FCA has long been looking for a strategic parent having been shot down by GM, and refusing France's PSA due to that company's weakness in China.
