In celebration of the Alfa Romeo Giulia hitting UK dealership showroom floors, the automaker has set a new lap record at the Silverstone circuit.
It’s been 65 since Italian F1 World Champion Nino Farina lapped Silverstone in an Alfa Romeo 159 and recorded a time of 1:44. Now, the Giulia Quadrifoglio set another record with a lap time of 1:44.2 seconds.
Some may not find the achievement worthy of any notoriety, but there’s a twist to it. Their chosen driver set the record whilst driving the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio blindfolded. Every window, including the windshield, was covered in black vinyl so they was unable to see where they were going, only relying on verbal instructions from another driver following the Quadrifoglio.
Ed Morris, the youngest British driver to take on the Le Mans 24 hour, was behind the wheel. Words cannot describe the feeling of driving a 510hp, 600Nm Bi-Turbo V6 petrol engine vehicle down a track without visual cues. Morris first practiced on the smaller Stowe Circuit and he even managed to reach speeds of over 100 mph, before taking on the National Circuit.
For the rest of us, we can now test drive the Alfa Romeo Giulia lineup with uncovered windows at dealerships throughout the UK.
