Hi,

I would like to start a specific thread for the door panel or speaker grill rattle issue that several of you guys including me are having to better track and update this issue. One tip to easily reproduce the problem is to download any signal generator app from iTune or Google play store, connect your smart phone to your car and start finding the frequency.

I'll start,

Sound system: HK System
Location: front passenger lower speaker area
Status: the door rattles at exactly 80 Hz. I took it to the dealer, they took apart the door panel, re-tightened all the screws and put back everything. The sound did get better after that but not completely fix, there is definitely still some vibration here and there during music. I'll wait a bit before taking it in again.

I thought I was crazy! My car had been rattle-free then it went to the service dept for some work. Since I've had it back, the driver door rattles constantly, with or without the radio on. It drives me nuts. I find myself smacking the big speaker in the door, the dash, anything I can think of to get the rattling to stop. So far no luck.

Why I'm hesitant to have dealer work on my car; fixing (hopefully) one problem only to create another.

Water bottles placed in the rear door receptacles are rattletraps. Armrest cupholders will have to do.

I also have the HK system and the rattle started in the passenger side door but is now clearly audible in both doors. I don't have a frequency app but it is definitely at a certain frequency because it only happens on songs with deep base. Seems to be getting worse since both doors started doing it.

Hi All,

I'll try to make this short. I have the upgraded HK System. Car ordered Dec 2016, arrived April 2017. I too had rattling that I was not satisfied and testing numerous cars at the dealership only the HK systems were affected and mine seemed the worst. The dealer, including owner of the dealer agreed with me. After having the car for 3 days, trying to figure out what to do, a Star Case was opened. Alfa Romeo contacted me daily, they sent in an Engineer from out of town, who did all sorts of testing, using a stethoscope, frequency meters, opening all the panels and came to the conclusion that there were three spots on both front doors causing the issues at various frequencies.

1) Grill on the front door speakers.
2) Power window switch panel (they are held by metal clips)
3) The insulation in the door hitting against the indentation of outside door handle.

I believe they added insulation, worked on the clips and afterwards, everything was sturdier and the problem was fixed.

Nice. Anyone have a DIY to remove the door card yet? How many days did it take at the dealer to have it fixed? It should be under warranty after all. ;)

Hi Macfactor66,

Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership for further diagnosis I'd be happy to offer assistance if needed, just send us a PM with your VIN and let me know.

My May build HK Giulia is currently at the dealer getting the rattles fixed. There is an RRT for the dealer to follow. Also, they have an update to install as well. I will have the car back Tuesday. Loaner all weekend :) thank you lease mile saver.

Dead on the head with my analysis!

My Quadrifoglio developed rattles in both interior front door handles after a visit to the dealer... noticeable when playing "some" music (guess this is the frequency thing), but worst of all, very annoying when driving over less than perfect roads.

My Dash-area also rattles and cracks somewhere in the instrumentation area. It's maddening!!! Again... after the dealer had it for a series of software updates which included instrumentation and sound system updates.

I travel a lot (out of town 5 days per week), so it's hard to get it back to the dealer although I have made them aware.

Aside from the above... I am in love with Giulia!

I have to admit, AlfaRomeoCares is pretty impressive... both here and on Twitter.

I plan on taking Giulia back to my dealer (Fort Mill South Carolina) on October 16. I think that's the soonest I can do it.

The dealer thinks they can make some quick adjustments while I wait. I really don't think so.

If you're already in contact with my colleagues on Twitter, that's great! Please let either them or me know if we can open up a case for you.

Filled out a survey and Alfa asked me to take my car in for this exact problem, ipod not consistently connecting, and wipers not smooth. Of course it was a complete waste of time. They told me the problem couldn't be reproduced and no known other cases of it....

Alfa dealer was unable to fix the rattle. First issue is an inertia switch in the driver interior door handle. Alfa wont fix due it being a safety related fixture. They are waiting on next steps from an engineer. Waiting for an answer going on 30 days now.

The passenger side door had a rattle the dealer claimed to fix. They did not. Mid-bass frequencies are still making it rattle.

Now the rear driver side door is rattling over bumps.

21 payments to go.. 21 payments to go. 21...to go.

The most aggravating thing...when people get in your car and go "what is that rattle?" How embarrassing!

Anyone have a guide to removing the door cards? Workshop manual and so forth. I've had them off on my Miata and once you've done that, you realize a world of things you can work on. Window tracks, regulators, latches, wires, padding, foam - the stuff that disintegrates really quickly. I bet some of it has slipped or is out of alignment and not doing it's job.
