For those with a detector and the infrared windshield, can you comment on the effect that the infrared has on detection.

The QV I found in inventory didn't have the infrared, so I didn't have a choice, but I was told that my detector wouldn't work with infrared.

I have the IR windscreen on my Ti, which I presume is the same, and my Escort 9500ix seems to work the same as it did in my older cars. I wonder what they were talking about?

IR near visible light and Radar radio frequency are in hugely different vawelength range....IR filtering glass should have zero effect on radar wavelengths.....some glass with metalic foils like on Audi A8 or Benz S class will however not just obstruct radio waves but also increase radar target cross section of such car...

What about laser detection?

What about laser detection?
Laser detection could be a problem with IR glass since they are IR diode lasers however I have no experience with that.....since most IR lasers operate at one wavelength (because of the nature of materials in PN element of the diode) only the specs for glass would tell us if there is enough attenuation of the light to make detector ineffective (or of course experimentation with the cop pointing one at you-any volunteers?:)

Laser detection without laser jamming is fairly pointless, and jam heads need to be at the front of the car to be effective, so an IR windscreen is irrelevant in that case because jam heads also contain detector sensor.

That said, I’ve had two confirmed laser attack detections from behind the IR screen by my 9500ix, by which I mean I was given audible alert and able to see cop shooting laser. There aren’t too many laser falses, but point is laser detection is happening despite IR screen. Whether it affects sensitivity or accuracy I don’t know.

I have other laser protection.

Wish I would have known before getting my QV
