We’ve mostly been seeing videos and pictures of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, understandable since the range topping trim with 510 hp engine is what most people would like to own but not everyone can afford the $70,000 price tag. That’s why Alfa Romeo is coming out with a more attainable variant, the 2.2 Diesel Giulia. A YouTuber was able to get up close and personal with a diesel Giulia and he’s uploaded a walk-around for our enjoyment.
Even though the 2.2 diesel isn’t packing as much power as its QV brother, this trim is still sitting in the middle of the range and it’ll probably be the most common variant of the Giulia we’ll see roaming around the streets.
The engine will be available in two versions with different power ranges; there’s the 180 hp version with a maximum torque of up to 450 Nm or, shoppers can go for the less powerful 150 hp variant with a maximum torque of 380 Nm. Both variants can be paired with a manual six-speed gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
It may have less power but the interior is not lacking in quality and luxurious materials. Leather can be found throughout the interior and the front driver/passenger seats has the Alfa Romeo logos on the headrests. Small touches like the bolstered seats, flat bottomed steering wheel, start button on the steering wheel, wireless charging, etc, makes the Giulia feel like a premium car.
Unfortunately, he didn’t start the engine so we can’t hear the exhaust notes but he does start up the vehicle so that we may take a look at the infotainment system. Maybe we’ll hear the 2.2 Diesel Giulia in action soon.
